I have read Mark's book, The Rest of God: Restoring Your Soul by Restoring Sabbath, four times. This book has informed my understanding of Sabbath. Have you ever met someone and felt an instant connection with them?  That is how I felt when I met the women I’m talking with on today’s episode. I literally met them 3 days ago.  By the end of the evening, we had shared dinner together, prayed together, and went to a strip club together!  Stay tuned for a fascinating episode.Click Here for show notes.Click Here to watch on YouTube. Thanks for listening! One More Child is a nonprofit organization working on the front lines to push back the darkness in multiple areas.  One of the things they do is help rescue children from sex trafficking. When we first moved to Florida three years ago, I took a job with One More Child.  That’s where I met Christi Haag.  Her husband, Dr. Jerry Haag, is the president of One More Child.  Christi is a fearless trailblazer in Christian orphan care, humanitarian aid, and global ministry.  Christi has led missions around the world.  She has eaten scorpions in China, fed children in Africa, and ministered to sex-trafficked children in leper colonies in Southeast Asia.  Christi has been featured on TV, radio, and podcasts; in videos and magazines; and as a keynote speaker for events and conventions.  I appreciate Christi and the work she is doing alongside One More Child to make a difference in the lives of so many women, children, and families.  Today, we talk about those who have experienced sexual brokenness and shame in profound ways.  And how we can make a difference in the lives of those who have experienced trafficking. Yes, it’s a difficult conversation to hear.  But please stick around because it might make a difference in the life of someone you know.  Click here for show notes.Click here to watch this episode on YouTube. Thanks for listening! Today, I’m continuing my conversation with Stephanie Broersma.  If you missed last week’s episode, go ahead and go back and listen to that one first.  Stephanie shares with us her story of marital betrayal, and today we are going to talk about grief, shame, anger, and most importantly, how to hold onto hope when you find yourself in this kind of situation.  Click here for show notes. Thanks for listening! My guest today shares a story that is all too common for so many women.  It’s the story of discovering her husband’s marital betrayal.  This is part one of our conversation.  We talk about what does a woman do when she is in the early stages of her journey.  We talk about how God sustains women.  And what about the woman who decides to stay? If you or someone you know has walked through marital betrayal, would you be willing to share this episode with them?  I think Stephanie’s words will be a source of strength, comfort, and encouragement.   Click here for show notes. Thanks for listening! Have you ever seen that popular sign "She Believed She Could, So She Did"?  Does that message resonate with you, or do you ever wonder if it is really true?  Women are told that we can do and be whatever we want.  It is a message of female empowerment.  But what is female empowerment, and is it biblical?  Today I have a conversation with my friend and author Becky Beresford, who shares an important message about biblical, Christ-centered empowerment.  Click here for show notes. Thanks for listening! I so deeply respect Kristi McLelland and the work she does. She has written a Bible Study that is dear to my heart, Jesus and Women: In the First Century and Now. So, it might not surprise you that I did a little happy dance when she agreed to be on today’s podcast. If you’ve ever struggled to understand the Bible or felt intimidated by it, Kristi extends a beautiful invitation to the way we approach God’s Word. I know you’re going to love her as much as I do! How do you define love? I think love can be defined by presence.  That’s why my favorite name for Jesus, which we hear often during Advent but not very much at other times of the year, is "Immanuel” (God with us).  Christ coming to earth to dwell among us is the perfect embodiment of what love is. Today is our final Advent episode and the last episode of 2023.Resource mentioned:Countdown to Christmas: Unwrap the Christmas Story with Your Family in 15 Days by Lisa AppeloMore About Lisa:Lisa Appelo is a widow and mom to seven amazing children. I think the promise of God's peace is meant to be ours even when life is busy and hectic. When the kids are sick and the car breaks down. And especially during those times when we need it most - when we walk through grief and loss, face a  scary diagnosis, or are working through relational heartbreak. That is when the peace of god is most needed.  Resources: Nativity Garland created by Casey HiltyWait and Imagine Advent Prayer Journal by Lane M ArnoldEmail me for Sandy Cooper's Holiday To-Don't List: teresa@teresawhiting.comMore about Casey Hilty: Casey Hilty is a Christian speaker, artist, worship leader, and author of Her Children Arise: Passing a Legacy of Faith to the Next Generation.
