The Cattle Call Podcast, hosted by Curtis Ohlde will tell the story of America’s Pioneers in the Beef Cattle Industry past and current. Primarily focusing on those in Commercial Production and Seed-Stock Production, Curtis will go on a journey with podcast guest from the starting of the Ranch or Farm through the ups and downs to current operation status. In the United States Beef Cattle Production is relatively new compared to other parts of the world. Recording those 1st, 2nd or 3rd generation producers stories to share with others in our Industry and give light to those outside the Ag Community the hard work, struggles, the good and the bad that came along to get them to where they are today. The Cattle Call will start as a Bi-weekly podcast, in the event enough stories are banked the podcast may move to weekly. In addition as time goes the podcast may branch out into segments about the history of beef cattle production, beef breeds, stock shows that provide networking of ranchers and promotion, looking at the future of Beef Cattle Production Worldwide and other possible branches.

In this episode of The Cattle Call, host Curtis Ohlde sits down with owner of the Rennert Ranch Kristian Rennert.  We experienced a little connection issue during the  interview as well as Curtis battling a cold and voice being off.  Kristian shares the story of starting out as a kid living in Denver, getting exposed to cattle and ranching through family and through his college years.  Also, shares his involvement in the Tarentaise breed early on.  He then shares starting out with his first couple of jobs to being a Field Man for the American International Charolais Association and finding a new home in Elm Creek, Nebraska.  As time passed he purchased a few cows until meeting his wife, getting married and growing more.  He then transitioned into the feed sales side before taking the leap to go out on his own having bull sales and going into the 3rd year of a female sale.Kristian's wife Becky grew up in the Herford business in Illinois and was involved in working with various associations before working for DV Auctions and getting married.  Together they raise their son on the ranch as they build their Charolais Program.  December 3rd they will be having their 3rd female sale followed by annual bull sale in the spring.  For more information about the Rennert Ranch go to https://rennertranch.com/.The Cattle Call is a production of Cow Town Productions L.L.C. and may be reached at CowTownProductionsKC@outlook.com.

Today's Episode of The Cattle Call brings awareness to the Flint Hills of Kansas and one way of doing that is with Symphony in the Flint Hills.  The Cattle Call Host, Curtis Ohlde attends this years 18th annual Symphony in the Flint Hills and has the opportunity to interview Sandy Carlson the event manager and Mike Holder a retired County Extension Agent from  Chase & Morris County.  Symphony in the Flint Hills is more than just one event as there are various events throughout the year.  This years Signature Event was held June 10th at the Wade Pasture near Eskridge, Kansas.  Activities started at 2 o'clock with Presentations from various speakers, covered wagon rides, stories by local musicians and poets and dancing.  At sunset (6:30 pm) the Kansas City Symphony began playing along with vocals by Connie Dover.  The concert concluded with a roundup by local Cowboys & Cowgirls bringing the yearling stockers who called the pasture their summer home by the concert attendees.  For some, to watch the cattle rounded up and drove around the concert is their number one reasons for attending.  Dancing and other activities concluded the night.  Stargazing is one of the annual events however due to the overcast clouds was cancelled for this year.Prior to the concert, Curtis had the opportunity to sit by a couple from Oklahoma City.  He asked, how many years have you been coming and why do you come.  Their answer was this was just the second year and last year was cancelled early due to storms.  As to why they simply gestured with their hands scanning over the Flint Hills with the question; who would want to miss this.For more information on the Symphony in the Flint Hills.https://symphonyintheflinthills.org/For  article from Farm Talk News about Mike Holder's Service as a Kansas Extension Agent Serving Chase County.https://www.farmtalknews.com/news/chase-county-agent-mike-holder-retires-from-record-career-serving-kansas-extension/article_89c85144-2e61-11eb-9277-774e56640ef6.html
