But parents know the impact (and commitment) sports can have on their child's life.It can also be challenging for parents to strike this balance, but it's a worthwhile pursuit!And this belief in the power of sports and supporting families to navigate the demands of sport and life has united Forerunner Financial Coaching and KidSport Alberta to create The Sport Life Balance Podcast!We can't wait to share the fantastic stories, insights, and advice from our guests.Launching January 2023, stay tuned for more details and future episodes!

Colleen Carey is our guest for the second episode of Season 2 as we talk about her decades of experience working in sports administration and her journey with KidSport  in Alberta.Carey grew up involved in a variety of activities & sports including figure skating, softball, skiing and volleyball, before eventually graduating from the University of Alberta. Carey is currently leading KidSport Vulcan County chapter. Since 1999, KidSport Vulcan County has funded over 400 kids into a season of sport, distributing over $80,000 back into the local sport community through grants.Colleen shares unmatched perspective on what your "average" sport family might be  dealing with. Brant Edlund joins us as our guest for the first episode of Season 2 as we talk about his sports journey and work with one of KidSport's most established chapters in Alberta.Edlund grew up playing sports a variety of sports in a family of active people, before continuing  to play varsity tennis at the University of Calgary. Edlund is a firefighter working in Calgary.  Along with his wife, they are a dynamic duo volunteering their time with KidSport Okotoks that is helping drive change in their communities.Hear from Edlund on the importance of giving back to areas that interest you. Adrian Belcourt joins us for Episode 5 and we dive into family dynamics while pursuing sports. Adrian shares his journey in sports both personally and with his kids in sports, we talk about getting your kids into the same sports you played, coaching your own kids, and how Mom and Dad need to be on the same page when it comes to the sports journey.  Adrian grew up playing hockey, progressing to play at the Junior A level before transitioning into football where he played at the University of Calgary for 3 years. Having kids drew him back into hockey and reignited his passion for the sport. Adrian has coached youth hockey teams and taught power skating for many years and truly enjoyed the journey. Adrian and his wonderfully supportive wife Camille live in the Edmonton area and have 4 kids that they have supported through various competitive sports. Professionally, Adrian has had a very successful career in the financial service sector and is currently the managing director of Platinum Tree Financial, a holistic provider of risk management solutions.Thanks for listening to The Sport Life Balance podcast. Alec Card joins us for episode 4 of our first season!Alec shares his unique journey growing up through the minor hockey system, before taking a break and eventually finding his way back to the game later in life. He shares tips for parents looking to get their kids into hockey while adding perspective around what the sport system has become. Alec has deep ties to hockey in Edmonton - he was CCRHL Capital City Rec Hockey League Director from 2011 to 2018. He has also been a Hockey Edmonton coach, previous Director at Large, then Head Coach KC U18. In 2022 summer, he  stepped back from coaching, now most recently is back as Director of Elite Hockey Edmonton.
