Have you ever felt like your eating disorder symptoms flared up significantly during PMS? Join Amy in Entry 9 as she discusses her experience with PMS and birth control and how that impacted her eating disorder.  After getting her hormones measured only to discover her estrogen levels were abnormally high during PMS was she able to deduce that birth controls with high estrogen levels had extremely negative impacts on her. Once she took control of understanding her hormones as well as the phases of the menstrual cycle, she was able to come to a point of healing and give herself way more grace during that (sometimes insufferable) time of the month and she wants you to learn how to do the same!Follow the podcast on Instagram @theeatingdisorderdiariesFollow my recommendations from the episode:Hormone Horoscope Lite (links for both Google & Apple)Gabby Scheyen on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@GabbyScheyenGabby Scheyen on Instagram: @gabbyscheyIf you want someone to talk to or are interested in collaborating, email Amy at theeatingdisorderdiaries@gmail.com.Sign up to start your own podcast today and get a $20 credit with Buzzsprout (and support the show!) here: https://www.buzzsprout.com/?referrer_id=2092163

In the fifth entry of The Eating Disorder Diaries, Amy discusses her experiences with nearly 2 decades of therapy and how that has helped her heal from her eating disorder.  She talks about the cost of therapy, the frustration at not being able to find a therapist, and talks about some of the things she really has not jived with in sessions (like a therapist calling her manic or telling her that her PMS was just no big deal). In the second half of the first segment, Amy drills into EMDR and what that's looked like for her in sessions. She talks about the 8 phases of EMDR and applies personal experiences to each phase in her own personal sessions and discusses how processing her trauma and sexual assault has helped her heal her ED.You can follow the podcast on Instagram @theeatingdisorderdiariesIf you want someone to talk to or are interested in collaborating, email Amy at theeatingdisorderdiaries@gmail.com.The EMDR based articles cited in the show are found here:EMDR.comCenter for DiscoveryCleveland ClinicWork out with me and get your first class free! https://trufusion.com/ Sign up to start your own podcast today and get a $20 credit with Buzzsprout (and support the show!) here: https://www.buzzsprout.com/?referrer_id=2092163

In this sit-down interview, Amy and Cindy discuss how critical therapy can be to managing a more healthy life for yourself to how healing your trauma can help you heal your eating disorder. Cindy gives insights into EMDR, CBT, among other treatment methods, and touches on how therapy can and is becoming more accessible to wider audiences. They discuss how to best "break up" with a therapist you're not getting along with, to what therapy looks like for first-timers, to how critical and useful it can be to have therapy goals to get the most out of your sessions. You can follow the podcast on Instagram @theeatingdisorderdiariesIf you want someone to talk to or are interested in collaborating, email Amy at theeatingdisorderdiaries@gmail.com.The online services that connect therapy seekers with mental health care providers who accept insurance discussed in the episode are found here:HeadwaySondermindSign up to start your own podcast today and get a $20 credit with Buzzsprout (and support the show!) here: https://www.buzzsprout.com/?referrer_id=2092163
In the third entry of The Eating Disorder Diaries, Amy interviews her parents Chris and Cindy Goeckel to get their perspectives on what it was like to have a child with an eating disorder. They get into the details on how they found out Amy had bulimia, what they did to get her help, and what they wish they would have known and done differently in retrospect. Spoiler alert: Eating disorders are serious and oftentimes treatment for young teenagers is not adequate, like it was in Amy's case. Chris talks about his own struggles with his self image and how that impacted his daughters, and Amy wraps up the show by reflecting on how important it was for her to be able to confide in her parents about her eating disorder and past trauma to get to the point of recovery that she's in today.Follow the podcast on Instagram @theeatingdisorderdiariesIf you want someone to talk to or are interested in collaborating, email Amy at theeatingdisorderdiaries@gmail.com.Sign up to start your own podcast today and get a $20 credit with Buzzsprout (and support the show!) here: https://www.buzzsprout.com/?referrer_id=2092163
