Description

Work Wives Unscripted will likely be the most unhinged business podcast you’ve ever heard. You’ll come for the bits of wisdom and stay for the wildly unfiltered conversations, stories, and laughs. Hosted by Jill Coats of One Forty Films and Kathryn Majic of Blnk Films, these two best friends of 15 years and running unveil what it’s really like to be a solopreneur and small business owner. They’re just career-driven 30-somethings doing self-work live, showing us all that there’s a deeper sense of connection and camaraderie when you exploit your struggles and growing pains on the internet.

We’re so honored to welcome Bailey Ness to Work Wives Unscripted. Bailey is the founder of Nesscessity, a social media marketing agency, and if that's not enough, she's also the co-founder of Cooldown Running, a social run club and running apparel company. To say we were impressed by her is an understatement. Bailey is the epitome and a leading example of a “don’t overthink, just do” mindset. This mindset has truly catapulted her success to conquer anything she sets her sights on. While we open up a lot about the struggles that come with entrepreneurship and navigating what it’s really like owning a small business, this episode was a refreshing reminder that, maybe, just maybe, we’re making it harder than it has to be. Sitting down with Bailey was a breath of fresh air, leaving us incredibly inspired that it simply takes putting one foot right in front of the other to make sh*t happen. Oh, and thank G for Google. If you want to stay up to date with what Bailey is up to we’ve got you covered: Bailey’s Instagram Learn more about Nesscessity Instagram  Website Learn more about Cooldown Running Instagram Website
2024 is the year of making sh*t happen. Sometimes that comes with being completely delusional and going out on a whim to chase those lofty goals.  This is the behind-the-scenes, unfiltered story of the Halfdays Pitch (if you’re unfamiliar with it, check it out here). The three of us joined forces and decided to publicly pitch a female-owned ski brand called Halfdays and to our surprise, we got the co-founder's attention in 47 minutes.  Here at Work Wives, we aim to pull the veil behind it all, so while the pitch got some eyes on it, we wanted to invite you into the chaos that ensued and what it truly took to deliver the product we did. It was necessary to have our gal Ori on to tell the tale.  Excited to see where this takes us, thanks so much for being here! xx Check out Ori’s work: Instagram Keep in touch with us! We are so excited and honored to welcome Adam and Netta to Work Wives Unscripted. Coming from two entirely different backgrounds, life led them to each other in an incredibly unique, destined-to-be way after experiencing life-changing individual experiences (to say the least). Netta had just finished serving two years in the Israeli army, while Adam had just healed from a Craniotomy after his brain tumor diagnosis. This is a story that is so much greater than highlighting two inspiring entrepreneurs, it’s a story about your internal relationship with self, experiencing a drastic “wake-up” call, navigating grief, finding profound love when you least expect it, and building a life anew.  We could’ve talked to them for hours as there are SO many dynamics to this story, but we hope this episode serves as a reminder to design a life that honors your spirit and your needs, finding balance in chasing your dreams and investing in the people around you.  Adam is the founder of Umbrla Supply, a streetwear and home goods brand that donates a portion of its proceeds to brain tumor research.  Netta is the founder of her new brand, Ima Urban Wellness. She’s a Holistic Nutrition Professional and Yoga Instructor, combining mind, body, and spirit practices, on a mission to help you connect with your highest, and most whole self. She offers personalized programs focused on food alchemy, movement, or the entire 360 experience.  Check out Umbrla Supply: Website Instagram Check out Ima Urban Wellness: Website Instagram Thanks so much for joining us this week, see you soon! xx
You guys, we're shaking our heads at ourselves that it's been nearly a month since an episode dropped, maybe that's why we named the last one "God Help Us in 2024" because to put it bluntly, we've been busting our a$$es. But you know we always come through because we're here to offer you some hot tips from our favorite and very own beloved accountant, Ed. He swooped down and saved us like baby birds, tucked us under his wing, and now we soar into tax season making them as enjoyable of an experience as they can be! In other words, he's incredible. Join us this week as he answers all of the tax season questions that we all need to know but are too afraid to ask, including things like: When is it a good time to consider hiring an accountant?  How can people best prepare before hiring an accountant?  Covering all things considered legit business write-offs Explaining the difference between an LLC and an S-Corp Small business owner icks that Accountants hate Quarterly taxes, are they required? What triggers an IRS Audit? How can we lower our tax liability? And SO much more. Go make that money and feel blessed to pay taxes, because it means your business is profitable!!  EPISODE DISCLAIMER: Correction regarding the discussion about FAMLI. The cutoff before an employer has to match the .45% is 10 employees (the episode mentioned 5) SECURE is what is a 5-employee cutoff. For FAMLI, business owners have to take .45% out of each employee’s paycheck (as the employee’s contribution) and only have to add .45% as the employer contribution when they have 10 or more employees.
Happy New Year!! Even though we ended 2023 joking and also semi-crying about "failed" manifestations for the year, (quotations b/c we hate that word) we're just as delulu entering 2024 but with new tactics and fun revelations. Join us this week for tips when it comes to goal-setting, our new obsession with Human Design, and building a vision board. You also get a first-hand look at the Christmas miracle we accomplished all thanks to Santa's Hung Bros. 2024 is here and it's entirely up to us to make it a year where we look at ourselves in the mirror and say, "You fckn did it." If our podcast has sparked joy, brought you laughs, or even helped you feel less alone, reviews make our day and we would absolutely love to hear from you! Amazing resources talked about in the episode: Manifestation Babe's Vision Board Alchemy mini-course Interested in checking out Human Design? We love this app Love you all so much xx
Happy Holidays, our beloved Wives! Buckle up for the ride of this episode because it's packed with all of our favorite things that make this podcast what it is. To make it even better, it's CHRISTMAS. Join us for a good laugh, cry, a few minutes to pity ourselves, and then as always, end on a full circle moment with high notes of optimism and excitement for the new year. We break open our journals to read through and live react to all of the manifestations we wrote out for 2023. Although more manifestations didn't come through than those that did (lol) maybe it's a good lesson to not be too tied to "failure" and redirect the intention of a goal in the first place. Also, stay tuned for Santa's Hung Bros content on our Instagram. We love you all so much! Enjoy your holiday and we'll see you in 2024. *muah* Follow us: Instagram Also if you haven't yet and enjoy the podcast, it would mean so much to us if you left a rating!
Hi Honeys! Hope your holiday season is cheery and bright, we're excited to welcome our financial advisors, Chelsea and Kathleen to the pod. Let's be real, finances are hard, but they don't have to be! When we first met Chelsea and Kathleen, we spent nearly our entire first meeting at a networking event trying to understand just exactly what a financial advisor does, how they get paid, the benefit of working with one as a small business owner (or just in general), and if we were even qualified to be a client of theirs, lol. Finances are a subject that can't be avoided in business, and the topic doesn't have to be taboo. As we continue to grow as female solopreneurs, we're continuously striving to feel empowered by how we handle our money while navigating the road bumps of growth, better understanding where to invest our money, and the moves we can make now to set ourselves up better for the future. If you're interested in learning more about what Chelsea and Kathleen do or would like to work with them, feel free to reach out to us via email or DM and we can send their info along! Season 2 has started on a more serious note (in all the best ways) and this week we just wanted to let out some laughs. We start by talking about our podcast icks of ourselves which turns into an entire lesson by the master, Jill herself, teaching Katie the formula of just exactly how to tell a funny story. What is it about this soft skill that can turn you from a crowd-pleaser to a true crowd entertainer?! Idk stay tuned. Actually after recording we decided this is a good human skill to know and can elevate any social occasion. See you cuties next week!
Happy Thanksgiving, Wives! We're so thankful for you and excited to be back for Pt 2 with Henry Tieu of Henry's Diary. Last week we dove into his upbringing, and this week, we shift into talking about his career as an intimate elopement photographer. Join us as we talk about: Introversion as an elopement photographer Struggles with social media in showing up in ways that feel unnatural, while learning to pivot by leaning into your strengths Growth in business, hustle culture, and making tough decisions to pursue what is in alignment with you Seeking joy in all things life, and career The infamous game of would you rather These two episodes were packed full and we still feel like we could've talked to Henry for 10x longer. If you don't follow him already, be sure to check him out. Instagram Website P.S. We finally got our shit together with an Instagram Love you all, see you next week!
We're SO excited to welcome our first guest on the podcast, none other than Henry Tieu. As huge fans of his work before ever meeting him, we then had the honor to film his course, The Art of Adventure Weddings and Elopements with Maddie Mae of Adventure Instead. Over the course of that year filming with him, we fell in love with his spirit. He's an endless pit of wisdom, passion, and empathy and his spirit needs to be known by the wives. Join us as we talk about: Immigrating to America from Vietnam What his coming out experience was like His career as a nurse and how that planted the seed for his future as a world-renowned elopement photographer (which we'll dive fully into in part 2 next week) If you don't follow him already, be sure to check him out. SEASON 2 IS HERE BABY!! We’re back and trust us when we say, a whole lot’s changing. Also lol at us thinking that would be a quick 4-5 week break between seasons, because here we are just shy of 4 MONTHS LATER.We’ve had a lot of conversations over the past few months that have led us to take more action — pulling our dreams out of our asses and wasting no more time on making them a reality. In true Work Wives fashion, we’re bringing you in on all of it, spilling every ounce of vulnerability in this episode to lay out exactly where we’re at while outlining the risks we’re each taking to get there. As always, a good tea-spilling wouldn’t be complete without our embarrassing or ratchet stories and extensive Would You Rather’s. We missed you so much and are excited to be back. Giddy up bitches, this is gonna be one hell of a ride.xxJill and KatieP.S. We finally got our shit together and made a Work Wives Instagram, we heard you’ll suffer from severe fomo if you don’t participate over there. Doctor’s orders.

Hi ya cutie Wives! Jill and Katie went rogue this week and dove deep into the topic of solopreneurship. A catch-up was much needed, and of course, things got deep. They covered how they're currently navigating business guilt and being present in their relationships, which lead them to a bigger question:Is Solopreneurship sustainable? It still feels taboo to discuss sustainability as a solopreneur. It's something that once hitting the 5-year mark in both Jill and Katie's businesses, they've spent a lot of time working through. There are so many conversations regarding how to be a "successful" solopreneur, but how does one navigate growing that success into something bigger? So grab your drink of choice and join your ladies to talk about it. Feedback on the episode? Don't be afraid to slide into the DM's! Ily a milli. Jill: @onefortyfilmsKatie: @blnkfilms
WE MISSED YOU and have a lot to catch up on. You voted on the episode topic so here she is! Networking events are important, but no one talks about how awkward they are. Let's just say Jill and Katie are....on one this week. Katie expands on her trip to Amsterdam and Jill's been keeping a big ole secret that she's been holding close to her chest, literally. What better place to share the news than the pod? The Wives break down an episode-themed "Would You Rather?", share a few horror stories about previous networking events, and expand on ways to network that are far less painless. Can't forget to mention that Jill and Katie also shout out some beloved Wives and what they love about them! Is anyone interested in a WWU Networking Event? Listen in as Jill and Katie pitch how they would do it.  As always, thanks so much for being here. We love you dearly! P.S. Would You Rather take an interesting turn to come to the passionate conclusion that moths should no longer be inferior to butterflies, and THEN, a deep dive into comparison on social media addressing:What social media felt like when Jill and Katie started their businesses What social media feels like nowTips and tricks to say bye to a negative and self-sabotaging headspaceCurating your feed in a way that serves youSetting intentions behind the content you share"Wow-ing" Clients vs. PeersShowing up because you want to, not because you have toThe Internal vs External dilemma of creativityLet's just say it's bound to be relatable. Dive on into the pod-tub with your two favorite podcasters. Katie defends Jill at a pub, Jill's getting a pup, and the girls navigate the challenges of what it means to be unapologetically yourself.
Jill and Katie don't hold back this week with their "Would You Rather?" as they dig up a funny old story of one of their biggest fights. The Wives also give a good ole dose of their hybrid approach of equal parts tender and tough love as they discuss what it means to seize your own opportunities in your business. There are seasons in a business where we can get caught up in our heads wondering why customers aren't filling up our inboxes with inquiries. Jill and Katie break down their approaches of chasing after what you want while also doing a little book club action from "The Third Door" by Alex Banayan. Be sure to hang in until the end to listen to their breaking new hit, You Are More in Control Than You Think"Ily, Work Wives!Referenced in this episode:Jai Long's Podcast The Third DoorKathrin Zenkina's Podcast
