Description

Hey friend -  my name is Kyle Buchanan and although I talk nutrition and health for a living nowadays   - whether through talks, videos, or as a resident contributor on Canada's "The Morning Show", it was NOT that long ago that I was an anxious, drunken, closeted, self-doubty wreck. Being a grown up is tough, and messy - where we’re confident one day and anxiety-ridden the next. I don't like faking it. I DO however, like getting it all out in the open, laughing about it, and then exploring a few tools that can help us feel better if (and only if) we are in the mood. So whether it’s solo episodes or honest conversations with spectacular guests -this show is the blend of revelations, self-help, knowledge and gay magic that NO one asked for, but everyone needs. And I'm so glad you're here.

If this headline made you do a double take, you're not alone. We know that the nutrition world can be incredibly confusing, and frankly, incredibly annoying.Part of the reason I do this podcast is to vent about my frustrations about the industry, because sometimes it really is exhausting to see all of the contradictory information out there.  And it can leave us feeling like there’s not even a point in trying, which doesn’t serve us. Recently, a headline came out stating that intermittent fasting might be associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular death  . . . which is a very dramatic statement. So in today’s episode, I want us to eat a major grain of salt and really break this all down, so you feel equipped to come to your own conclusions. We're covering:what I did immediately when this article was sent to mewhat was the study that made this claim?  was it a published study? why are observational studies tricky? let's play devil's advocate . . . what could be a reason for this finding? why could intermittent fasting increase the risk of cardiovascular death? why it could be more important that ever to focus on this one macronutrient the takeawaytoday's feelgood thing Want to stay in the loop about upcoming announcements and ways in which we can work together? You know those days where you get sidetracked and swept away with anxiety, or self doubt or your brain starts going wild with the comparison game? It's those days where you just can't seem to get perspective, where you can't quite see it . . .  and you just want someone ELSE to tell you that it's all going to work out.    Today’s episode is for those days. For when I - and you (if you’re in the mood) - could use a few reminders to get our brains back on track. It’s a different sort of episode, but it’s one from the heart. We’re talking:people pleasingresentmentcomparisonthe biggest trick of growing up
If there’s a healing modality that can bring up some polarizing opinions… it’s homeopathy. Some say it’s incredibly effective (even where all else fails), some scoff it off as nothing but placebo. Others don’t understand what it is at all, or how to use it . . .So today- we’ve got an incredible expert on the show.  Rachel Roberts is the Chief Executive at the Homeopathy Research Institute, and she’s separating fact from fiction in today’s episode.Personally,  I’ve been using homeopathy  since I was a kid, and it’s something I continue to use today in conjunction in with other modalities (which is a big opinion I’ll get into in this episode).I believe it to be an incredibly useful tool in our toolbox, and for those who might not know what it is, or are feeling skeptical- today’s episode is definitely worth a listen. We're Covering: Rachel’s explanation of what homeopathy ishow she started as a major skeptic, and how that changed (*hint- the Royal Family played a part) not just placebo - what the evidence says known conditions that have more evidence Rachel’s opinion on “no side effects” when it comes to homeopathy (it’s not what you think!)challenges when it comes to homeopathic research homeopathy for agriculture and an alternative to pesticides damaging headlines Rachel’s feelgood thing About RachelRachel has a First-Class Honours degree in Biological Sciences specialising in Physiology from the University of Birmingham. If you have crappy sleeps, or are going through a stressful time, or are just feeling drained all day… OR all three… today’s episode is for you. We’re doing a brief overview of some *key* considerations for each, and how they’re all connected. We’re covering the cyclical relationship of sleep, stress & energy 2 Important S’s for sleepmy thoughts on melatonin pillow hack for a better nights sleepfree tool to manage stress and support vagal tone favourite adaptogens (but what to watched for!)key nutrient deficiency that can drain energy
It’s a sore sore feeling when nerves get the best of you, especially for something you REALLY wanted to excel at. However we want to phrase it - performance anxiety, stage fright, butterflies, interview-nerves . . . it all produces a similar feeling in the moments leading up to needing to be “on” and perform at your best. And these feelings - I should note -  are completely normal, they can even be helpful  . . . but it’s when they become  all consuming and that  sheer PANIC sets in - that's when it becomes a problem, and no longer serves you.Annoyingly - I’ve had many times over the years where  the nerves and panic got the better of me, and my performance suffered as a result.  And even though I ‘perform’ in different ways on a more regular basis now  - whether through morning tv segments, podcast interviews or keynotes… the truth is, as an anxious-leaning person, the butterflies still very much come up.The *DIFFERENCE* now though - after over a decade of trial and error, is that I’ve developed a pre-show routine that helps lay a calm foundation, so that when the time comes to be “on” I’m thinking clearly and able to perform at my best. And I’m sharing that step by step with you today.Feel free to take one or all and try them on for size, especially if you’ve got something important coming up - in which case - you've GOT this. 😉
If a good mood, better gut, glowing skin and a happier mood are of interest to you,  listening to today's episode is worth the 14 minutes. We're getting right into it today, and talking about a KEY shift that can have a ripple effect on your over all health. We're covering:why the microbiome is so importantare bacteria the ones controlling us?a key marker of a healthy microbiome what's wrecked our gut's diversitystrategies to increase variety (including ones you  might have not considered before)the reason red foods matter and the new HOT shot bacteria on the blockare fermented foods actually good? As always, if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions - feel free to email me at info@kylebuchanan.ca
Today's guest is the wonderful Gina Livy.  Over the years I have received a lot of DMs from people asking me if I know Gina, if I'm familiar with her work and her weight loss approach. And my answer is always a resounding yes. And after today's conversation, I'm an even bigger fan than I was before.  We talk about her approach to weight-loss  in today's episode, BUT also get into her evolution as an entrepreneur, and getting told countless times that she’s charging TOO LITTLE for what she offers. But as you'll hear,  she came out on top - building a multimillion dollar business (we’re talking over 8 figures) - and she did that by following her gut. ***And I want to make the point that we do talk about weight-loss in this episode, and it can be a tricky subject to navigate. Especially because we just talked about body image last month on this very show. But I think it’s important to note that the two subjects are not synonymous. Weight does not correlate with worth, and I want to recognize that there are a lot of unhealthy obsessions and messaging about weight that we still hear about today. But the fact remains that some of us, at different points in our lives, might want to take steps to lose weight for a variety of reasons. And it’s important when that choice is made, to lose weight in a sustainable, healthy way and not some extreme crash diet that most of the time does NOT work. There are many healthy, sustainable ways to do it, and Gina’s Method, I believe, is one of them. We're covering:Gina's own journey with weight lossWhat the Livy Method isan underrated factor when it comes to successful weight-lossnavigating online hate when running a weight loss businessbuilding a massive business and going from a team of 1 to a team of 47Gina's feelgood thingGina's advice for any entrepreneur battling doubt About Gina: Gina Livy is the founder and CEO of Weight Loss by Gina, best selling author, and creator of The Livy Method. She is redefining weight loss with her revolutionary method that helps people lose weight in a healthy and sustainable way. Ever heard the optimistic concept that the MORE effort something takes, the LESS likely we are to succeed? It's a downer . . . but in many ways it's true. And it's one of the reason why it's so hard to make habits stick when we pile on massive change. So if you've been one to try to make multiple changes, and none of them stick . . . Or you're so busy that you feel there's no reasonable time to put towards anything health-related . . . Today's episode is for you. We're coveringleap day magicwhat the path of least resistance is and how it can be applied to effective changeeffective ways to cut caffeineeffecive ways to slow down how fast we eat an underrated tool that has a massive effect on your healthan easy way to remember your supplements today's feelgood thingAs always, if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions - feel free to email me at info@kylebuchanan.ca

Today, Jordan Gavaris is getting candid and honest (and charmingly funny). From body image issues and internalized shame, to navigating homophobic "advice" from agents and finding success on a massive scale in a harsh industry - we're getting into it all today.  And spilling some tea (both of us).We live in our own unique worlds, and when it comes to body image and how we see ourselves - that is a very personal, individual and sometimes LONELY thing. So in hearing more stories,  like Jordan's today - and getting insight into other people’s experiences, it can help expand our own understanding, and remind us that the journey of self-perception is personal BUT also universally shared. And hopefully it can lead us to be more compassionate towards ourselves.**Disclaimer: we talk body image, as well as eating disorders in todays episode.
