Success & Comparison

Success & Comparison

2023-07-1821:16

In this episode, we dive deep into the concept of success and its complex relationship with comparison. Mandy shares her own unique perspectives on success and offers a fresh perspective, emphasizing that success isn't a one-size-fits-all concept. She dismantles the societal stereotype that success is solely tied to income, number of clients, or constant busyness. She encourages listeners to reframe their definition of success to encompass personal joy, life balance, and resilience in the face of adversity.Navigating through the concept of comparison, she warns of the dangers of imposter syndrome, burnout, and negative self-talk that often stem from excessive comparison with others while emphasizing the importance of finding what works for you personally.Mandy urges listeners to find the positive aspects in comparison, like learning new strategies or discovering more efficient ways to do things. Moreover, she calls attention to unhealthy comparisons that can lead to a cycle of self-deprecation and doubt. Because someone else's opinion of your success shouldn't dictate your self-worth or business direction.More about the 80/20 rule Support the Show.If you are new to The Leashed Mind Podcast, Mental Health & Dog Training then please don't forget to like, follow and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts!@theleashedmind on Instagram@theleashedmind.pod on Facebook@theleashedmind on YouTube Support the show & help us continue making great content for listeners everywhere - cancel anytime, no commitment! I Got Burnt Out

I Got Burnt Out

2023-06-2027:03

This is a different kind of episode from our usual! Back in early April I was experiencing a lot of overwhelm with....projects piling up, an impending surgery that I knew was going to derail my usual flow for 2+ months,  and not feeling like I would be able to get all the things done, in a timely manner...which caused me to work harder and longer - working on days off, not giving myself adequate breaks, downtime and time to recharge. I caused myself to get very burnt out and when that happened...I chose to record when I was in the middle of it, just barely starting to turn a corner mid-burnout. I wasn't sure if I was going to end up using this but I am so glad I recorded it and am able to look back on where my mindset was, being able to KNOW how I got to that point and how I have avoided it for the last 2 months since. In this episode you'll be able to not only hear the difference but if you watch the YouTube you can see the difference of how I am mid-burnout vs how I am normally. This episode is to help you shift your perspective if you are feeling overloaded with things, if you're having a hard time noticing the burn out "cues", if you've been feeling like your brain is just not working with you lately - I get it and I want you to know that you can absolutely change it around. I just takes training yourself and being kind to yourself while you figure it out. Support the Show.If you are new to The Leashed Mind Podcast, Mental Health & Dog Training then please don't forget to like, follow and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts!@theleashedmind on Instagram@theleashedmind.pod on Facebook@theleashedmind on YouTube Support the show & help us continue making great content for listeners everywhere - cancel anytime, no commitment! In this episode I have a chat with Dr.Chris Pachel of Animal Behavior Clinic & Instinct Dog Training & Behavior, Portland. This episode is FILLED with so many juicy relatable nuggets and also just so much laughter and joy that Dr.Pachel tends to always bring to the table. He and I really dig into what setting boundaries within your business can and should look like, how that can help provide more clarity not only to your clientele but also to how YOU would like your business to look 5,10,20 years down the road. When we think of trainers, behaviorists, behavior consultants that we see speaking as conferences and the like...we often form this thought that "Clearly, they have it altogether because they are successful, they wear so many hats they're obviously not getting burnt out like I am." When in reality, it's a matter of hitting all the same struggles we do and then, learning how to set up our antecedents better so that we don't keep encountering the same struggles and cycles of burn out. In this episode I have a chat with Janet Cutler of Landmark Behaviour and The Behaviory Podcast! On top of running her behavior consulting business, Janet is also an instructor at the Ontario Veterinary College, teaching veterinary students about companion animal behavior and welfare. In this episode Janet and I dig into imposter syndrome and professional growth - how we can turn it into something useful instead, and how that can help us achieve our personal and professional goals. Many of us encounter imposter syndrome frequently and we all know how that can sometimes cause us to freeze, want to back pedal or give up altogether but I think in hearing this discussion between Janet and I, you just might walk away feeling ready to challenge your imposter syndrome. Sometimes all it takes is hearing other professionals talk about how they have learned to tackle their imposter syndrome, to help make you feel not only less alone but also reassured that THIS IS NORMAL and it's not a sign to give up, it's a sign that you are passionate about what you're doing and you deserve to be here. Habits and Comparison

2023-05-3029:04

In this episode I break down WHY creating, adjusting and developing certain habits for starting our day, really affects how we move through our day and our week. But in true ADHD fashion I couldn't stay on just one topic, I also touch on how comparison on social media affects how we're approaching our business - be that online or how we think about our business as a whole. My goal with this episode is to help put things into perspective a little bit more when it comes to how we choose to wake up and start our day - not every day is going to be the exact same BUT having different ways to help offset whatever mood we might wake up in, really helps in how we end up showing up not only for our clients and their dogs but also how we show up for ourselves inside and outside of our business. This week I have a chat with Lisa Corcoran of The Confident Hound located in Waco,TX.Before Lisa was a dog trainer, she worked with veterans at the VA, specifically with trauma therapy, after completing her masters in Psychology. In this episode we discuss how her background and former career working with veterans and trauma, has really helped her in leaning into focusing on reactivity and behavior cases, how she approaches those cases, and where she really notices the overlap between both careers. Lisa, like many of us was diagnosed with ADHD later in her adult life so we also share how she's learned to work with ADHD as a business owner and new mom.
