David Condon started collecting and selling pieces of the set from James Cameron's Titanic before the film had come out in cinemas. A lucky coincidence had him stumble upon a story about a stash of timber, decking and plasterwork that had been discarded erroneously in a Mexican field not far from the studio where Titanic was filmed. The locals had been invited to come and take what they needed. Many of the items were well made and too good to dump so they were repurposed in homes and business buildings. It was free building material. There followed David's twenty five plus year Mexican scavenger hunt for Titanic memorabilia in the form of doors, railings, portholes and wooden paneling. Parts of a movie set that are usually taken to the dump to be trashed.Nelson and Alexandra barely had enough time in this episode to hear all his wonderful stories of discovery. He's a Titaniac Detective in the most interesting ways. Some of his items from the film can be viewed on his eBay shop TitanicDave4uwww.ebay.com/usr/titanicdave4uTo see some of the items he talks about watch his episode on the Titanic Talk YouTube channel.TITANIC TALK Official Merchandise now on sale HERET-shirts, hoodies, baseball caps and mugs - the perfect gift for your favourite TitaniacFor more information on where to watchSHIP OF DREAMS: TITANIC MOVIE DIARIES go toshipofdreamsfilm.comShip of Dreams on FacebookShip of Dreams on TikTokWatch TITANIC TALK on YouTube go to ~TITANIC TALK YouTubeInstagram @titanic_talk_podcastFacebookFollow NelsonInstagram @nelsonaspenTwitter @nelsonaspenFollow Alexandra Instagram @fstclsswmn Twitter @alexactwrdirTikTok

Michael Kinnan never expected a ten minute college assignment based on his favourite movie, Titanic, would turn into an hour long homage to James Cameron's epic tale. NEVER LET GO sees Michael telling the story of Jack and Rose and he plays ALL the parts. The one man show has played in New York, Los Angeles and The Edinburgh Festival transcending language and cultures with just enough combination of camp, tongue in cheek and pathos to have the New York Times declare "...as for the sex scene... It's better here'.Nelson and Alexandra delve into the origins of making an intimate close up show about one of the biggest films of all time, stripped down to the essence of a young Edwardian woman falling in love with Jack Dawson, without sacrificing the horror and pain of the loss of so many lives.Michael next performs Never Let Go at Dynasty Typewriter on April 16th 2024 - the day after the 112th anniversary of the sinking and again May 22nd - June 1st in New York at Brooklyn's Brick Theater. If you are a Titaniac and in those cities, add it to your bucket list -  you must NOT miss it.Dynasty Typewriter LABrick Theatre NYMichael's Instagram@ofmichaelandmenLinktreelinktr.ee/michaelkinnanTITANIC TALK Official Merchandise now on sale HERET-shirts, hoodies, baseball caps and mugs - the perfect gift for your favourite TitaniacFor more information on where to watchSHIP OF DREAMS: TITANIC MOVIE DIARIES go toshipofdreamsfilm.comShip of Dreams on FacebookShip of Dreams on TikTokWatch TITANIC TALK on YouTube go to ~TITANIC TALK YouTubeInstagram @titanic_talk_podcastFacebookFollow NelsonInstagram @nelsonaspenTwitter @nelsonaspenFollow Alexandra Instagram @fstclsswmn Twitter @alexactwrdirTikTok

This has to be one of our most fascinating episodes. Commander Parks Stephenson, mariner and explorer, takes us down to the wreck of Titanic. His knowledge of the exploration of the wreck and the ongoing forensics into how and why she sank is fascinating. As a result he's had some lively debates with his good friend James Cameron about where and how Titanic struck the iceberg...You won't want to miss this one. Peter White auditioned for a number of roles in Titanic and eventually landed the role of the wireless operator of the Californian who tragically turned off his radio and went to bed while the Titanic sank. Peter did extensive research into his character, Charles Victor Groves, or 3rd Officer Groves, of the Californian. He spent more than four months in Rosarito Beach, Mexico, getting to know his fellow cast mates while waiting to be called the set to film his scenes. He regales Nelson and Alexandra with tales from the nightly Happy Hours in the Real Del Mar bar to filming on the set of the Californian wireless room, only to find at an early screening that he had been completely cut from the film. All he was left with was a group of new friends and a special story to repeat at dinner parties in the ensuing twenty five years.Peter is featured in Alexandra's documentary Ship of Dreams: Titanic Movie Diaries reading from the diary he wrote in 1998.Follow Peter and Victoria's exploits in house renovation at  @weboughtalondonhouseTITANIC TALK Official Merchandise now on sale HERET-shirts, hoodies, baseball caps and mugs - the perfect gift for your favourite TitaniacFor more information on where to watchSHIP OF DREAMS: TITANIC MOVIE DIARIES go toshipofdreamsfilm.comShip of Dreams on FacebookShip of Dreams on TikTokWatch TITANIC TALK on YouTube go to ~TITANIC TALK YouTubeInstagram @titanic_talk_podcastFacebookFollow NelsonInstagram @nelsonaspenTwitter @nelsonaspenFollow Alexandra Instagram @fstclsswmn Twitter @alexactwrdirTikTok

Kris Andersson worked with choreographer Lynne Hockney on a film before she was looking for dancers to help her on James Cameron's Titanic. Kris was hired for the dance team and learnt traditional folk dances for Lynne to show James Cameron. But he ended up in Mexico with the rest of the dancers teaching Titanic's Third Class 'passengers' their steps and on one very special occasion twirled Kate Winslet in his arms for a morning when he doubled for Leonardo Di Caprio.Like many of the actors featured in Alexandra's Ship of Dreams: Titanic Movie Diaries, Kris's unique perspective and his unforgettable experiences on the set of Titanic add more stories to those you have never heard before.Kris on Instagram@dixielongateKris's Websitedixielongate.comTITANIC TALK Official Merchandise now on sale HERET-shirts, hoodies, baseball caps and mugs - the perfect gift for your favourite TitaniacFor more information on where to watchSHIP OF DREAMS: TITANIC MOVIE DIARIES go toshipofdreamsfilm.comShip of Dreams on FacebookShip of Dreams on TikTokWatch TITANIC TALK on YouTube go to ~TITANIC TALK YouTubeInstagram @titanic_talk_podcastFacebookFollow NelsonInstagram @nelsonaspenTwitter @nelsonaspenFollow Alexandra Instagram @fstclsswmn Twitter @alexactwrdirTikTok

Joshua Noble came to us via the wonderful Titanic community that has grown, widened and deepened since Alexandra made her feature documentary SHIP OF DREAMS: Titanic Movie Diaries to co-ordinate with the 25th anniversary celebrations of James Cameron's Titanic. And since co-hosting Titanic Talk with Nelson Aspen - a podcast that started as a way to promote the film but now stands on its own as a place to delve further into the stories of Titanic - we continue to build on that community. Joshua Noble has been interested in the history of the ship from a very young and age and once he was old enough to watch it, a fan of the film too. But of particular interest are the lesser known characters, survivors and stories that go beyond Thomas Andrews, Captain Smith and Molly Brown. In this episode he shines a light on Annie Robinson, Archibald Butt, Lutie Davis and many others. You will learn a lot and you're in for a real treat! This episode of TITANIC TALK was recorded in early May before the tragic events of last week when five men lost their lives in the Titan submersible. As you listen to Gareth Russell, author of the meticulously researched book "The Ship of Dreams: The Sinking of the Titanic and the End of the Edwardian Era," you will not fail to be struck by the eerie parallels between his insights on Titanic and the recent events surrounding the loss of the Titan that has shaken the maritime world. Our hearts go out to their families and loved ones during this difficult time.In his book, Gareth sheds light on various aspects of the Titanic's ill-fated voyage and explores how the disaster could have been prevented. He discusses his admiration for individuals like Thomas Andrews, the ship's designer, and The Countess of Rothes, a survivor who displayed incredible bravery and social conciousness. It's chilling to think that some of Gareth's predictions resonate with the recent loss of Stockton Rush, Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman Dawood, Hamish Harding and the renown and highly respected explorer Paul-Henri Nargeolet.Gareth draws parallels between the Edwardians' disregard for technological warning signs and our current negligence towards climate change much like the oversight exhibited by Oceangate in their deep-sea diving operations. The losses suffered in the name of Titanic, the ship of dreams, continue to haunt us and serve as a cautionary tale. A stark reminder that history has a way of repeating itself when we fail to learn from our past mistakes.
