In this episode of the Jeff Bradbury Show, Jeff discusses the 4 things that every podcast website needs to have to be efficient and successful. If you are a new listener to TeacherCast, we would love to hear from you. Please visit our Contact Page and let us know how we can help you today. 4 Critical Things Your Website Needs To Be Successful A Focus Every website needs a focus but not every website HAS a focus. When developing your website, there are only two major focuses that you should be thinking about…. YOU, and YOUR AUDIENCE. A Well-Organized Office Suite Over the last few years, I have been asked the same question over and over … “how do you keep everything organized?” The answer is simple … GET ORGANIZED AND STAY ORGANIZED! Last year, I converted all my TeacherCast files from Google into Microsoft Office documents and started using Microsoft Teams to keep everything neatly wrapped under one digital roof. Because of this system, I am now able to quickly create a series of templates that span weeks into the future saving me countless hours of prep time each week. Using applications such as Microsoft Teams, Planner, and Microsoft 365 has provided me not only with an organizational system from which I can build my business but also allows me to have more time at home with my family. Clearly Defined Landing Pages Every website is made up of posts and pages, but what is the difference? Blog posts, podcast posts, and other like content are uni-themed pieces of content that are dynamic in nature. Your pages, however, are vehicles where not only your posts and podcasts live, but your audience spends the majority of their time. Creating landing pages that not only tell your story, but walk your user through a content journey will allow you to determine not only what they click on, but HOW they click on the content you are creating. Email Marketing If you are looking to Build Your EDU Brand, then email marketing needs to be always on the front of your mind. The ability to bring in a reader or listener to your website is easy, but capturing their email and allowing them the opportunity to be a part of your inner circle is a completely different ball game. Your email marketing starts on the top of your front page (no pop-up’s please) and ends months and months later when you convert those users into paying customers of your book, online course, or additional content. In this episode of the Jeff Bradbury Show, Jeff shares his 5 Non-Negotiable Rules for Personal and Professional Branding. If you are a new listener to TeacherCast, we would love to hear from you. Please visit our Contact Page and let us know how we can help you today. 5 Rules of Personal and Professional Branding Be Hyper Focused This first one is important and a rule that I often break. When you are trying to create something that you want people to remember you for, you must stay hyper-focused. When a user comes to your website, listens to your podcast, or sees you on Social Media, you want them to instantly connect with not only who you are, but what your message is. This will help you not only stay on brand but keep you focused on hitting your target avatar. If you create content in multiple content streams it gets messy and tends to confuse your audience who will eventually grow to expect a certain type of content from you each week. On TeacherCast, the content is broken down into 5 distinct categories, General EdTech, Instructional Coaching, Website Design, Podcasting, and Build your EDU Brand. It is possible that someone will visit the website interested in learning about all these topics, but more likely that they are visiting for only one topic and not interested in the others. For this reason, I offer them multiple Social Media accounts where they can feel like they are getting the content they are interested in without being bombarded by content they are not interested in. If you look at many of the larger brands, this same philosophy applies. They might have a Twitter account for their company and an individual Twitter account to support individual applications or programs within the company. For smaller companies and those just getting started, I don’t recommend this method at all. When starting as a new brand, companies should create a single brand that is memorable, on point with their content and most of all, hyper focused on their company message. Be Authentic One of the biggest lessons that anyone can learn early on in their brands is the ability to become vulnerable and authentic with their audience. It is extremely difficult to gain a subscriber, attract a podcast listener, or entice a company to work with you. On the other hand, it’s extremely easy for someone to click the unfollow or unsubscribe button and walk away forever. Have you ever thought about how much time it takes you to gain a follower, a subscriber, or like? Out of all the 5 Rules, this is the most difficult one to live up to. Being Authentic means being vulnerable. You must put yourself “out there” to your audience in a way that makes them not only know who you are, but care about you enough for them to want to come back to you for added conversations. For some content creators this is easy. I often see educators at conferences who have a talent for being in front of groups and letting themselves be present in the moment. For me this is scarry. For the longest time, I put up a wall between myself and my audience. For the first several years of TeacherCast, I even (on purpose) omitted my name from the website. Even to this day, I still refer to TeacherCast as “it” or in the third person. Often, I when asked how the website or podcast is doing, I respond with “it’s going great” or “we are doing some good things together”. In hindsight, this is a defense mechanism to hide how proud I am of my accomplishments and how much I am proud of how many people the podcast has affected over the years. About 4 years into TeacherCast, I decided to add my name to the sidebar on the front page. This was a BIG STEP and a step that only happened once I met someone at a conference who said something shocking to me. They said, “I listen to your podcast all of the time, but I would never know it was you because you...

Are you looking to grow your platform but not sure where to start? In this episode of the Jeff Bradbury Show, we are going be taking a look at 5 Rules of Personal and Professional Branding. If you are a new listener to TeacherCast, we would love to hear from you. Please visit our Contact Page and let us know how we can help you today! 5 Rules of Personal and Professional Branding Be Hyper Focused When you are trying to create something that you want people to remember you for, you must stay hyper-focused. This will help you not only stay on brand but keep you focused on hitting your target avatar. If you create content in multiple content streams it gets messy and tends to confuse your audience who will eventually grow to expect a certain type of content from you each week. For example, if you are used to writing long-form content then it’s best to keep that format. Suddenly switching to short-form content might turn off some of your long-time supporters. Be Authentic One of the biggest lessons that anyone can learn early on in their brands is the ability to become vulnerable and authentic with their audience. It is extremely difficult to gain a subscriber, attract a podcast listener, or entice a company to work with you. On the other hand, it’s very easy to Have a Story Audiences connect to people, not to content. If you create a great blog post or write a good book, you may get several people checking it out, but once they get what they need, they will eventually bounce and might never come back. However, if you can find a way to tell your story through your content your audience will be able to connect not with just what they are trying to consume, but with YOU the content creator. Be Consistent Being consistent means being consistent everywhere. When you go through the process of creating a brand you take the time to think about your logo, brand colors, fonts, styles, and tone of your product. (and so much more) Consistency is the one thing that makes people remember you. Think about your favorite soft drink company. What makes them stand out from the pack? Is it the way that their drink tastes? Maybe … but I bet it’s also the way the product looks, or the packaging they use, or the colors and style of their logos. Consistency is super important when creating your brand kit as well as any content that you produce. Live Your Brand Have you ever seen a speaker get up and do a big presentation and then get off the stage and do a complete 180 when you meet them? If you are hyper-focused on what you are doing, being consistent and authentic about your story then you are on the fast track to living your brand. Your audience wants to route for you. They want to see you succeed. They want to know what you are going to be posting next because they want to get to know YOU.

So, when the colleges came running, he accepted a full ride to the University of Arkansas. Despite being unable to read or write, he went on to be one of the most prolific players to grace the Razorbacks’ campus. In 1974, Tolson was the first basketball player to be drafted by both the NBA and the ABA, having been selected by the Seattle Supersonics and the New York Nets, respectively, ultimately playing for the legendary Bill Russell in Seattle. Following his basketball career, Tolson made the courageous decision to re-enroll at the University of Arkansas, and repeated all four years, this time legitimately. At the age of fifty-two, he returned to the university for three more years, earning a master’s degree and graduated magna cum laude. Tolson’s gripping story from his childhood in an orphanage to his academic achievements is not only an indictment of a system that would just “pass you along” from grade to grade as a hot basketball prospect without any educational accountability, but also an inspiring story of overcoming great odds to find success.Links of Interest Book: Power Forward Website: https://www.deantolson.com. In this episode of the Jeff Bradbury Show, Jeff sits down Jay Hammes, founder of Safe Sport Zone to share his best secrets for building your brand through hard work, passion, and by targeting your audience with a personal touch. If you are a new listener to TeacherCast, we would love to hear from you. Please visit our Contact Page and let us know how we can help you today. About our Guest: Jay Hammes Jay has been involved in athletics his entire life: as a player, a coach, a teacher and athletic administrator at the high school, district, and collegiate levels. In 2013, he was named Wisconsin’s “Athletic Director of the Year,” inducted into the Wisconsin Athletic Directors Association Hall of Fame, Washington Park High School Hall of Fame, and was a nominated for the NIAAA Distinguished Service Award and their Frank Kovaleski Professional Development Award. Jay’s passion for high school athletics has had him speaking throughout the country on maintaining a safer environment for after-school events. This earned Safe Sport Zone national recognition at Disney World by NCS4. He is currently working with the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association and is the author, chair and lead instructor of the leadership training course called “Contest Management.” Jay has had many articles published, and has been quoted as a source in numerous articles, including, USA Today: “Security A Growing Concern.” Jay graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh with a BS in Physical Education, followed by earning his master’s degree from the United States Sports Academy in Sports Management. He’s currently an elected Board Trustee for the Village of Wind Point; his major responsibility was overseeing the Village’s Police, Fire, and Safety. About Safe Sport Zone Nearly all school districts have security measures in place during school days. However, similar risk management policies are too often overlooked or ignored for evening events. Safe Sport Zone has developed plans to assure safer environments for activities occurring at times other than during the regular school hours. Safe Sport Zone has developed a staffing model for athletic administrators to adopt as a best practice. Spectator issues, identifying all fans, athletic concerns, facilities maintenance, evacuation procedures, and applications for almost any emergency are all part of the exercises. For interscholastic athletics to survive, the games kids play have to be enjoyable, entertaining, safe, and educationally driven. Safe Sport Zone is committed to these principles.
