did you also know that when you grow in your intimacy with God, you also make yourself vulnerable as well? Wait, what? You might be thinking, “I thought the closer we got to God the more protected we were. I thought if I walked close with God, he would protect me from bad things and hard things. I thought if a person followed Jesus closely bad things won’t happen to good people.”Not so! In fact, if you have determined to invest your life in God and cultivate an intimacy with the Almighty, you’re actually asking for it.Some have called this the “Peril Principle.”

I don’t have a problem with being busy. You look at an average day of Jesus’ life; it was probably busier than most of ours. However, it also contained margin, balance, and silence. The problem I have is that we make our business and our productivity into our identity. The problem I have is that we allow our business, title, and job become the thing that gives us value. We are willing to sacrifice relationships in pursuit of a career. When this happens, the result is going to be exhaustion… burnout.

Today, I want to talk with you about Christ as our Healer. Let me share a couple of true stories with you. The first story is about a woman named Sue that I was friends with at my church in Chico. Sue discovered a lump in her breast. Second story is our friend Steve Luster, a good friend at re:new and our head greeter.

Jesus is preeminent, everything else is second 

Being in Christ is what gives Christians their true identity, regardless of culture or circumstance.

Happy Easter to all of you! I’m glad you are here for this Easter celebration! Easter is such a big deal in Christian churches because everything in Christianity rises or falls on the resurrection of Jesus. Everything Jesus said and did would either be validated as true and authentic...or proven to be false and deceptive. Two thousand years ago, the Bible claims that because of our imperfections and sin problem, God became flesh in the person of his Son Jesus. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He lived a life without sin...but, took all our sin upon himself, and died on a cross, taking our punishment for our sin so that we could be forgiven and qualified for heaven. Three days later, the Bible says, “He is risen!” Jesus rose from the grave. The significance of this event for your life and my life is huge. The resurrection of Jesus makes it possible for each one of us to experience the most important “do-over” of our lives. 

Our Good Friday service is a time to reflect on what Jesus did for us on the cross.

In the crucifixion, Jesus fulfills God’s promises for our redemption. 

In a culture that often celebrates self-sufficiency and independence, it's easy to fall into the trap of relying solely on our own abilities, wisdom, and resources. We live in an era where the mantra of "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" echoes loudly, and the idea of depending on anyone but ourselves can seem counterintuitive or even weak. Yet, as we dig into the Scriptures, we uncover a profound truth: our strength is found not in ourselves, in our individualism, it is not found in self-reliance, but in our humble dependence on God.

God will use the plans of people to accomplish His ultimate purposes.

Repeated rejection leads up ultimate rejection

Jesus is Lord of all and can be trusted to bring peace in the storms of life.

Jesus still heals all our diseases in accordance with God’s sovereign purposes in our lives.

We’re starting a new series today where we will work our way through the Gospel according to Mark. From the very first verse Mark declares that we’re in a new time and there is victory in the person of Jesus, the Christ, the salvation of God, who is the Son of God! 

The promising hope of Christmas is Jesus born to you.
