In this episode of Joke Talk Yell Write Podcast, I bring you into my world of anger and share with you a few ways I am trying to work through it on my new podcast series; We’re All Mad Here.I co-host. We’re All Mad Here with my partner, Madeline. In each episode of the show, we look to transform our anger and rage (about whatever we’re talking about on any given day) into something better. I’ve shared our newest episode, NDN Clothes, where we break down National Indigenous History Month and why we have a hard time "celebrating" with the rest of the country. You can subscribe to We’re All Mad Here wherever you get your podcasts!SHOW NOTESWe’re All Mad Here Website Get full access to Joke Talk Yell Write by Ryan McMahon at joketalkyellwrite.substack.com/subscribe Hosted on Acast. Marvin's Deadly Sander

Marvin's Deadly Sander

2023-05-2619:09

I was once a punk rock DIY comic that survived on tour by sleeping on the side of the road, eating cold breakfast sandwiches, and drinking bottled water. I’m still a comic, and I still do everything myself, but I’ve mostly quit the cold breakfast sandwiches and sleeping on the side-of-the-road bullshit. Now in my mid-forties, I have leaned into my over-the-hill, constantly moderately tired, home depot dad years. I honestly caught myself admiring the sander my neighbour across the street had the other day, and I said to myself, “I fucking want that sander. Goddamn, Marvin has a deadly sander.”This is my audio essay titled “Marvin’s Deadly Sander.” Get full access to Joke Talk Yell Write by Ryan McMahon at joketalkyellwrite.substack.com/subscribe Hosted on Acast. Old Dad

I’m an old dad. I will be in my mid-sixties when my youngest graduates from high school. It occurred to me the other day that I will need to open up my spirit to things I left behind long ago - playdates with other people’s kids that I can’t stand, parent-teacher nights and volunteer work with insufferably boring parents I have nothing in common with, and the wonderful world of discovery, creativity, and play. This is my audio essay on being an “old dad.” Get full access to Joke Talk Yell Write by Ryan McMahon at joketalkyellwrite.substack.com/subscribe Hosted on Acast. Yesterday's fire at Notre Dame Cathedral, in the heart of Paris, France, could be a moment of deep reflection, a moment that sparks hate and fury, or a moment to stand for something better.  This is a reflection on property and place, terra nullius, and the humanity of Indigenous Peoples that asks the question, "if it's not a good time to talk about colonization, when is it a good time to talk about colonization?"   SHOW NOTES This Is Why The US Is Fixing France's Notre Dame Cathedral (VICE News) https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=340195353295534   Red Man Laughing - Reconciliation (Season 5) https://www.redmanlaughing.com/season-5/ Get full access to Joke Talk Yell Write at joketalkyellwrite.substack.com/subscribe
