The 3rd season of LVTech Radio wraps up with the trial of a new format - and some of the technical glitches we're all used to (yeah, they'll be fixed in 2015). Somehow missing part of the 2nd hour (but don't worry @markkoberlein even the parts where your mic is off are safe). Ever wanted to know how @LVTech started? @tjlytle kicks things off talking about that. @josh_miller brings his trademark style via phone lines (we almost have that figured out), and @spainb and @anthonydurante join in most of the fun. We talk a bit about the top gifts you can make in a FabLab, along with all that's been going on at the FabLab. @TechonomicMan joins to talk a bit about startups (some of which was lost) and - of course - the 3rd hour is the normal chaos @markkoberlein brings.
@anthonydurante and @TechonomicMan talk a bit about Startup Weekend, Global Entrepreneur Week, and other random startup related bits as they keep the secret guest, well, secret. Then @RandyBitting talks about what it's like to exit from a startup, transition away from running the company, and what that's like for an entrepreneur.
But where's @anthonydurante? Some how @TechonomicMan manages with only the non-business ramblings of @tjlytle. But before things get too serious, @TechonomicMan talks a bit about the Ice Bucket Challenge. Which segues (you be the judge about nicely) into a great show about marketing with @stanten from @TeamAltitude. War metaphors abound, and there's some talk about Alaska, LL Bean, and - well - you'll hear it.
When @anthonydurante calls in sick, that leaves @TechonomicMan stranded with @tjlytle. Near chaos ensues, but - as always - they remember to turn off guests mic until talking about old operating systems and mobile games developed by a 5 year old (well, at least the UI). Fortunately @ritachesterton joins, and the conversation takes a more professional turn. @TechonomicMan's view of accelerators is explored a bit, as well as the progress of @skafflapp. And a lot of talk about dollar stores. So much value.
@TechonomicMan and @anthonydurante talk a bit about their immensely successful NBIA presentation (with much credit do to a haircut). Then segue into a discussion about keeping local students engaged in the local community. There's some talk about internships, then they turn to Chris Kauzmann to talk about Lehigh's new accelerator. At some point there's a vague announcement about a Startup Barracks.
@TechonomicMan and @anthonydurante talk a bit about their upcoming presentation at the NBIA conference in N'Orleans. Then @PanzerLegal joins to talk about intellectual property law. No only does @PanzerLegal bring his own microphone (making @tjlytle a bit jealous), but he brings along a recent patent example. After dissecting the Amazon example a bit, the conversation moves to contrasting patents with trade secrets, their value, and the recent change in law from 'invent first' to 'file first'. The usually quite @tjlytle chimes in with a few odd scenarios, but in the end @anthonydurante brings things back on tack, and gets @PanzerLegal to give the top three intellectual property tips for entrepreneurs.
@TechonomicMan springs an impromptu Startup Name Game on @anthonydurante and mostly silent tech guy @tjlytle as an intro to Angel Investing. PK Govind of Lehigh Valley Angels then joins to talk about his experiences as an angel investor. There's a bit about angel investing in general, how it differs from other funding options and what makes an angel group different from individual investors. All that and some real-life stories of investments and companies. And a quick preview of this year's Ben Franklin ixchange.
This time @anthonydurante runs the show and @tjlytle literally has no idea who's supposed to be talking when. Obviously there's some talk about Facebook and the Oculus. And how @TechonomicMan is depressed by Candy Crush. Then @Pourcurator joins the conversation about craft brewers in the Lehigh Valley. And wine made from honey, that no one can call mead.
This show @anthonydurante and @TechonomicMan talk about what they'd do with 19 billion dollars, or something like that in Facebook stock. They how facebook is the Oldsmobile of social media, and how @TechonomicMan has downloaded WhatsApp, but is looking for someone else to install it so he can actually send a message. Then there's a little talk about the ideas that can't get the next round of funding - like Everpix - a why that happens. Also @TechonomicMan trots out some fancy words, and it seems to impress @anthonydurante. Finally Bill Kirk from @WeatherTrends joins to talk about the business side of weather forecast, which, it turns out for them, is weather for businesses.
First official season of Startup Lehigh Valley kicks off with @anthonydurante and @TechonomicMan connecting remotely due to the snow. @anthonydurante talks about a few new companies at the AEDC's incubator, and @TechonomicMan does not. There some talk about Google's recent acquisition, and how it relates to the Internet of Things. Jack Romaine joins the conversation talking about how RFIDs are becoming more ubiquitous, as well as his experience incubating his company in the Lehigh Valley. At the end, @TechonomicMan riffs on the Startup Name Game to talk about some recent companies that secured funding.
