Description

Progcast is a podcast featuring interviews with Johannesburg bands and experts, covering various genres and specializations.

To put it another way, Progcast is here to celebrate all that's live, loud, and local. Our mission; to drag the underground out of Jo'burg's smoky bars and into the light of exposure. We give the little guys a platform, celebrate those who've made it, and let the rest of the city know where they can see talent in action.

Tyre Fire is a prog band from Pretoria. Two of their members, Albert Smuts and Jean-Louis Brummer, were brave enough to make the trek to have a chat with us. They opened up about the Pretoria scene, their influences and how they came up with their name. They also share some advice for other up-and-coming bands out there.
Sash is the founder of Emalyth, a well known Joburg promoter, as well as the manager for Boargazm and Raptorbaby. She was kind enough to join us in studio to share some of her experiences in the alternative music scene, as well as some of the lessons she has learned along the way.
This week, we had Matt and Craig from Poverty of Ideals join us in studio to talk about their new album, how they recorded it, and their experiences with being signed to a label.
Nick Matzukis is a leading music lawyer, Chairman of CAPASSO, Executive Director for the Academy of Sound Engineering, drummer for South African band 'Reason Machine', and a huge fan of prog rock. He came to chat to us about what a local musician needs to know about protecting their copyright, about his musical roots and his love of Neil Morse. This is a very meaty interview, but full of very important information for anybody who plays music in South Africa.
Welcome to our first podcast! Joining us in studio, guitarist and friend, Austen from Savage Lucy. So grateful that we could have a chat with him. Enjoy the first of many podcasts to come.
