Description
Ricochet has been pushing the sound of broken tech since 2007, beginning as an independent outlet for label boss Lifecycle to develop less commercial fringes of the broken-beat scene. Their 20 releases since have sidestepped trends, focused instead at unexplored overlaps with electronica and techno, fusing intricate dancefloor pieces which give up their full rewards to the inquisitive home listener.
Lifecycle first released in the mid '00s with vinyl on LondonBreakz, Electrofly and Loöq before setting up the label, and continues to curate fresh fusions for open-minded followers of post-breakbeat.
Ricochet's continuing quality over quantity approach has attracted figureheads of these scenes to remix for the label, including Si Begg, Al Tourettes, Luke Chable, Rennie Foster, Lory D, Decoder, iLS, Mesak, Chris Carter, The Dexorcist, Ochre, Paul Blackford, Blackmass Plastics … along with breaking new artists Kawatin, Ion Driver and Bownr onto the bass circuit.
Recent signings include Berlin-based techno experimenter Michael Lovatt, live analogue electro act Multiple Mono from New York, and London-based electronica authority Ursa.

100% Ricochet selection … this month is purely music from the label (and a few related items of interest) … Ricochet Records back catalogue exploration … Geoff Lifecycle picks out choice tracks from Ricochet’s 40 releases since 2007, alongside a few dubplates, unreleased bits and related remixes from the label’s heyday. Having recently put together a label-only set for the Loose Lips mix series, I felt like taking a deeper dlve into some of the higher energy / DJ-mix-focused cuts from our legacy … was more fun than I expected. I was reluctant to repeat many of the same cuts I spun in last label retrospective for the podcast, which I later realised was a set from MARCH 2015 … crikey, time flies … given nearly a decade has passed since that session I could probably have worried less about any repetition, but I do strive to keep the show fresh and not bore our hardcore regulars with the same tunes month after month. Deep Ricochet Dive – Part One – Lifecycle starts the year with first of two ultra deep dives to the very depths of broken beat electro. The plan is to surpass this two hours of dubby, dark electronica with an even more raw set later in 2022, but for now this will be a high water mark. Do the Guinness Book Of World Records hold an entry for the deepest mix ever spun?
