Breathing to improve your Mental Health & Wellbeing

Deep breathing is one of the best ways to lower stress in the body. This is because when you breathe deeply, it sends a message to your brain to calm down and relax. The brain then sends this message to your body. Breathing exercises are a good way to relax, reduce tension, and relieve stressThe Breath Connection was set up in recognition & support of people whose lives are - or have been - impacted by significant stress and/or trauma. We advocate conscious breathing, cold water therapy, good nutrition and the power of 'the now', and teach these elements in our breathwork courses, live workshops and 'reset retreats' because of their combined effect on rebalancing the nervous system.Sam Murray, a former Royal Marine Commando who battled the black dog of depression, found his love of the breath initially through the Wim Hof Method, and immediately recognised the healing power of conscious breathwork and cold water immersion. In 2020, Sam met Miranda Bailey, a Nutritional Therapist & Breathwork Practitioner, who has a shared interest in how conscious breathing can be used to support mental health and ease chronic health conditions.Sam & Miranda set up The Breath Connection out of a desire to help individuals garner greater resilience and counter their ever-increasing levels of stress  - not just within the general community, but particularly within the Armed Forces, the Police & other Blue Light Services. They recognise that stress can be debilitating but together we aim to help you to:Breathe | Connect | Thrive

Fitality Season 1 Episode 3 - Treatment of CPTSD

During this episode, we explore the treatment that Chris Puddy, an ex-Police officer has had since being diagnosed with Complex PTSD. We will discuss depression, anxiety and stress that Chris felt after his traumatic road traffic collision and how the treatment has helped. We discuss the process of EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitising and Reprocessing) a form of psychotherapy that is used for the treatment of PTSD. Typically the therapist will move their fingers back and forth across the field of vision of the patient. The patient follows the movements while traumatic experiences are recalled, the therapist gradually moves toward more pleasant memories in order to alleviate the symptoms of PTSD. Like many approaches, there is no one size that fits all. Fitality "Everybody Hurts" Episode 2 - The effects of Complex PTSD

During the second episode, we explore the depression, anxiety and stress Chris Puddy felt after his traumatic road traffic collision. From extreme physical reactions to avoidance to angry outbursts and moments of being inconsolable, Complex PTSD can have many different effects. No two people are the same and the symptoms each person display will be different and unique to them. Experts have created three clusters of PTSD symptoms, re-experiencing, avoidance and hyperarousal, though how they manifest themselves in someone suffering with c-PTSD will be different for each individual. Chris describes with the team at Fountain Therapy the physical reactions he experienced through hyperarousal and how he would try and avoid certain locations and environments.
