COMAC Makes Dubai Airshow DebutBy CHARLOTTE BAILEY • WriterNovember 18, 2025The Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) is making its Middle East debut at the Dubai Airshow this week, as the Shanghai-based manufacturer seeks to foster “deeper cooperative relationships with global customers and partners.”A China Southern Airlines C919 narrowbody airliner features alongside a COMAC C909 business jet variant in the static lineup, and a second C919 is performing in the daily flying display. Originally introduced as the ARJ21, the standard C909 regional jet seats up to 97 passengers in a single-class layout or 78 in a dual-class layout. The business jet variant, the C909 CBJ, accommodates up to 29 passengers. A selection of models inside the exhibition hall indicates the C909’s potential as a medical services, firefighting, emergency management, and converted freighters. China Southern Airlines' C919 on the airshow's static display has a 164-seat three-class cabin layout. According to COMAC, its interior is designed “in an elegant Chinese style, like walking in the light.”To date, more than 170 C909 business jets and 26 C919 airliners have been delivered, although no COMAC aircraft have been certified by regulatory authorities outside China. The Chinese state-owned airframer also states that its C929 widebody aircraft, projected to have a range of 12,000 km (6,497 nm) and a standard configuration of 280 seats, is “steadily progressing in its development.”COMAC Makes Dubai Airshow Debut | Aviation International News2. UAE Considers Implementing Mandatory SAF BlendsBy CHARLOTTE BAILEY • WriterNovember 18, 2025As the UAE works toward implementing its sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) roadmap, a current “soft requirement” for a voluntary 1% blend could soon be superseded by a compulsory mandate. Speaking at an Airbus event on the opening morning of the Dubai Airshow, Sharif Al Olama, undersecretary for energy and petroleum affairs at the UAE’s ministry of energy and infrastructure, explained that over the next year, a “comprehensive assessment” on the initiative’s economic impact will inform future regulation.“We want to hit the ground running [regarding SAF],” Al Olama said. “We in the UAE have the power to drive this at a global scale.” Indeed, over the next week, he will be holding meetings with Abu Dhabi Airport, Dubai Airport, Etihad Airways, and Emirates to discuss “when we can move to the next phase.” Overall, he cites these parties’ reactions as “very positive,” with the UAE’s SAF and LCAF [Lower Carbon Aviation Fuel] Committee also “playing a role in terms of mediating between the offtakers and the suppliers.”Al Olama believes the region is well poised to help spearhead SAF for a number of reasons. “First and most important is [the UAE’s] capability of attracting investment, availing finance, and then also the ease of doing business. The second is a very agile government. […] And third, we do have certain resources that can help us deliver these kind of mandates,” he told AIN. An initiative underway in Hong Kong to convert airport waste into SAF is also a “blueprint we can apply immediately elsewhere,” he added, noting that “the scale of airports we have in the UAE” are ideally placed to benefit from a similar use of the “comprehensive ecosystem.”Maryam Ali AlBalooshi, environment manager at the UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority, added that the pressure is on to deliver “a good result” by 2028. “We are trying to build our model in a different way [to other countries],” she suggested, concluding that while the UAE has the policy and roadmap in place, “other elements are [currently] lacking."UAE Considers Implementing Mandatory SAF Blends | Aviation International News3. FAA Lifts ATC Restrictions, General Aviation BansBy KERRY LYNCH • Editor, AIN monthly magazineNovember 17, 2025The FAA has terminated an emergency order mandating a reduction of flights at 40 busy airports in the U.S. and a subsequent ban on general aviation operations at 12 of them, effective today. “This means normal operations can resume across the National Airspace System (NAS),” the agency said in a statement released yesterday.According to the FAA, the decision to terminate the order followed detailed reviews of safety trends and a steady decline of “staffing-trigger events” at air traffic control facilities. Staffing triggers had declined to eight on Saturday, compared with 81 a week earlier. The triggers eased following the end of the six-week government shutdown on November 12.These triggers led the FAA to release an order on November 7 that called for the step-down of operations overall and subsequently followed with the ban on general aviation operations at 12 specific airports on November 10. While this was going on, a few national newspapers were printing articles alleging that business jets were unaffected by the step-down in operations and suggesting air traffic control privatization options should be considered. In lifting the restrictions, the FAA noted that it was aware of reports of violations of noncompliance by air carriers and is “reviewing and assessing enforcement options.”“I want to thank the FAA’s dedicated safety team for keeping our skies secure during the longest government shutdown in our nation’s history and the country’s patience for putting safety first,” said Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy. “Now we can refocus our efforts on surging controller hiring and building the brand new, state-of-the-art air traffic control system the American people deserve.”The business and general aviation community praised the efforts of the government to keep the skies safe during the unprecedented shutdown. At the same time, they are cautious to ensure such steps do not recur.“We will continue to ensure all operations, commercial and [general aviation], are treated fairly and that our aviation system is not impacted by government shutdowns in the future,” said AOPA president and CEO Darren Pleasance. “We also look forward to continuing our work to support the hiring and training of additional air traffic controllers and modernizing our nation’s air traffic control system.”FAA Lifts ATC Restrictions, General Aviation Bans | Aviation International News4. Dubai Airshow Stands Out for Airliner Orders and Military SurprisesBy CHARLES ALCOCK • Managing EditorNovember 16, 2025The Gulf, where blockbuster commercial aviation demand converges with rising regional military spending, is arguably the prime location for a major aerospace and defense event. With the UAE consistently demonstrating its willingness to handle international relations in its own unique way, the Dubai Airshow this week is poised to make its mark as the industry closes 2025.Spending by airlines, airports, and other civil aviation service providers in the Middle East is projected to exceed $28 billion this year, on track to surpass $35 billion by 2030. Last week, the IBA consultancy predicted that more than 300 new commercial aircraft orders and commitments would be announced during the show. Based on very approximate average pricing, this business could add around $60 billion to the year-end tally.According to IBA’s chief economist and data officer, Stuart Hatcher, Emirates might confirm plans to switch its planned purchases for Boeing’s delayed 777X widebody to the 787 Dreamliner and Airbus A350-1000 models instead. He expects Airbus to have a good show, with fresh interest in its A350F freighter, and foresees more narrowbody orders from local carriers Oman Air and Etihad. However, behind these new aircraft orders lies complexity, according to Scott Hamilton, senior editor with Leeham News and Analysis, which is part of AIN Media Group. “The Middle East airlines can expect more delivery delays from Airbus and Boeing because of supply-chain delays primarily for engines and interiors,” he commented on the eve of the Dubai Airshow. “Etihad and Qatar still have issues with the Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-97 engine on the Airbus A350-1000, and Tim Clark at Emirates remains skeptical of this engine on the A350-1000, hence his continued reticence in ordering the airplane.”Hamilton expects Boeing to have a positive show with a strong presence headlined by the appearance of its 777-9 aircraft. Overall, he sees geopolitics being favorable in the context of the U.S. presence at the Dubai event.Airliner Orders and Military Surprises Set 2025 Dubai Airshow Apart | Aviation International NewsThe audio and content of this podcast shall not be used for AI model training or any other purposes. That’s all for this episode of Aviation Newsletter. GenZ Join Forces To Decarbonize Aviation

1. Pressure Mounts for Action on Drone Disruption in EuropeBy CHARLES ALCOCK • Managing EditorOctober 3, 2025German politicians on Friday called for drones that have disrupted operations at Munich Airport to be shot down, as authorities across Europe are under mounting pressure to act in the face of a spate of similar incidents. A meeting of EU interior ministers to be held in the German city on Saturday is expected to focus entirely on security threats posed by the drone incursions.Drones caused at least 15 scheduled flights to be diverted from Munich Airport between 10:20 p.m. local time on Thursday and 5 a.m. on Friday morning. At least 17 outbound departures were canceled. The incursions followed a similar pattern to disruptions at multiple airports in Denmark, Norway, Germany, and Belgium. On Thursday night, a swarm of 15 drones was sighted flying over the Elsenborn military base near the German border.Security forces have been reluctant to shoot down the drones over safety concerns at the public airports. While the Russian military is widely suspected of being behind some or all of the airspace disruptions, police in Norway detained eight Chinese nationals for allegedly flying drones near Svolvær Airport, and three Germans were arrested following an incident at the Mo i Rana Airport near Røssvoll, Norway. On Wednesday, the French Navy boarded an oil tanker sailing from the Russian port of Primorsk. It is suspected of having been used as a launch pad for drones that disrupted civil aviation operations in Denmark between September 22 and 25.According to Dyami Security Intelligence, the risk posed to aircraft remains elevated, in part because small drones are inexpensive, easy to use, and hard to track. Some of the drones appear to have been larger than others, fueling assumptions that they were longer-range vehicles fitting the profile of those used by Russian forces in the Ukraine conflict.http://www.ainonline.com/aviation-news/air-transport/2025-10-03/pressure-mounts-action-drone-disruption-europe2. Airbus Study Reveals Rising Use of Corporate Jets in AsiaBy JENNIFER MESZAROS • Contributor - AsiaOctober 2, 2025Business aircraft travel is increasingly becoming more of a staple for large-company executives in Asia, according to a just-released study by Airbus Corporate Jets. Conducted by Australian firm Pureprofile, it surveyed 67 senior professionals in China, Hong Kong, and Singapore, including 34 executives from large corporations in Asia and 33 from Asian-based family offices, hedge funds, and private equity firms managing $141 billion in assets. The study found that business aviation is now central to operations, with respondents saying that 63% to 69% of their business travel is now conducted via corporate jets. Nearly all reported saving two to three hours per trip compared with commercial flights, and 72% said at least a quarter of their business routes are not served by airlines.Productivity gains were also significant, with 87% of executives estimating a 25% to 50% improvement while traveling, and 8% reporting gains of 50% to 75%. Top benefits cited were greater flexibility to handle confidential matters and more control over schedules. Operational flexibility aligns with broader expansion, as private equity and hedge funds plan to grow their global offices, and family offices anticipate relatives relocating abroad.Beyond business and operational benefits, corporate aircraft are also widely used for humanitarian and charitable missions, with nearly all respondents citing emergency medical transport and crisis relief.Meanwhile, more than half of Asian organizations expect business jet usage to increase by 50% to 75% over the next two years.Airbus Study Reveals Rising Use of Corporate Jets in Asia | Aviation International News3. FAA Worker Reps Urge Congress To End ShutdownBy KERRY LYNCH • Editor, AIN monthly magazineOctober 1, 2025Government worker unions, including the Professional Aviation Safety Specialists (PASS) and National Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA), called on Congress to reach an agreement on federal funding. They reiterated that the government shutdown that started today is threatening critical safety operations, along with plans to modernize the nation’s air traffic control system. “At a time when there is much-needed focus and movement to reshape and revamp the nation’s air traffic control system, it is troubling that Congress has not been able to pass a continuing resolution or full appropriations bills for fiscal year 2026,” said PASS national president Dave Spero. The government shut down at midnight, at the end of fiscal year 2025. With Congress at an impasse over FY2026, funding for federal operations has lapsed. Under the Department of Transportation’s contingency plan released yesterday, more than 11,000 FAA workers would be furloughed.PASS estimated that due to the shutdown, about 60% of the FAA employees it represents will be on the job but not getting paid; another 30% are furloughed initially but subject to recall, and 10% are outright furloughed. In total, PASS represents 11,000 FAA and Department of Defense employees who install, maintain, support, and certify ATC and national defense equipment, inspect and oversee the commercial and general aviation sectors, develop flight procedures, and perform quality analyses of ATC systems. The shutdown is halting training for the technician workforce, including new hires and those at the training academy in Oklahoma City. “It can take three to five years to fully train a technician,” Spero said. “Any lapse in training can push the clock back significantly.”NATCA, meanwhile, estimated that more than 2,350 aviation safety professionals that it represents are furloughed, including aircraft certification engineers and aerospace engineers, affecting certain safety and technology work, as well as operational support, and comes when many air traffic controllers are already working mandatory overtime.“Congress must act now to end this shutdown,” said NATCA president Nick Daniels. “When the federal government shuts down, it introduces unnecessary distractions, and our entire aviation system is weakened. Congress must restore federal funding so that the safety and efficiency of our National Airspace System is not compromised.”Under a shutdown, numerous operations temporarily cease, including controller hiring and training, aviation rulemaking, random drug testing, facility security inspections, security background investigations, operations planning, NextGen technologies development and testing, FAA capital planning and implementation of facilities and equipment programs, and dispute resolution, among other programs.Activities that would continue, according to the plan, include ATC services, but without pay; maintenance of navigational aids and facilities; flight standards inspections; airworthiness directives; airmen medical certifications; certain certification activities; UAS waivers and exemptions; hazardous materials safety inspections; limited air traffic safety oversight; on-call accident investigations; and the aircraft and airmen registry, among others. Also this week, 50 aviation organizations collectively signed off on a letter urging against a shutdown.FAA Worker Reps Urge Congress To End Shutdown | Aviation International News4. Gen Z, Millennials Join Forces To Decarbonize AviationBy CHARLES ALCOCK • Managing EditorSeptember 28, 2025Achieving net-zero carbon aviation by 2050 is a generational challenge, according to a new initiative to coalesce young leaders across the industry. Emerging Leaders in Sustainable Aviation (ELSA) was launched earlier this month during the Generation 2050 panel as part of the ICAO General Assembly in Montreal. It aims to gather industry professionals 35 and younger in a common purpose that the group hopes will bear dividends over the course of their careers.Conceived by Amy Strang, a sustainability and environment marketing manager with Airbus, the project has the backing of the Air Transport Action Group. For the past two years, she has been working with the European airframer’s ZeroE team, developing concepts for hydrogen-powered airliners. The idea is that today’s 20- and 30-somethings can be expected to rise to more senior leadership positions in aviation from 2035 onwards and, as such, could be well placed to help the industry achieve its decarbonization objectives. “Our hope is that after someone in the industry rises through the ranks to become the next C-suite exec of a major airline or fuel producer, that they’ll know exactly who to pick up the phone to tackle a challenge,” said the group in its launch statement.ELSA’s recruits are convening in the belief that, just as with aviation safety, sustainability is a goal that has to transcend competition between companies. “We know that aviation is a difficult sector to decarbonize, and this is something we have to do because the industry isn’t slowing down,” Strang said. “The net-zero target is possible, and it needs to happen.”The organization is led by an executive committee of 12 young professionals that has already established a LinkedIn platform through which participants can connect. It will host online events each quarter and may also host gatherings at industry events such as IATA meetings and major airshows.ELSA’s founders are drawn from Airbus, along with its rival Boeing, as well as from sustainable aviation fuel specialist LanzaJet and airport industry group ACI World. The group is looking to build and share knowledge around technical topics, as well as to support professional development, communications, and leadership skills for individual members.Gen Z and Millennial Professionals Join Forces To Decarbonize Aviation | Aviation International NewsThe audio and content of this podcast shall not be used for AI model training or any other purposes. That’s all for this episode of Aviation Newsletter. http://www.ainonline.com/aviation-news/air-transport/2025-10-03/pressure-mounts-action-drone-disruption-europe1. 75%。Airbus Study Reveals Rising Use of Corporate Jets in Asia | Aviation International News2. FAA Worker Reps Urge Congress To End Shutdown | Aviation International News3.

Aero Asia 2025 Nov 27 to 30 in Zhuhai

1. https://www.ainonline.com/aviation-news/business-aviation/2025-09-05/aero-asia-show-expands-horizons-beyond-general-aviationAero Asia Show Expands Horizons Beyond General AviationSeptember 17,2025The Aero Asia 2025 show, set to be staged in Zhuhai from November 27 to 30, should provide fascinating insights into the state of general aviation in China, but also a glimpse of the country’s fast-emerging low-altitude economy based on expanding applications for drones and eVTOL aircraft. Organizers are expecting that 300 exhibitors from 17 countries will interact with around 60,000 visitors at the Zhuhai International Airshow Center. As of the start of September, the exhibitor list was dominated by Chinese companies, spanning a wide array of OEMs making light aircraft, drones, engines, and components. There will also be some groups from Cambodia, Malaysia, Japan, Korea, and Singapore.Messe Frankfurt and Zhuhai Airshow Group, which organize the biennial show, said they were in the process of confirming more international exhibitors anticipated from countries including Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Malta, the UAE, and the U.S. Despite the ongoing trade tensions between the U.S. and Chinese governments over the Trump Administration’s tariffs, the organizers appear optimistic that this will not diminish American involvement in the event.Anticipated international OEMs among Aero Asia exhibitors include Cessna, Pilatus, Pratt & Whitney Canada, Cirrus, Garmin, and Airbus Helicopters. Leading Chinese eVTOL aircraft developers such as Aerofugia, AutoFlight, EHang, and Volocopter are also set to have products on display in Zhuhai, which is part of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area2.https://www.caac.gov.cn/English/News/202509/t20250911_228594.htmlThe 13th Cross-Taiwan Strait Symposium on Flight Safety and Flight Technology Held in TianjinSeptember 17,2025 From September 16 to 18, 2025, the 13th Cross-Taiwan Strait Symposium on Flight Safety and Flight Technology was held in Tianjin, China. With the theme of "Pooling Cross-Taiwan Strait Wisdom to Lay the Foundation for Aviation Safety, and Studying Flight Technology to Empower Talents", the Symposium gathered over 100 representatives from airlines, universities and associations across the Taiwan Strait to exchange technologies and tighten the bond. Xiong Jie, Chief Pilot of the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), participated the Symposium and delivered a speech. First held in 1998, the Cross-Taiwan Strait Symposium on Flight Safety and Flight Technology represents the earliest-launched, most fruitful and influential exchange platform for the civil aviation industry across the Taiwan Strait. The Symposium of 2025 was co-hosted by Civil Aviation University of China and the Chinese Pilots Association of Taiwan. Participants conducted in-depth discussions and exchanged insights on topics such as "Human Factors and Flight Safety", "Safety Culture and New Technologies", "Flight Decision-Making and Risk Assessment", and "Team Collaboration and Communication Mechanisms". Thirteen pilots, experts and scholars from cross the strait shared their practices and views through thematic presentations. Participants agreed that the civil aviation industries on both sides of the Taiwan Strait are like one family. Flight safety is the common pursuit of the civil aviation industry across the Taiwan Strait. In aviation safety management, both sides have similar practices and explorations in integrating modern management systems with fine traditional Chinese culture. The aviation industries on both sides of the Taiwan Strait should strengthen communication and exchanges, enhance mutual understanding and trust, work together to safeguard the blue sky, jointly ensure flight safety, promote high-quality development of civil aviation, and make greater contributions to improving the well-being of compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.3.https://www.ainonline.com/aviation-news/aerospace/2025-09-16/aerospace-leaders-call-no-barriers-global-summitAerospace Leaders Call for Zero Tariffs at Global SummitSeptember 18,2025America’s aerospace industry is mobilizing to defend the 45-year-old tariff-free trade agreement that executives credit with creating 2.2 million U.S. jobs and billions in trade surpluses. At the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Global Aerospace Summit in Washington, D.C., last week, industry leaders including Guillaume Faury, CEO of Airbus, discussed what’s at stake.“The so-called ‘zero-for-zero,’ the 1979 agreement with no tariffs on aerospace goods, has led to the very successful benefits for all involved,” he said. Faury boasted Airbus’ role in strengthening the U.S. aerospace trade position, particularly with its final assembly lines in Mobile, Alabama, which will be the fourth largest aircraft manufacturing facility in the world: “We contribute to the positive balance of aerospace in the U.S.”The European aerospace leader called the current setup a “North Atlantic ecosystem” that binds the U.S. and European Union together. “If ‘zero-for-zero’ did not get approved, how much would that have put a dampening effect in terms of orders, whether it’s from airlines or leasing companies?” Faury asked rhetorically. “The very strong demand that we see in the market…would’ve had a negative impact on the cost base, on the efficiency of what we do. We would have continued to do the same, but what we have now is much more effective.”4.https://www.ainonline.com/aviation-news/business-aviation/2025-09-10/easa-clears-falcon-6x-enhanced-vision-operationsEASA OKs Falcon 6X for Enhanced Flight Vision System OpsSeptember 10,2025EASA has approved Dassault’s Falcon 6X for enhanced flight vision system (EFVS) operations based on the manufacturer’s FalconEye head-up display (HUD) technology. The FalconEye combined vision system was developed to improve situational awareness for pilots making lower-altitude approaches in all weather conditions, day or night, making runway obstacles visible through fog and mist. The European air safety regulator added the amendment to the large-cabin jet’s type certificate on September 3, allowing operations down to 100 feet above the threshold on Cat 1 approaches using localizer performance with vertical guidance and barometric vertical navigation. Nonprecision continuous descent final approach techniques are also now permitted.Initially, the EFVS approval covers a single HUD configuration. In the near future, Dassault said it aims to achieve authorization for a dual HUD setup in which both pilots benefit from the same synthetic vision inputs based on a combination of terrain and infrastructure information from a database, and infrared and low-light camera imagery.Meanwhile, on September 5, Swiss private aviation group Albinati Aeronautics flew the first Falcon 6X into Cannes Mandelieu Airport (LFMD) in the south of France. The operator has worked with Dassault and local authorities to get approval for movements, taking into account the airport’s 5,282-foot runway, geography, and noise restrictions.5.https://www.ainonline.com/aviation-news/business-aviation/2025-09-08/business-aircraft-activity-heats-globally-augustBusiness Aircraft Activity Heats Up Globally in AugustSeptember 8,2025Business aircraft flight activity in North America logged its highest year-over-year (YOY) gain of 2025 thus far in August, up by 4.4% as global activity increased overall by 3.7%, according to Argus International’s latest TraqPak report.  Flight activity in Europe, meanwhile, marked its fourth positive month in a row, up by 1.9%."August was definitely a pleasant surprise for us,” said Travis Kuhn, Argus senior v-p of software. “We expected activity to gain, but demand outpaced our forecast yet again, and that's a problem we'll gladly accept. Positive Part 91 activity continues to contribute to the 2025 uptick in activity, coupled with a stable Part 135 market and a robust fractional market. Globally speaking, Europe finished out a positive summer after a few years of consistent declines."Argus predicts the YOY increase will continue in September at a more muted pace of 2.1% in North America and a slightly heated clip in Europe at 2.9%.Activity in North America was expected to increase by 2.0% in August, Argus noted. The continued strengthening comes as fractional operations continued to surge, with a 12.5% YOY gain. Part 135 operators flew 3.7% more YOY in August and Part 91 by 1.7%.Midsize jet utilization saw the largest increase in the month of 5.4% more activity, but the fellow jet categories of small and large cabins were closely on the heels, up 5.3% and 5.2%, respectively.  Turboprop activity increased by 2.2% in August. Large-cabin fractional operations posted the single largest improvement of 24.7%.In Europe, large-cabin-jet activity took a significant jump upward YOY in August, by 6.9%, while small-cabin activity increased by 1.1% and midsize jets by 0.6%. These offset the 2.6% decline in turboprop flights. As for the rest of the world, overall activity improved by 2.5%, with small-cabin flights surged by18.8%, followed by large cabin activity at 8.5% and midsize at 8%. Similar to the pattern in Europe, turboprop operations were on the decline in other parts of the world, with activity dropping by 5.6%.The audio and content of this podcast shall not be used for AI model training or any other purposes. That’s all for this episode of Aviation Newsletter. Among the top 10 domestic popular destinations, Beijing ranked first, while Chengdu and Kunming recorded over 6% year-on-year passenger growth. Meanwhile, demand for “summer resort travel” rose—cities with cool climates like Urumqi, Xining, Shenyang and Harbin became emerging hot spots, with notable year-on-year passenger increases. In terms of passenger structure, middle-aged and young people remained the main travelers, while primary and middle school students and people over 60 became new growth drivers, with their travel numbers rising sharply. As summer ended, Mid-Autumn & National Day bookings started. By August 28, domestic ticket bookings exceeded 1.76 million, with a 24% year-on-year daily average growth; inbound-outbound bookings surpassed 940,000, up 19% year-on-year, showing steady recovery in international travel demand. The top 10 domestic destinations are Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Shenzhen, Kunming, Urumqi, Xi’an, Hangzhou and Nanjing.新闻3:https://www.cannews.com.cn/chanye/2025/08-29/9k62ANgk.htmlIATA Proposes Raising Retirement Age of International Commercial Pilots to 67August 29, 2025According to foreign media reports on August 27, the IATA has requested the United Nations’ ICAO to raise the retirement age of international commercial pilots from 65 to 67. IATA stated that the reason for this proposal is that global air travel demand has exceeded the supply of pilots, leading to a shortage.ICAO will review the proposal at its general assembly on September 23, but major U.S. pilots’ unions have opposed it due to safety concerns. Current international rules ban pilots over 65 from flying international flights, and many countries including the U.S. apply this rule to domestic routes. Representing about 350 airlines, IATA said raising the age by two years is “safe and reasonable”—each flight must have two pilots, and if one is over 65, the other must be under 65. Notably, IATA raised the retirement age from 60 to 65 in 2006. Dennis Tajer, spokesman for the Allied Pilots Association (APA), said there is insufficient data to assess the risks of the age hike.新闻4:https://www.ainonline.com/aviation-news/aerospace/2025-08-29/embry-riddle-enhances-aviation-radio-comms-aiEmbry-Riddle Enhances Aviation Radio Comms with AISeptember 2, 2025Researchers at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University have developed an AI system for transcribing and translating aviation radio communications. This technology addresses long-standing issues for pilots and air traffic controllers, such as unclear transmissions and non-standard use of aviation-specific jargon. The system combines automatic speech recognition and natural language processing to convert radio voice into standardized text. It optimizes communications by standardizing terms, formatting flight call signs and numbers, removing filler words, and identifying errors in pilot-controller exchanges. Led by Andrew Schneider and Jianhua Liu, the project received a $30,000 grant from Embry-Riddle’s Boeing Center. Initial tests using 12 U.S. airports’ recordings had an 80% word error rate; Liu’s signal processing reduced it to below 15%, leading NASA to adopt it for extracting cockpit comms from noisy audio. Future uses include real-time aircraft system integration and feedback for student pilots.新闻5:https://avbrief.com/atc-instructor-shortage-hits-faa-academy/?utm_source=newsletter-20&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=newsletterATC Instructor Shortage Hits FAA AcademySeptember 2, 2025While the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) continues to tackle the ongoing challenge of hiring and staffing air traffic controllers (ATC), it now faces an ironic new issue: a shortage of qualified instructors. According to Bloomberg, the FAA has stepped up recruitment efforts to urgently fill more than 3,900 vacancies at air traffic control towers and centers across the country. However, the number of instructors at the FAA Academy in Oklahoma City has failed to keep up with demand.Various media reports show that in July, the number of trainees at the academy swelled to around 550, forcing 42 instructors to work double shifts to keep up with the workload. By contrast, the Independent noted that only six instructors were working double shifts back in March. Some instructors apparently welcomed the double shifts for the extra pay, but one instructor told Bloomberg that the grueling schedule left some colleagues “walking around like zombies.”Instructors on double shifts often don’t get to sleep until the wee hours, yet have to wake up by 5 a.m. to prepare for the first classes at 7 a.m. Nearly all of these instructors are former air traffic controllers who have retired, and most are in their 60s. They recently signed a new labor contract, earning $46 per hour. Importantly, most of them do not work directly for the FAA—instead, they are employed by the contractor Science Applications International Corp.新闻6:https://www.eaa.org/eaa/news-and-publications/eaa-news-and-aviation-news/workingnewsarticles/2025-07-22-mosaic-is-doneMOSAIC Is Done!July 22, 2025MOSAIC (Modernization of Special Airworthiness Certification) has been finalized. After more than a decade of efforts by the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA), the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and many other parties, MOSAIC is now a final rule. U.S. Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy announced this rule on Tuesday afternoon at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2025. A generation after the original sport pilot and light-sport aircraft (LSA) rules were created, today marks the celebration of “Sport Pilot 2.0” and “LSA 2.0”.In 90 days, approximately three-quarters of the general aviation fleet will be accessible to sport pilots and those with sport pilot privileges. In one year, new and modern aircraft will start entering the fleet with much lower certification costs. Building on the original sport pilot rule, MOSAIC greatly expands the range of aircraft that fit the LSA definition—removing the long-standing maximum takeoff weight limit of 1,320 pounds for powered landplanes, and replacing it with a new primary limitation: a “clean” stall speed (VS1) of 59 knots calibrated airspeed. Now, aircraft with up to four seats are allowed (though sport pilots can still carry only one passenger), and sport pilots can fly aircraft with controllable-pitch propellers and retractable landing gear after receiving proper training and endorsements. The rule also includes aircraft certification reform: by using industry consensus standards, LSA 2.0 cuts certification costs significantly for qualifying aircraft, leaving more room for innovation. More details on the final MOSAIC rule will be in the September 2025 issue of EAA Sport Aviation, and the full rule is available at EAA.org/MOSAIC.That’s all for this episode of Aviation Newsletter. According to ICCS, one of the country’s largest FBO operators, early estimates call for 4 million visitors to the country during the course of the event, which will last for more than a month. That will cause congested runways at the host city airports, potential slot limitations at major international airports, and reduced availability of ground handling, fueling, and ramp space. For private aircraft operators, planning should start now by contacting providers to discuss handling and parking coordination; coordinating services such as hotels, catering, ground transport, and security; and identifying alternate and overflow airports. Since Mexico has long permit processing times, operators should begin the application process as soon as possible. In December, the final tournament schedule will be announced, and airport authorities are expected to issue slot rules and airport procedures.ICCS will provide services at all three host cities, with a new FBO scheduled to be operational at Toluca International Airport (MMTO)—the primary general aviation gateway to Mexico City—in advance of the tournament.“The 2026 FIFA World Cup represents the most significant operational challenge in Mexico’s business aviation history,” said ICCS CEO Nelson Dumas. “With our expanded facilities, unmatched ramp capacity, and 31 years of proven expertise, we will ensure that every operator, passenger, and crewmember is met with world-class service during this global event.”2026 FIFA World Cup To Draw “Unprecedented” Crowds to Mexico | Aviation International News2. Airbus Helicopters Marks First H160 Delivery in ChinaBy CHARLES ALCOCK • Managing EditorAugust 13, 2025General aviation services group GDAT is set to start operating the Airbus H160 helicopter in China after taking delivery of its first aircraft in that country on Tuesday. The company ordered 50 examples of the utility-twin model in April 2023 and has since taken delivery of five other aircraft from this batch for operations outside China. The H160 delivered this week will mainly be used to support energy sector customers. Flights will include transportation to offshore oil and gas platforms, as well for trips to wind farms, harbor piloting, emergency medical, and public service missions.Since Airbus began deliveries of the H160 in December 2021, the model has entered service for a variety of applications, including law enforcement, search and rescue, and passenger transportation. Other operators are based in France, Brazil, Canada, Japan, Malaysia, the U.S., Saudi Arabia, the Philippines, and the UK.“We are proud to be the first to receive the brand-new H160 in China,” said GDAT chairman Peter Jiang. “The introduction of this aircraft continues GDAT’s long-term commitment to providing state-of-the-art helicopter technology to both the Chinese market and those around the world, and underlines our commitment to the safety, quality, and efficiency of our operations.”Last month, Airbus started flight testing a military version of the H160 that has been ordered by France’s armed forces.Airbus Helicopters Marks First H160 Delivery in China to Operator GDAT | Aviation International News3. ICAO Flags Safety Risks as Traffic Sets RecordBy AMY WILDER • WriterAugust 12, 2025Global aviation safety trends remain positive over the long term, but the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) warns that accident and fatality rates rose in 2024 from the previous year despite record-breaking traffic volumes. The agency’s 2025 Edition Safety Report – State of Global Aviation Safety recorded 95 accidents involving scheduled commercial flights worldwide, up from 66 in 2023. Ten of those were fatal, resulting in 296 deaths—more than quadruple the 72 fatalities reported the previous year. The global accident rate climbed to 2.56 per million departures, compared with 1.87 in 2023, even as the industry handled more than 37 million departures worldwide. ICAO Secretary General Juan Carlos Salazar said aviation remains the safest form of transport, but stressed the need for continuous improvement. ICAO Council president Salvatore Sciacchitano called the 2024 data “a tragic and timely reminder” of the importance of collective action toward the goal of zero fatalities.Four high-risk categories—controlled flight into terrain, loss of control in flight, midair collisions, and runway incursions—accounted for 25% of fatalities and 40% of fatal accidents. ICAO also reported that turbulence was responsible for nearly three-quarters of all serious injuries in 2024, a trend it linked to increasing weather-related hazards. To address these issues, ICAO is advancing global runway safety action plans, developing enhanced real-time turbulence monitoring systems, and issuing updated guidance to mitigate Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) spoofing and jamming. The agency is also expanding data-driven approaches to accident, incident, and wildlife strike reporting, and promoting enhanced civil-military cooperation to reduce conflict-related risks.Looking ahead, ICAO is preparing safety frameworks for integrating uncrewed aircraft systems and advanced air mobility into traditional airspace. Regional analysis showed the Asia-Pacific and Europe/North Atlantic regions each had three fatal accidents in 2024, while South America recorded one fatal accident with 62 deaths. Asia-Pacific had the highest overall fatality count, followed by South America and Europe/North Atlantic. The 2025 report also highlights ICAO’s 80th anniversary and its continued role in leading the international alignment of technical standards and safety strategies for its 193 member states.ICAO Safety Report Urges Global Action as Traffic Hits Record Levels | Aviation International News4. Singapore To Institute Pre-arrival Security ClearanceBy CURT EPSTEIN • Business Aviation Services EditorAugust 12, 2025In an effort to enhance its border security and preemptively screen inbound passengers, Singapore will introduce a No Boarding Directive (NBD) starting early next year. According to Singapore’s Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA), the policy will “instruct transport operators to deny boarding to travelers deemed high-risk or otherwise undesirable, even before they arrive at immigration checkpoints.”Universal Weather & Aviation noted that the NBD will integrate with the existing Advance Passenger Information process, which operators must complete before departure. After submitting their data to the ICA, they will receive either an “OK to Board” or “Do Not Board” response for each person on the flight. In the case of the latter, the offending individual must be offloaded from the aircraft before departure. All flights headed to Singapore must have all passengers and crew cleared, with a possible penalty of SGD 2,000 (about $1,555) per violation. Universal Aviation Singapore added that ICA may request additional documentation or confirmation, such as an SG Arrival Card completion.ICA explained that its checkpoint modernization program—which uses features such as passport-less and QR-based clearance, automation, and biometric systems—has significantly improved security and efficiency. Since the beginning of the year, the authority stated that entry refusals have increased by 43% and contraband detection has risen by 28% as a result of additional profiling and detection capabilities.Singapore To Institute Enhanced Pre-arrival Security Clearance | Aviation International NewsThat’s all for this episode of Aviation Newsletter.

Joby Stock Spikes and more

https://www.investors.com/news/joby-stock-joby-aviation-robotaxi-production-doubled-evtol/1.Joby Stock Spikes, eVTOL Maker To Double Air Taxi Production7 July 2025Joby stock continued its rally into Thursday after the electric air taxi maker on Tuesday announced plans to expand operations. Fellow eVTOL maker Archer Aviation is surging. Defense contractor Karman Holdings (KRMN) also scrambled higher.Santa Cruz, Calif.-based Joby Aviation (JOBY) on Tuesday said it would build out its Monterey Bay facility in Marina, California, which will enable it to double aircraft production capacity at the location. The expanded site will span 435,500 square feet, helping the 16-year-old company to scale up its commercial operations. In addition, Joby is ramping up operations at its newly-renovated facility in Dayton, Ohio, to manufacture and test aircraft components. Joby said it also expanded its test flight program and is adding a new aircraft to its fleet. The opening of the new manufacturing space is a key step for Joby as the company prepares to scale production and enter the market.Once operational, Joby expects the Marina site to be able to produce up to 24 aircraft per year."Reimagining urban mobility takes speed, scale and precision manufacturing,"  Eric Allison, chief product officer, said in the news release. "Our expanded manufacturing footprint in both California and Ohio is preparing us to do just that."Hong Kong Opens Skies to Higher-Payload Drones: Drives Low Altitude Economy Growth2.Hong Kong Opens Skies to Higher-Payload Drones: Drives Low Altitude Economy Growth31 July 2025Hong Kong has taken a major step toward establishing itself as a leading hub for the low-altitude economy (LAE) by introducing new regulations that allow drones to carry significantly heavier payloads. The Small Unmanned Aircraft (Amendment) Order 2025, which took effect on July 18, 2025, extends the regulatory framework to cover drones weighing up to 150 kilograms, a six-fold increase from the previous 25-kilogram limit. The regulatory expansion represents Hong Kong's most significant aviation policy reform in years. The new Category C aircraft classification covers drones weighing between 25 and 150 kilograms, requiring operators to obtain prior approval from the Civil Aviation Department (CAD) and maintain appropriate insurance coverage. For drones weighing 25-75 kilograms, operators must secure HK$15 million in insurance, while heavier aircraft require HK$20 million coverage.Deputy Financial Secretary Michael Wong highlighted the strategic importance of these changes: "Amendments to local laws and regulations to promote the development of the low-altitude economy are in the works. One of the key points of the amended laws would be to allow higher payloads, which would result in more such drones being allowed to operate".The legislation also includes provisions for cross-boundary operations and establishes data retention requirements to support regulatory enforcement. Complementing these changes, the Air Navigation (Hong Kong) Order 1995 (Amendment) Order 2025 empowers the Chief Executive to permit trials of unconventional aircraft under specified conditions.https://nypost.com/2025/07/31/lifestyle/virgin-australia-wins-approval-to-carry-pets-on-flights3.Australian airline wins approval to carry pets on flights — behind all the cuddly details31 July 2025In an Australian first your flight is set to soon become a little bit furrier with the regulatory green light flashing to bring one small pet dog or cat on Virgin Australia domestic flights.A previous regulatory loophole that classed airplanes as restaurants, prohibited food and drink from being served when pet cats and dogs were present in the cabin. However last month Food Standards Australia and New Zealand (FSANZ) approved Virgin’s amendment to allow for pets.“We assessed the microbiological food safety risks and found that, with appropriate risk management controls in place, the presence of pet cats and dogs in aircraft cabins presents a low risk to passengers,” a FSANZ statement read.“The amendment to the Code gives airlines operating in Australia and serving food in-flight the discretion to allow pet cats and dogs in aircraft cabins, provided all relevant food safety requirements are met.”The service is expected to launch by the end of this year. Two rows will be designated on select flights for flyers traveling with pets.Pets will be required to fit within a pet carrier which with the pet in it must weigh less than 17.6 pounds and fit under the plane seat in front.A Virgin spokesperson said they were “excited to have reached an important milestone” in the journey to offering pets in-cabin service.4.Textron eAviation Confirms Pause in Manned eVTOL Program2 August 2025As the first certified electric aircraft manufacturer—Pipistrel Velis Electro—Textron eAviation is reallocating resources to bring new aircraft to market, refine existing models, while pausing progress on its eVTOL program. The Nexus eVTOL, a four-seat, single-pilot aircraft designed for a range of up to 100 miles, was expected to achieve its first tethered flight this year. However, development at the Wichita-based Glass House facility has slowed. It has been confirmed that the Nexus will not undergo flight testing this year, and engineers in Wichita have been reassigned to three other major projects. These include the piston-engine Pipistrel Panthera and its EASA CS-23 certification program; the unmanned, multirole Pipistrel Nuuva V300 hybrid-electric cargo drone; and the integration of Amazilia Aerospace, a German fly-by-wire flight control systems manufacturer acquired by Textron eAviation in 2024, now rebranded as Textron eAviation GmbH.The Panthera is a high-performance, gasoline-powered single-engine aircraft capable of cruising at 190 knots while burning 11 gallons per hour. Once the Panthera secures EASA CS-23 certification, plans call for concurrent FAA validation. As part of Textron eAviation's ongoing development of next-generation passenger aircraft, the company continues to explore alternative technical variants of the Nexus eVTOL to ensure alignment with customer needs and evolving market dynamics. The Nuuva V300 multirole drone is also a key focus. Textron eAviation is leveraging its German fly-by-wire assets to support both the Nuuva program and Pipistrel’s Surveyor special-mission platform. The company aims to vertically integrate and become its own fly-by-wire (flight control) supplier. In June, it delivered an aircraft equipped with this system to Aviatek, a Latin American special-mission service provider and systems integrator. A second aircraft is now under development and will also feature this system.  For any aircraft manufacturer, resource allocation is critical—a key factor in the slowdown of the Nexus program. With approximately 500 employees, a significant portion of whom are engineers, Textron eAviation must strategically deploy its talent to bring aircraft to market as efficiently as possible.  Regarding Nexus, battery technology continues to evolve. From eAviation’s perspective, the goal is to introduce a multi-mission-capable aircraft rather than a short-term urban air mobility (UAM) product. Assessing current battery capabilities and ongoing projects, the company has taken a step back to focus on defining the right product. This has led to increased trade studies in hybrid-electric solutions, alongside support for other active programs like the Panthera and Nuuva. While eAviation remains invested in eVTOL development, it is prioritizing a multi-mission platform approach rather than a niche UAM solution.  Textron’s vision has never been solely centered on the urban air mobility market. Instead, the focus is on developing Textron Aviation or Bell products that meet customer mission requirements in terms of range and payload.  Although the Velis Electro has limited endurance, as a Textron eAviation product, it continues to undergo improvements. Meanwhile, since its first flight in January, the Nuuva V300 has begun performing flight maneuvers, including heading transitions and return-to-point operations, while expanding its hover envelope. A second prototype is under construction, equipped with its own fly-by-wire system and an internal combustion engine (ICE) to enable wingborne transition flight.  The Nuuva mission set includes three primary use cases: Commercial logistics (e.g., last-mile delivery) ,Special missions and Disaster relief. The ICE enables a hybrid-electric propulsion system with eight electric motor. Textron eAviation continues refining the aircraft to accommodate more powerful engines and battery configurations. That’s all for this episode of Aviation Newsletter.

国防承包商Karman Holdings(KRMN)股价也快速攀升。

Passengers are now prohibited from carrying power banks on domestic flights if they lack a clear China Compulsory Certification (CCC) mark, if the mark is illegible, or if the power bank belongs to a recalled model or batch. What is CCC?The China Compulsory Certification (CCC) is a mandatory market access system implemented by the Chinese government to protect consumer safety, national security, and the environment. According to national regulations, all legally marketed power banks must obtain CCC certification. How to Identify a Genuine CCC Mark:When viewed under direct light, the CCC mark should have a white background with a black pattern. When looking directly at the mark, the diamond-shaped CCC logo should appear three-dimensional and realistic. If the mark appears flat or lacks depth, it is likely counterfeit.Capacity Restrictions for Air Travel:In addition to having a valid CCC mark, power banks must also comply with capacity limitations outlined in the CAAC's "Notice on the Carriage of Power Banks by Air Passengers":Power banks must be carried in carry-on baggage only. They are strictly prohibited in checked baggage. Power banks with a rated energy not exceeding 100Wh do not require airline approval. Power banks with a rated energy exceeding 100Wh but not exceeding 160Wh may be carried only with prior airline approval, and each passenger is limited to a maximum of two such power banks. Power banks with a rated energy exceeding 160Wh are strictly prohibited. Power banks without a clearly marked rated energy, or whose rated energy cannot be calculated from other marked parameters, are also prohibited.Important Reminders:Passengers are not allowed to use power banks to charge electronic devices during flight. Power banks equipped with an on/off switch must remain turned off throughout the entire flight. 注意几个关键词_新闻频道_央视网(cctv.com)2.French Controllers Strike Disrupts Traffic at Multiple AirportsBy Charles Alcock • Managing Editor July 3, 2025A two-day strike by some French air traffic controllers on Thursday and Friday has caused the cancellation of at least 40% of flights to and from the country’s airports. France’s DGAC aviation safety agency ordered a reduction in movements at Paris-area airports, including the business aviation hub at Le Bourget (LFPB), and traffic has also been severely disrupted in Nice, Lyon, Marseille and Montpellier.Only 270 of around 1,400 French controllers joined the work stoppage. According to the UNSA-ICNA and USAC-CGT trade unions, the action has been taken to protest against what they say are unacceptable working conditions and understaffing. France’s transport minister Philippe Tabarot condemned the strike, which has disrupted the start of the country’s summer vacation season, as well as causing wider problems for airlines operating in other parts of Europe.According to the ground-handling team at ExecuJet's FBO at LFPB, there were no movements at the facility on either strike day, with 22 customer flights canceled. The company said operations resumed on Saturday.Signature Aviation confirmed that French authorities instructed that all nonscheduled "public air transport" flights using aircraft with less than 19 seats or with an mtow(Maximum Take-Off Weight) less than 22,000 pounds should not operate in the Paris terminal maneuvering area. A notam issued as the strike action started also instructed operators to cancel all private flights, with the exception of those associated with medical emergencies, search and rescue, firefighting, and other government missions. The striking controllers were based at air traffic management facilities in Marseille, Brest, and Reims. Hundreds of scheduled flights were cancelled by operators, resulting in passengers being stranded at airports and facing long delays.French Controllers Strike Disrupts Flights at Multiple Airports | Aviation International News3.Bizjet Accident Fatalities Soar in First Half of 2025By Gordon Gilbert • Contributor - Accidents and Regulations July 3, 202518 fatal turbine business aircraft accidents worldwide claimed the lives of 81 passengers and crew in the first half, up from 17 fatal accidents and 54 fatalities in the first six months of 2024, according to preliminary data gathered by AIN.Notably, U.S.-registered business jets made up the only segment to complete the first six months with fewer fatalities than in the same period last year. Nine people lost their lives in three U.S.-registered business jet accidents last year versus eight people who died—also in three accidents—this year.On February 10, a parked Gulfstream G200 was struck by a U.S.-registered Learjet 35A that veered off the runway while landing in Scottsdale, Arizona, killing the Learjet pilot. Another fatal accident involving an N-numbered business jet occurred on March 13, when a Cessna Citation CJ2 on a planned ferry flight made a right turn and climbed to about 950 feet after takeoff before it began a rapid descent into the ground. The sole pilot aboard died. On May 22, a Citation S550 was destroyed when it crashed on an approach near San Diego. The pilot and five passengers were killed. All three accidents occurred under Part 91.Four accidents of non-U.S.-registered business jets took the lives of 15 in the first half, compared with a single crash that was fatal to two people in the same period of 2024. On Jan. 9, 2025, a privately operated, Brazilian-registered CitationJet CJ1+ overshot the runway on landing, broke up, and caught fire, resulting in the loss of the pilot’s life. On January 29, a Venezuelan government-operated Citation S/II crashed shortly after takeoff, killing all three occupants. Two pilots and four passengers died on January 31, when a chartered Mexico-registered Learjet 55 air ambulance crashed shortly after takeoff from a Philadelphia airport on a planned flight to Mexico. In addition to the six fatalities aboard the twinjet, one person on the ground was killed. On June 3, a Venezuela-registered Citation I crashed in the mountains after taking off from Caracas, killing all five aboard.Five fatal accidents of U.S.-registered business turboprops resulted in 18 deaths in the first half, compared with seven deaths in four accidents in the same period last year. Meanwhile, half of the 40 fatalities from six accidents involving non-N-numbered business turboprops in the first six months included the 20 who died when their chartered Ugandan-registered Beech 1900D crashed in South Sudan.Business Jet Accident Fatalities Soar in First Half of 2025 | Aviation International News4.ICAO and UAE Offer $1M to Students Researching SAFBy Curt Epstein • Business Aviation Services Editor July 1, 2025A contest to award college students for their research to accelerate the development and adoption of sustainable aviation fuel is being sponsored by ICAO and the UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority.Open to undergraduate and postgraduate researchers, the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Aviation Award will award $1 million in prize money based on research conducted from 2022 through 2024.
