Epic has become an overly used word to describe pretty much everything.  But there are still instances where the word applies.  In the outdoor world, for instance, an Epic is when a backcountry trip goes awry and a safe return becomes uncertain.  A Backyard Epic is when this happens on a smaller scale. Something definitely went wrong, but you probably still made it home that same day.
