60: PERMA Audit

Last week on the podcast, we discussed the PERMA Framework and how each letter represents an essential element of well-being. Today, I've got something special for you – a fantastic activity to ponder on your well-being journey! Summer's in full swing, and it's the perfect time to do a little self-audit. Take a moment to think about how you're feeling, what's making you tick, and what areas of the PERMA Framework could use a little boost right now. This simple exercise can work wonders for your happiness and sense of purpose. So go ahead, give it a shot! Take time to reflect and see what aspects could use some love and attention. Summer is a perfect time to reset and try something new while basking in the sunshine. In my quest for happiness and well-being, I’ve turned to Dr. Laurie Santos, a Yale psychology professor who created a renowned happiness course alongside Martin Seligman's PERMA Framework to help define well-being. Finding purpose and meaning in life is vital for our happiness. Our work-life connection greatly impacts our overall well-being, too. So, let's make this summer a time of growth and positive change, embracing the PERMA framework and finding more meaning and purpose in our lives. It is summer and summer is officially one of my favorite seasons because there's a lot of flexibility in schedules, people have fun plans,  they're taking vacations and getting rejuvenated and refreshed, ready to come back to work – and you may have noticed, we paused for a little bit on the Coffee on Leadership podcast. I'm gonna be honest, I was super behind, because it has been a very full season for me. But it's also summer and that makes it difficult to really want to sit down and leverage learning content. It's also difficult as a learner and as a leader to find time in your schedule for development. So here's what I'm doing: a summer series is coming your way that will have those short and sweet episodes meant to be quickly listened to and integrated into your day. Several weeks ago on the podcast, we discussed the impact player and how to identify these leaders in your organization so you can effectively care for them. Today, I am sharing with you an excellent example of how a person can make a big difference with one tiny decision for their team. It is actually about my husband, Chadwick, who demonstrated leadership by taking on a task usually assigned to a production assistant. It is all about the significance of small acts of service, paying attention to your team’s needs, and finding ways to lighten the load. I hope this story will challenge you to be an impact player who steps in and sees an opportunity to make things light within your own organization.  -- Visit this episode's blog post here. In the world of leadership, success is frequently attributed to luck. But is luck just a matter of chance? In this podcast episode, we explore the significance of strategic planning, resource allocation, and proactive leadership in shaping your own luck. Why leave everything to chance when you can architect your path to success? Embrace the power of strategic planning, welcome change, and pave the way to achieve your desired outcomes. Last week on the podcast, we discussed the difference makers - the people who are always on top of the list when we need somebody who can get things done and lead us well. But they often tend to be perfectionists, which leads to putting all the weight on their shoulders for their team's success. So I want to dive deeper into this topic by analyzing Liz Wiseman's research that explores the idea of creating an environment that embraces mistakes and failures as opportunities for growth. Leaders need to understand the significance of embracing mistakes and failures as catalysts for personal and team development. Tune in for more insights! -- Visit this episode's blog post here. We've been talking about meaningfulness and purpose as a way to retain and engage employees the past few episodes. And I've talked about it from the perspective of these are questions that you can be asking yourself or a colleague or a friend to be thinking about the ways that you show up in your work with purpose and connection to your deeper core values. But I now want to shift this conversation a bit, I want to turn back and focus for a minute on the leader – how might they be feeling during a busy season at work when they're feeling burnt out? What's happening behind the scenes for them when they're super driven by purpose, but they're also super tired? Today I want to share how to identify these leaders in your organization so you can effectively care for them.  Visit this episode's blog post here.Connect with Chaili on Instagram: @coffeeonleadership_ Coffee on Leadership is produced and managed by Heart Centered Podcasting.
Last week on the podcast, we discussed the significance of a leader who sits down with people to talk through passion, purpose, and meaningfulness in their work. Leaders who take the time to connect with their employees and understand their motivations can create a more meaningful work experience, leading to more productive and passionate employees who engage more deeply with their work and stay within the organization. In today's episode, I am bringing you a quick toolkit with ten essential questions you can ask your employee or co-worker. Pick one or a few that resonate the most and start peeling off the layers of their work to learn why they do what they do. Let’s get into it! Let's talk about the importance of helping your teams understand how to be more connected to their purpose in their work. I recently looked at a study by McKinsey & Co. that was talking about how to attract and retain talent and the driving factors and motivators in leaving a company or staying in order to attract and retain talent at our organizations (because it goes way deeper than how much money someone makes). What I noticed right off the bat, employee experience is driven by meaningfulness of the work. So I want to dive into that today – how to cultivate purpose for your employees, plus other factors that should be on your radar. Several weeks ago on the podcast we discussed six book recommendations for emotionally intelligent leaders. So, on today’s episode of Coffee on Leadership, I wanted to dive deeper into one of my favorites - The Infinite Game by the one and only Simon Sinek. Of course, you already know I am a big Simon Sinek fan, and I often reference his work. In this book, Sinek talks about the importance of embracing an infinite mindset when it comes to leadership and business strategy. This book provides so much perspective on what it means to be a leader in today's world. A good leader can positively impact their teams, who then, in turn, learn and continue that cycle to change the world around them. I hope this episode will inspire you to go to your nearest bookstore, grab your favorite cup of coffee, and enjoy this gem. Let me know if you do so, and shoot me a DM with some of your favorite takeaways from the book; I will be glad to discuss them with you.
