Welcome back to episode 258 of the Ecommerce Society Podcast! After a little break (which feels so odd for me), I’m sharing some big life updates that have been in the works. For over four years, I’ve been pouring everything into my business, and now I’m stepping away from some things to explore new passions. Tune in to hear why I’m closing some chapters—like my coaching programs and membership—and diving headfirst into exciting new ventures, like my product business and, yes, a 9-to-5!
I get into how burnout post-book launch in 2023 set me on this path and how starting my dog poop bag business made me realize I’m ready for a fresh adventure. I also reflect on why it’s important to embrace change, the value of businesses as stepping stones, and what’s next for me.
In this episode, I share:
Why I’m stepping away from coaching and memberships.
The burnout that hit after launching my book, Customer Obsession.
Starting a 9-to-5 and how it’s giving me new energy.
The fun and excitement of working on my new product-based business.
My thoughts on pivoting and how businesses are stepping stones for your next adventure.
A possible future direction for the podcast and how I want to feature more brand case studies.
Episode Highlights:
(00:01) Catching up after my break and why I’m stepping back.
(02:21) Why I decided to close my coaching programs and memberships.
(04:39) Burnout post-book launch and how it shaped my decision.
(06:53) Starting the dog poop bag business and rediscovering my passion.
(09:19) Where the podcast might be headed next: more brand case studies, fewer business tips.
(11:39) Why I’ve paused the Just Add Hot Sauce newsletter (for now!).
(14:04) My thoughts on balancing a 9-to-5 with running a side business.
(16:27) Reflecting on the past few years and how each step has led to new opportunities.
Listener Shout-Out: Thank you to everyone who’s been with me over the years, from listening to the podcast, to joining my programs, and reading Customer Obsession. You’ve been part of this journey, and I’m so grateful for your support!

In this episode, I share my struggles and internal battles as I start my second product-based business. I discuss the pressure to make everything perfect, the challenge of overthinking every decision, the fear of failure, and the difficulty of managing multiple businesses simultaneously. I emphasize the importance of taking action and making smart business decisions based on data and customer preferences.
Takeaways
Starting a second product-based business is not necessarily easier than the first, and it comes with its own set of challenges.
Perfectionism can hold you back from taking action and launching your business. It's important to find a balance between striving for quality and progress.
Overthinking every decision can hinder your progress and waste valuable time. Focus on making smart business decisions based on data and customer preferences.
Managing multiple businesses simultaneously can be overwhelming and lead to burnout. Prioritize and allocate your time and resources effectively.
It's normal to have fears and doubts when starting a new business, but it's important to push through and take action. Starting a business is challenging and can lead to self-doubt and overthinking decisions.
It's important to make data-driven decisions based on what customers actually buy, rather than what they say they like.
Finding a balance between being scrappy and wanting things to be perfect can be difficult.
Transparency in the entrepreneurial space can help others feel less alone in their struggles.
