Welcome to our Meet the Investors series! In this episode, we're thrilled to introduce you to Sami Niemi, a tech enthusiast, visionary investor, and co-founder of Scalado, a trailblazing mobile imaging software company.
Sami's journey in the tech world started with a fascination for the capabilities of computers to express things visually. This early passion, which began with coding demos on a Commodore 64, eventually led to the establishment of Scalado in 2000.
Scalado rapidly became a global leader in mobile imaging software, with more than 1 billion licenses sold worldwide. Sami's innovative vision and relentless commitment to customer understanding and engagement ensured Scalado’s software and Intellectual Property Rights were licensed by leading smartphone companies and ASIC firms.
In 2012, Scalado's impressive journey culminated in its successful acquisition by Nokia, which was later acquired by Microsoft. At Microsoft, Sami held the global role of Director of Photography in the Windows group until 2016.
However, Sami's entrepreneurial spirit continued to blaze a trail in the tech industry. He has been involved with Spintop since its early days, first as an investor and later as a senior advisor and member of the investment committee, before eventually becoming a partner.
Sami is also a co-founder of The Ground, a creative startup workspace located in Malmö, Sweden. With a deep understanding of trending technologies like AR/VR, AI/ML, blockchain, and crypto, Sami brings a unique perspective to the tech landscape.
As an investor in PinMeTo, Sami is passionate about simplifying products to enhance user experience and believes in thinking beyond established norms to uncover better ways of doing things. He is highly focused on helping portfolio companies establish a strong sense of purpose and a set of core values to guide their operations.
