The Whole Nine Yards Episode 155 With Roy Stannard On Mid Sussex Radio 103.8FM Sunday 14th January 2024 3-5pm www.midsussexradio.co.uk/listen Sky High Sky high or Sky fall? The sky can prompt a wide range of feelings and moods. The brilliance of a clear day - to the sombre tones of an overcast one, is a mirror of the kaleidoscope of human nature. Music inspired by a stormy sky can sound like turmoil or conflict, using dynamic and dissonant elements to convey tension. On the other hand, a composition inspired by a serene, open sky might sound peaceful and harmonious. A lullaby rather than a hullabaloo.. This week, we explore both sides of the musical sky.. A blend of vernacular jazz, tap, ballet, West Indies and African dance traditions, these UK jazz dancers blew holes in the dancefloor with their intricate footwork, hipster tricks, and tireless energy. If you feel better b eing vulnerable or seeking support when faced with challenges, that's fine. Being brave is not compulsory; it's a personal choice. The Whole Nine Yards Episode 136 With Roy Stannard On Mid Sussex Radio 103.8FM Sunday 3rd September 2023 3-5pm www.midsussexradio.co.uk/listen Music Manifesto There was a time when bands made as many manifestos as they made records. A manifesto is what you want to change in the world through your art. Music isn’t just about how to write a song, it’s about making a cultural impact. Manifestos have the power to spark whole movements, provoke social change, and cause revolutions that change our vision of art, music and beyond. They can predict the future. They can re-set the past.. These are some of my favourite music manifestos. Have you thought what yours could be? The Whole Nine Yards Episode 124 With Roy Stannard On Mid Sussex Radio 103.8FM Sunday 11th June 2023 3-5pm www.midsussexradio.co.uk/listen The Dance of Life In dance as in life. The tempo changes, the steps stumble and steady, the beat quickens and slows. In dance you move with the flow, adapt to the melody. In life, changes in circumstance, wealth, marital status and health have to be quickstepped and tangoed. Just as in dance, life requires a little practice, sensitivity towards the mood and movement of others, a light touch - and a humble thank you at the end of the music. Then My Soul will Sing Soul music, with its rich heritage and expression, has a unique ability to tug at our emotions. However, not all music with soul is soul music. Today, we’ll play the heartstrings out of music that sings from the heart and touches the soul. Soul, Neo-soul and passionate music that comes from the heart, not the studio hard drive. The Whole Nine Yards Episode 122 With Roy Stannard On Mid Sussex Radio 103.8FM Sunday 28th May 2023 3-5pm Old. New. Borrowed. Blue. In an ethereal concert hall, the stage is set with a grand piano, its polished wood reflecting the soft glow of golden lights. From the corner of the stage, a vintage gramophone spins, releasing pure nostalgia. On the other side, a DJ crouches in the centre of a NASA dashboard, crafting new beats and electronic harmonies. The audience, a tapestry of generations, starts to sway in time with the music. The old whispers its secrets, the borrowed echoes its influence, and the new pulses expectantly. The Whole Nine Yards Ep 116 with Roy Stannard On Mid Sussex Radio 103.8FM Sun 16.4.23 3-5pm www.midsussexradio.co.uk/listen Tomorrowland There are countless songs written about tomorrow. And yet tomorrow doesn’t at this stage exist. The word tomorrow represents the unknown. Some songs showcase the joy of looking forward to tomorrow, other songs express the worry associated with waiting for tomorrow.   Many of the songs are about a strained relationship with someone. How changes in a relationship might affect partners in the future. For others tomorrow is symbolic of hope. Of a brighter day. Dr Seuss, the American children’s author and cartoonist put it this way: "Today was good/Today was fun/Tomorrow is another one." So, why are so many songs written about something that doesn't exist? In a study in 2020, people who suffered chest pain soon after a heart attack, experienced a lot less anxiety and pain if they listened to music for 30 minutes a day. Listening to relaxing music not only reduced heart and respiration rates but also oxygen demand of the heart in heart attack patients.
