Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike were both on target as the Reds booked their place in the next round of the competition despite a below par showing against the Saints. Chris Smith is joined by Stu Montagu and TLW Editor Dave Usher to discuss a game with a surprising amount of talking points. A top performance from Federico Chiesa, an assured debut from Giovanni Leoni that was sadly marred by what looks like a serious injury, a first Liverpool goal for Isak and arguably the stupidest sending off in club history. We cover all of this as well as the farce that is the Ballon d'Or, plus we look ahead to the weekend's trip to Selhurst Park.
Five wins from five in the league and we didn't even need a late winner this time. Goals from Gravenberch and Ekitike capped a brilliant first half for the Reds and although the second half failed to live up to those standards, it's another win to keep the 100% start to the season going. TLW Editor Dave Usher is joined by John Gallagher and Paul Natton to reflect on a mixed afternoon at Anfield but ultimately a satisfying one.
They've only gone and done it again! Three times this season the Reds have blown a two goal lead only to then win the game in stoppage time. This one didn't ever feel in any doubt, we all knew what was coming and the skipper delivered it. Chris Smith is joined by TLW Editor Dave Usher to look back on another dramatic night at Anfield in which Alexander Isak made an exciting debut, Florian Wirtz produced his best performance of the season and Arne Slot's side made it five wins from five thanks to another late, late show.
The Reds left it late yet again as a Mo Salah penalty deep into stoppage time finally broke Burnley's resistance and maintained the Champions 100% start to the new season. TLW Editor Dave Usher is joined by Ian Brown to reflect on a tough old slog at Turf Moor that ultimately ended with the right result. The lads also look ahead to the Atletico Madrid game in midweek and discuss how Alexander Isak might be integrated into the side.
Deadline Day was full of drama and for once the Reds were involved in it. You win some, you lose some, and Arne Slot ended the summer with some incredible signings, while lamenting the one that got away at the last minute. Chris Smith is joined by TLW editor Dave Usher and the Daily Telegraph’s Chris Bascombe to look back on Liverpool’s summer transfer window. The lads discuss the big arrivals, the departures, the deal that didn’t happen and what it all means for the coming months until it starts all over again in January.
It was a war of attrition with very few chances at either, but Dom Szoboszlai’s stunning late free-kick secured the points to send the Reds to the top of the table going into the first international break. Chris Smith is joined by Paul Natton and TLW Editor Dave Usher to reflect on a highly satisfying win that lays down an early marker in the title race.
It wasn't pretty, it wasn't impressive, but it was hilarious. Newcastle had been whipping themselves into a frenzy about this game for weeks, and ultimately that proved their undoing as the emotion got the better of them and they were sunk by a 16 year old 10 minutes into stoppage time. TLW Editor Dave Usher is joined by Dan Thomas to take a look back at the good (Rio), the bad (Konate) and the ugly (Joelinton) from a wild night at St James' Park.
The Reds title defence got off to a winning start as Federico Chiesa came off the bench to score a vital late goal after Bournemouth had clawed their way back from 2-0 down to level with a brace from the excellent Semenyo. Terry McDonald joins TLW Editor Dave Usher to reflect on an eventful night at Anfield in which new boy Hugo Ekitike dazzled, but his fellow new boys did not fare quite so well.
The Premier League is back and so are we. We’ll be picking apart the summer business, weighing up the competition and making those bold/foolish predictions that we’ll no doubt regret by Christmas. Chris Smith is your host for this one, joined by Paul Natton and TLW Editor Dave Usher, while all the other lads have chipped in with their predictions too. Who’s optimistic, who’s already writing us off, and who’s going full ‘Liverpool to win the lot’? (Spoiler, the last one is Paul, obviously).
New boys Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz shone but the Reds were twice pegged back by Crystal Palace and ultimately lost after a dismal penalty shootout display in which Salah, Mac Allister and Elliott all failed to convert. Chris Smith is joined by Julian Richards and Dave Usher to discuss the game, assess the impact of the new signings so far and to look ahead to the new season.
The Hugo Ekitike Podcast

The Hugo Ekitike Podcast

Hugo Ekitike is a Red. The young French forward became the latest big money signing to join Arne Slot's squad this summer, turning down other clubs to sign for the Champions in a deal worth around £70m. Chris Smith is joined by Ian Brown and Dan Thomas to discuss the new boy, where he fits in and what the Alexander Isak rumours mean for Ekitike. The lads also pay tribute to Diogo Jota, our fallen number 20.
The third major signing of the summer is in the bag as 21 year old Hungarian left back Milos Kerkez completed his long mooted move from Bournemouth to Anfield for a fee of around £40m. Chris Smith and TLW Editor Dave Usher discuss the move, his impressive first interview and what it means for the team as well as for Robbo and Kostas.
The Florian Wirtz Podcast

The Florian Wirtz Podcast

We all love a big splashy signing and we sure have one in German superstar Florian Wirtz. The Reds shattered their club record for the 22 year old from Bayer Leverkusen, who links up again with his good pal and fellow new signing Jeremie Frimpong. Chris Smith is joined by Julian Richards and TLW Editor Dave Usher to bask in the glory of Florian Friday.
Jeremie Frimpong is officially a Red after the club unveiled their first signing of what is likely to be a busy summer. On the day our outgoing right back completed his move to Real Madrid, Liverpool wasted no time in announcing his successor. Chris Smith is joined by Stu Montagu and TLW Editor Dave Usher to discuss the new boy and what he will bring to the table, while the lads also discuss the events - both good and bad - of Monday's parade.
Mo Salah's goal broke yet another record and ensured the Reds avoided defeat on the day they were presented with the Premier League title. 35 years ago it was Alan Hansen lifting the trophy, but this time it was Jocky presenting the trophy to fellow iconic skipper and centre half, Virgil Van Dijk. TLW Editor Dave Usher is joined by John Gallagher and Dan Thomas to look back on a memorable afternoon at Anfield where - result apart - everything went as well as it could have done, even for Trent.
There was a game tonight and we have to talk about it, but not for long! There's lots going on at the moment including new signings being in the works as well as the continuing Trent saga. TLW Editor Dave Usher and Ian Brown briefly go over the events at the Amex Stadium tonight, before getting stuck into everything else that's going on. Transfer comings and potential goings, potential tactical changes for next season as well as "the Summer of 66".
The Reds had to settle for a draw after squandering a 2-0 half time lead, but the result was almost a sideshow as all of the headlines will be about the booing of Trent Alexander-Arnold. Chris Smith, Paul Natton and TLW Editor Dave Usher were all at Anfield and experienced first hand what went down, including Reds fighting other Reds in the Kop and players gesturing at the fans to stop booing. Just a thoroughly unpleasant afternoon that was in stark contrast to the joyous scenes of two weeks ago.
After almost a full season of speculation Trent Alexander-Arnold today finally delivered the news that had been expected and feared - he is leaving Liverpool for free in the prime of his career. Chris Smith and Dave Usher have a chat about the situation, covering a wide range of issues including the process behind it, why Trent may be making a decision he lives to regret, the announcement itself and how that was handled as well as what it means for the Reds moving forward.
A much changed Liverpool side conceded early and late in a 3-1 loss at Chelsea that probably wasn't deserved but ultimately doesn't really matter as the title has already been sewn up of course. Dave Usher and Paul Natton discuss the performance, specifically how the fringe players did, and how that it is likely to impact their future with the club moving forward.

You may have heard, but the Reds won the league at the weekend! We did a pod immediately after the Spurs game and promised you a follow up pod after we've had time to take everything in. Well here it is. Chris Smith is joined by TLW Editor Dave Usher as well as Stu Montagu and John Brennan to reflect on the events of Sunday and all of the glorious content to come out in the days that followed.
