Prepare to have your mind blown with this @ggtobc episode featuring my new friend & mentor, Dr. Beth Dupree. 🀯 A Breast Surgical Oncologist by training, a series of impactful life events & a spiritual awakening fueled her desire to heal the whole patient. She transformed her clinical practice towards Integrative Medicine which led her to her latest clinical interest, Psychedelics in cancer care.  @drbethdupree & I bond over our shared love of “Many Lives, Many Masters” & delve into the role of Psychedelics & Spirituality in cancer care, chronic illness, & survivorship. We also discuss the issues with Western medicine, physician burnout, & how she handles the haters & naysayers. It is truly the Universe that led me to Dr. Dupree, & this conversation is the beginning of our beautiful bond.It left me wanting more, & I am now halfway through her first book, “The Healing Consciousness: A Doctor’s Journey to Healing,” which I highly recommend! ⭐⭐⭐⭐I hope you love this eye-opening conversation as much as I do! Now is the right time to share this important conversation that I recorded back in May, 2023 with Lizzy Savetsky & Dr. Ira Savetsky. @drirasavetsky is a Manhattan based plastic surgeon. @lizzysavetsky is a digital fashion influencer, matchmaker, mother if 3 & one of the most outspoken advocates for Israel. 🇮🇱We discuss the antisemitism that their family has been subjected their family to, particularly during their premature departure from the most recent reboot of the Real Housewives of New York & over prior conflicts in the Middle East. This conversation is even important now given recent world events & the rise in antisemitism. ✡But this is mainly an open conversation about breast health. We talk all about breast implants (spoiler alert, Dr. Savetsky did Lizzie’s breasts himself!), the rise in young breast cancer, & the increased risk of BRCA mutations in the Ashkenazi Jewish population. We also talk about finding balance in social media & Lizzy’s sobriety journey. I also offer my best breast cancer screening advice for those at higher-than-average risk for breast cancer. I am thrilled to be offering free genetic screening for the first 25 listeners thanks to @getjscreened & @kickbrca! 🙌I hope you learn something from this conversation. I wish you peace & safety wherever you are. 💕xoRobyn
IT’S OUR 2⃣ YEAR PODCAST ANNIVERSARY!!🥳 & we’re celebrating by having our first repeat guest, Dr. Elyce Cardonick from @cancerandpregnancy. But this time, she’s sharing about her own diagnosis of rectal cancer & what it’s been like to go from doctor to patient. We talk about the rise in cancer in young people, the unforeseen side effects of chemotherapy, scanxiety, & she offers her best advice for those going through chemotherapy or supporting someone who is. And, of course, we dedicate the last part of the episode to her area of expertise, cancer during pregnancy.Dr. Cardonick offers so much wisdom & insight, & we are so grateful to have her share her story with us.I hope you love this podcast episode as much as I do! I am so happy to be chatting with three incredible women from The Breasties, Kelli Goss, Lauren Oxenhandler, & Kelsey Litwin. The Breasties is the first all-inclusive nonprofit for breast & gynecologic cancer that creates a community for survivor, previvors, thrivers, & carevivors through peer-to-peer connection, resources, & advocacy. We chat about their connection to breast cancer, how The Breasties helped them, and the upcoming Camp Breastie, a four-day summit June 1-4 where hundreds of people impacted by breast and gynecologic cancer come together for community, patient advocacy, and education. (Registration closes May 1 so it’s not too late to join!) 🫶Kelli Goss is a BRCA1 previvor and the daughter of a two-time breast cancer survivor. In 2018, after discovering that she carried the BRCA gene mutation, Kellie opted to have a prophylactic mastectomy and hysterectomy to lower the risk of cancer. She shares her BRCA1 journey in the hopes that women of color will see themselves represented when making informed decisions about breast and ovarian health, early detection, and genetic counseling. Kelli is The Breasties Director of Diversity Equity + Inclusion.Lauren Oxenhandler is a transformational Life Coach and Reiki II practitioner. She is cancer-free after her stage II triple negative breast cancer diagnosis in 2017. After finishing chemotherapy, Lauren felt isolated and craved connection to a community of people who understood what she was going through. She discovered The Breasties, and now serves as Director of Virtual Programming.Kelsey Litwin discovered that she carries the BRCA1 gene mutation at 22 years old & was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer two years later, just prior to her prophylactic mastectomy. Kelsey is a freelance journalist, editor, and communications specialist based in Montreal, Canada and is passionate about making health information accessible. She writes and edits for The Peak, working to create content that resonates with, comforts and supports all members of the Breasties community.I hope you love this conversation as much as I do! 💕xoxRobyn
I am joined by two of the incredible founders of A Damn Good Life, Victoria Raphael and Ann Palmer, who are no stranger to breast cancer diagnosis at a young age & the impact it can have on a woman’s fertility journey.Victoria was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 33 & faced treatment related infertility. After a long surrogacy journey, she welcomed her first son via a surrogate earlier this year. 👶🏻 Victoria is about to start her second surrogacy journey with the surrogate’s twin sister! (HELLO LIFETIME MOVIE!) Ann watched her mom battle breast cancer for a decade when she was a teenager, & thanks to high-risk screening, she was diagnosed with early stage breast cancer at age 36 during COVID. After their own battles with breast cancer & infertility, they both wanted to give back in a tangible way. Together with friend Sarrah Strimel Bentley, also a young breast cancer thriver currently on her own surrogacy journey, they created A Damn Good Life to make surrogacy a reality for young breast cancer thrivers who do not have the financial resources themselves. Thanks to tons of fundraising events & “lots of blood, sweat, & tears,” they will be gifting their first total surrogacy journey at the end of the month! The first round of applications are due Monday, April 10, but they plan to continue their mission We talk about i their breast cancer & fertility journeys, why this organization is so near & dear to their heart, & their ideal grant candidate! Visit www.adamngoodlife.org to apply to the grant, donate, or learn more about this incredible organization! 💕
This is part ✌ of my incredible conversion with my friend, Kristina Burke, on navigating the complexities of a cancer diagnosis as both a patient & caregiver (if you missed part ☝- start there!). Trigger alert, this is a heartbreaking but very important conversation. 💔 Kristina was battling her own breast cancer diagnosis when her beloved husband, Jim Burke, a young, previously healthy, renowned chef at Wm. Mulherin & Sons, was diagnosed with a rare form of metastatic lung cancer (EGFR positive). 🥺We reflect on how they navigated cancer together with their young family, & Kristina offers incredible insight on how to advocate for yourself & others. Sadly, Jim lost his 2-year battle with lung cancer a few months back at the age of 49. 🥺😭We reflect on Jim’s life, legacy, moving through grief, & how the Philadelphia culinary community came together to support Team Burke. Trust me, you won’t want to miss it. 😘I am truly grateful to Kristina for sharing their incredible story and hope you benefit from this conversation. ❀‍🩹xoxoRobyn Also, make sure to check out their organization, TAG Time Happy Hour, which hosts amazing Philly dining experiences to benefit EGFR positive lung cancer research & honor Jim.https://www.tagtimehappyhour.org/
Earlier this week was National Caregivers Day, a day to honor the incredible sacrifices that Caregivers make for their loved ones. This is the perfect opportunity to share this two-part conversation with my dear friend, Kristina Burke, on navigating the complexities of a cancer diagnosis as both a patient & caregiver. Trigger alert, this is a heartbreaking but very important conversation. 💔Kristina was diagnosed with breast cancer off a screening mammogram in her 40s despite having no known family history. While undergoing her own breast cancer treatment during the pandemic, the unthinkable happened. Her husband, Jim Burke, a young, previously healthy, renowned Philadelphia chef at Wm. 🥺😭We check in on Team Burke & reflect on the past few years. Tune back for part ✌ of this incredible combo as we reflect on Jim’s life, legacy, & moving through grief. Trust me, you won’t want to miss it. 😘I am truly grateful to Kristina for sharing their incredible story and hope you benefit from this conversation. ❀‍🩹xoxoRobyn Also, make sure to check out their organization, TAG Time Happy Hour, which hosts amazing Philly dining experiences to benefit EGFR positive lung cancer research & honor Jim.🥺https://www.tagtimehappyhour.org/

It was an absolute honor speaking with Dr. Daniel Kopans, a pioneer in the field of breast imaging, about the importance of breast cancer screening for women in their 40s. Dr. Kopans has dedicated his career to improving mammography technology and has become one of the most outspoken defenders for breast cancer screening in young women. In this conversation, we discuss how 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘀𝗌𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗎𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗎 𝗮𝗻𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗎 𝗺𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗌𝗎𝗿𝗮𝗜𝗵𝘆 𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗎𝗲 𝟰𝟬 𝘀𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗌𝘀𝘁 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀. (and why 50 is a made up number). He also breaks down myths over radiation risk, overdiagnosis, and the future breast imaging. Dr. Kopans helped create the breast imaging subspecialty in the 1970s and is the founder of the Breast Imaging Division. Massachusetts General Hospital. Amongst his many accolades, he helped invent digital breast tomosynthesis, the needle localization procedure which made breast conservation therapy possible, and also wrote the book on breast imaging. This is an incredibly important and informative conversation, and you’ll understand breast cancer screening controversies (and why he’s the G.O.A.T. 🐐) Enjoy!Robyn
It was our honor to speak with US Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz about her breast cancer and BRCA2+ diagnosis at age 41 while a member of Congress, and how she has turned her breast cancer diagnosis into purpose. 🎀Representative Wasserman Schultz has become a leading congressional champion for the cancer advocacy community, and has passed countless bills to help promote early cancer detection and education in young women, increase accessibility for genetic screening, and improve access to cancer survivorship care services. 🙌She shares how the self-breast exam saved her life, the weight of a genetic mutation on a family, and how the notion of Tikkun Olam lead to her political career. 🀩We also chat about University of Florida and her clean cooking instragram @cleancookingcongresswoman. 🌱 We are officially fangirls and know you will be too. GO GATORS! 🐊🧡💙  xoxoRobyn & Adrienne US Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz was first elected to congress in 2004 and currently serves as the U.S. representative from Florida's 23rd congressional district which is much of Broward and North-Miami Dade.
