Description
Welcome to The Salty Club Podcast, with your host Caitlin Creeper. The Salty Club is a global community for women who don't do ordinary, where surf, strength, movement, and wild living collide. We believe when women claim their sport, their stories, and their freedom, they become unstoppable. Here we share conversations with adventurers, athletes, artists, and everyday firestarters, plus solo reflections on movement, motherhood, and making a life outside the lines. Like a quick voicenote from your best friend. Ever been so close to a goal that the idea to quit suddenly creeps in? If you’ve been tempted to walk away from a challenge you committed to, this one’s for you.
Join host Caitlin Creeper and Lilly Woodbury in this chat for surfers and ocean lovers. Lilly Woodbury is a longtime environmental communicator working in coastal protection, policy, and public education, and in this talk she leads us through where we’re at in the fight to protect the environment, what’s been done, and what still needs to be done. It might be bleak sometimes but all is far from lost. We talk about the wins, the very real threats, how one can stay in the room and conversation of environmental protection even when it’s hard. We talk about how to walk the line between the truth, and the wins, and why ocean trash pickups still matter- as does pushing back against corporate exploitation and everything in between. Why do we get so embarrassed when we’re learning a new sport or skill or craft? I call it beginner’s shame. PERSON: “Are these your paintings?”US: “I mean, yes… but like, I’m JUST STARTING and I haven’t had any OFFICIAL TRAINING and this is just a HOBBY, and these paintings here aren’t my BEST ONES, you know, and uh…”I notice it in the surf, girls who are learning, yet sit out on the shoulder and don’t go for waves when they roll in, simply because some old dude is going for it, too.And in the girls’ head she has this running dialogue like “well… they’re probably a better surfer and i’m just going to fall off anyway so, you know, I’ll just wait for another one.” I get it. We don’t really allow much space for people in this world who are just… average at something. In this solocast Caitlin talks about her journey with beginner's shame, how she moved past it and some advice to get going on that thing you've always wanted toTry the Salty Club 30 Days FreeEditing by Mateus GomesSong 'Green' by Mae Mae
