Every day as parents we vow to bring our children up differently than we were. That they will have so much more than we did. We won’t have the same rules for our kids, we will make sure our kids aren’t bullied, etc. The brutal truth… We have one hell of a time doing that once the children have arrived and it’s time to make all those changes. Often, we revert back to the things that we hated most. Such is the case in labeling our kids. We are constantly putting them into little boxes. During this episode we talk through why we should stop labeling our kids and start challenging them. We’ll also talk about some interesting theories along the way. Stay tuned and let me know your thoughts.
Boundaries with our kiddos can often be challenging to overcome. Situations that we want to parent a certain way, can cross our kids boundaries. And vice versa. We know as adults, that we have to find workarounds when this happens, but our kids don't. They are often afraid to speak up and defend their boundaries... that's if they can express them to begin with. During this episode I talk through different ways to discuss boundaries with our kids and share with you some wisdom from our Battalion!#boundaries #kidsandboundaries #settingboundaries #knowinglimits

Parents of children with autism know that control is an important aspect of their lives and can be difficult to manage. When something disrupts the plan, it can cause chaos and episodes. This can be especially challenging for teenagers as they are figuring out their emotions and hormones. To help them learn how to emotionally regulate, parents should provide a safe environment where they can practice controlling their reactions and understanding when they need to follow and when they need to lead. They should also be open about their own control issues in order to help their children understand.
With everything that's been happening lately in American schools, today we're going to discuss the impact of mass events in our kiddos' mental healthIt's no secret that the frequency of these events has risen dramatically over the past few decades. This unfortunate trend has had serious repercussions on society, especially on our young children. The impact on kids' mental health cannot be understated. The traumatizing nature of these events can cause anxiety, depression, and even PTSD in children who witness such horrors. Even those who are not physically present during the situation can still be psychologically affected by media coverage and constant discussions. That's why today we'll focus on its effects and how we, as parents, can provide the necessary support to help them overcome these difficult experiences.
56% of our children don't eat nutritious foods. And, though some parents may think this can only affect them physically, it can also affect them mentally. In fact, bad nutrition can influence neurodivergent kids in a negative way!Tendencies towards compulsive and hyperactive behaviors, difficulty focusing, and a tendency towards over-emotional reactions, are all commonly associated with neurodivergent children. Poor nutrition, particularly a diet high in sugar, trans fats, and additives, can worsen these symptoms and exacerbate challenging behaviors. So, join Sam today to talk about the science behind nutrition and neurodivergent kids from a mom's point of view!
With so many school-related news in social media where parents are sued for worrying about their child's education, it is easy to wonder: do schools have our kiddos' best interest in mind or are they just greedy? Today's episode starts with some alarming news: a mom has been sued by a teacher's union just for filing a public record request to check what her daughter would be learning at school. So, do parents have the right to be inquisitive about their children's education or do they just have to stick to it no matter how it is? Let's discuss it in the 8th episode of Real Moms of Neurodivergent.
Despite the prevalence of autism diagnosis in recent years, there still remains a severe lack of quality services for autistic children. So today we're going to discuss our take on why there are too few services for people on the spectrum! This phenomenon can be attributed to several influential factors, including the fact that many misconceptions about autism continue to exist today, making it harder for people to understand the lifelong struggles faced by those with autism. These myths can also lead people to underestimate the number of specialized services quickly becoming necessary, leading to a dangerous lack of services that affect every neurodivergent. To learn more about what's with the services, keep watching our 7th episode!
At what age should your child be on social media? There's no one answer to this question since every child is different. But in this video, we explore the pros and cons of kids being on social media from our mama point of view. While some might suggest that younger kiddos should not have access to apps like Instagram or Facebook because of potential cyberbullying and other dangers; others believe that, if rules are put in place and kids are properly educated about proper online etiquette and safety, it is okay to let them have social media profilesListen now to find out our take on this matter!

It’s that time to have our Sensory Kiddos Prepping for Back to School. Being prepared is the best way to make a difference! Sensory kids need special attention during the back to school period. We know that some of them are feeling overwhelmed. We know that without the right steps in place, that first day of school will be CHAOTIC especially when you throw in their social anxiety. But, there’s hope! Take a listen and see just how much your first couple of days can be amazing instead of scary!
Talking about saving with kids, is not the most appealing thing to do. Most of the time, they’re like, yeah sure… and then as soon as they get some money, they spend it.During this Rally Point the kiddos surprised me. We were watching videos and singing songs. They were having a fun time. When they were asked what they would do with $100 dollars, I really expected them to talk about buying games, vbucks or something similar. Instead, the kids wanted to share the money with their family and friends. It was a total heartwarming moment to be a part of. Their favorite part though, was the singing piggy banks! Take a listen and let us know how your kiddos spend, save or share their earnings!
Please tell me we’re not the only parents that have really wanted to help our kids, but we just can’t understand their directions… It’s such a sad and maddening moment. All you want to do is help them vocalize what is going on with them. The hardest part for us, is understanding why they can’t tell us what is going on. Especially for our older kids. I wanted to do this project with the kids to help show them and our parents what it can be like communicating with each other. Sometimes, it’s just hard.I’ve got to say though, these kiddos are champs and even when they were frustrated, they didn’t give up… they kept trying! They got it wrong… they kept trying! It’s an amazing thing to experience!
Ever since kids could crawl, we've been teaching them about personal safety, household safety and of course stranger danger. Let's face it, kids are dangerous in all of these areas as they grow. What we haven't been teaching them as much, is online safety. Sure, schools cover some on bullying, but not to the extent that it reaches them at home. That's not even getting into them not talking to strangers while playing online games, or handing out their personal information when they make a post on Instagram or Snapchat. There is a lot left to be desired when we talk about kids online safety. In today's episode, we talk about how Boo's Battalion works with the kids on this aspect, with an emphasis on safety while chatting with others.
Kids and hygiene... we all know that's a touchy subject haha. In the last few weeks we've been working with the kids and encouraging them to use easy routines so that they can make things easier! There were a lot of great moments! Take a listen and let us know what tricks could help you and your fam!
