In this special episode, Anne and Ali interview psychologist Dr. Madeleine Amie, who has been working as a counseling psychologist for over 15 years in New Zealand and Australia. They talk about Madeleine's work around survival response and, most importantly, imposter syndrome and how it relates to the author and publishing community. They discuss how imposter syndrome can affect our presence on social media and how to avoid emotional burnout. Madeleine also talks about being aware of our tolerance levels, the physical symptoms that can be brought on by stress response, and knowing when to take a break.*A note about this conversation: When people are backed into a proverbial corner, their survival instincts kick in. Three of the most commonly known responses are fight, flight, and freeze, as well as a lesser known response called ‘fawning’. These survival responses are the body’s automatic reaction to threat and danger, and are controlled by our brain’s autonomic nervous system. If you’re interested in learning more about Dr. Amie, fawning or the fawn response, be sure to visit her website The Fierce Fawn.
