Repeat after me: "Fasting is NOT a "diet."  If you treat this healing modaily as a fad or diet, it can unintentionally hinder your progress. Fasting is an innate and instinctual behavior that our bodies can benefit from, it is the oldest healing modality in recorded human history.  It can be initially challenging to break the habit of feeling like you need to eat all day to achieve your weight loss goals, this is what we grew up hearing. You may even find yourself still believing the broken rhetoric of conventional diet culture, believing that obsessively counting and restricting calories will lead you to be successful. This way of thinking is understandably hard to break if thats all you have ever known about successfully losing weight. This week we go over what diet culture DOESN'T talk about. 6 years ago I made a commitment to myself after realizing the power of this natural and innate tool within us all. Most folks starting out have lots of overwhelming feelings in their approach. Many feel that to be successful in their efforts, they must do a full lifestyle overhaul. Things will go wrong, you will be challenged, and many things will evolve and change on your journey. Embrace AND expect lots of learning opportunities instead of letting fear drive perfectionism in your efforts. Be okay with “done, not perfect.” See the actual effort and your strength in doing/achieving “just enough” for now. The most profound and permanent changes happen slowly, so stop trying to rush the process or wishing things were “done” already.
