René Coman sits down with the original Troubled Man, Manny Chevrolet, over cocktails at the Ring Room, in the heart of an old-school New Orleans social haunt.
Manny is an L.A. native who had been through the Hollywood wringer by his late 20s. He then moved to New Orleans to become a perennial candidate for mayor and make a feature film about it.
René is a New Orleans native who's been in the music biz wringer since he was a child. They are the Troubled Men for Troubled Times.

The organ and piano ace who's toured with Bonerama, Dr. John's final band, and the Take Me to the River AllStars has also played or recorded with Nicholas Payton, Nora Jones, Stanton Moore, Johnny Vidacovich, Big Chief Donald Harrison, several Marsalises, and his own Joe Ashlar Organ Trio. He first became obsessed with keyboards at 4 years old after seeing Herbie Hancock perform "Rockit" on Sesame Street, and was averaging two gigs a week by age 10. Coming to New Orleans in 2007 to play on a Galactic side project with Simon Lott, he quickly found a welcoming music scene and a full calendar of gigs. Tonight Joe drops in for a visit with the Troubled Men, the Bert and Ernie of degenerates.

The award-winning cartoonist, animator, and illustrator behind Mogihead comics is a founding member of the 24-hour Draw-A-Thon, the comics editor for Antigravity magazine, and board president of the Krewe of 'tit Rex, where his handmade micro “Qomix" are a much sought-after parade throw. His early obsession with Charles Schulz's "Peanuts” comic strip and preteen exposure to a Bunny Matthews' "Vic & Nat'ly" book convinced him to pursue a career as a comic artist. The legendary singer, guitarist, and songwriter, once named artist of the decade, started with the Nuns in the early days of the San Francisco punk scene and opened for the Sex Pistols' final show. The singer, guitarist , accordion player, and songwriter has been barnstorming the festival circuit in advance of his "Mid-City" album. After growing up in Houma, Louisiana, in a musical family with blues titan brother Tab Benoit and studying with Elaine Aiken at the Actors Conservatory in NYC, Tyron was destined for a career in showbiz. Two combat tours with the U.S. Marines during Operation Desert Storm gave him all the tools he needed to fend off the Troubled Men.

The 3rd-generation multi-instrumentalist spent his formative years in his family band, Ovi G. and Los Ranas (the Froggies), the latest incarnation of a group started in the 1940s by his grandfather as a marimba orchestra in Guatemala. Growing up in New Orleans with his master musician father, Ovi started playing professionally at 8 years old, and eventually was recruited to be a drummer at NOCCA. Now a working musician in bands including Margie Perez, Vivas, Victor Campbell and Jafet Perez, and Los Tremolo Kings, Ovi sits in with the Troubled Men in an attempt to elevate the proceedings. It's worth a shot.

The drummer and manager for Little Freddie King has been with the legendary electric country blues man for over three decades, sheparding every aspect of his career. Wacko started out with the Nightowls playing at the notorious Mary's Tavern, and later backed a fresh-out-of-Angola Freddy Fender at Papa Joe's on Bourbon St. His long partnership with Little Freddie has taken them to over 150 cities in 15 countries around the world. Having spent 6 months as a target of the Vietcong in Da Nang Harbor, Wacko has no problem handling the slings and arrows of the Troubled Men.

The singer, songwriter, and guitarist of Human Drama started with the Models in the early '80s New Orleans punk scene before relocating the group to L.A., changing the name, and signing a record deal with RCA. Dissatisfaction with major label politics led to a move to Triple X Records and string a of successful releases and videos, cultivating a large fanbase in Mexico along the way. Now back in the New Orleans area and reconnecting with all the old punks, Johnny meets with the Troubled Men just down the road from the clubs of his youth. Who says you can't go home again?

The indie filmmaker, photographer, firefighter, and former teacher went from USC film school in South Central L.A. to the war zone of a New Orleans-area high school classroom. His latest film “The Great Davini” stars Snake and Jake’s beloved owner Dave Clements in the title role. Jason’s service as a first responder in the Katrina aftermath tested his mettle in ways most never encounter. A world traveler, he’s has been to Libya, Syria, and Afghanistan, but tonight he really takes his life in his hands when he convenes with the Troubled Men.
