The veteran tenor saxophone player grew up with family friends Louis Prima and Sam Butera as his mentors, becoming bandleader of his own group the Emperors at age 12. By 17, Johnny was playing the biggest clubs on Bourbon St., later working with recording stars including Freddy Fender, Ernie K-Doe, Dr. John, Frankie Ford, Sam Cooke, and Kenny Rogers.
