The Curious Leader´s podcast takes you on to meaningful conversations. My guests and I, we reflect and exchange on New Leadership, the importance of trust, courage and curiosity, on future skills farming such as developing the art of listening and how to create a culture for creativity and innovation. And as sometimes it is far better to listen to good music than more good advice, each podcast ends with one selected piece of music.

We are talking about an expert organization and the impact of bold decisions, and what happens they are even unpopular decisions. What role does listening play? It is a short talk this time and after roughly 12 minutes we suggest you stop listening to good advice and start listening to good music. Our episodes talk has come to an end and the music part starts. Horst Michael Schaffer offers today the piece "Vertigo" of Jazz Big Band Graz. Today it is at the point when the director of an orchestra needs to take decisions about ot taking on certain ideas. The question of how to speak about it, how to address it and how to encourage them for keep exchanging on ideas. If that work well the result is an enhanced curiosity, a genuine interest on the thoughts and actions of the leader. This results in a more thorough engagement and pride to be part.
When an orchestra sets out to explore new sounds, it is all about co-creation ad still there is one or two masterminds. Jazz Big Band Graz and its leaders, Horst Michael Schaffer and Heinrich von Kalnein, are walking on an interesting path. On one hand there is the vision of creating new soundscapes on the other hand there is an ensemble of highly qualified experts - how to combine those and create great results? My guest this month is Horst Michael Schaffer, who claims that in his compositions he is thinking from the perspective of the audience - listen to what this means.
