A true habit change is a change in our identity.
Why is it so challenging to change our habits,
(1) we try to change the wrong thing and
(2) we try to change our habits in the wrong way.
"Many people begin the process of changing their habits by focusing on what they want to achieve. This leads to outcome based habits. The alternative is to build identity based habits. With this approach, we start by focusing on who we wish to become."
This approach requires shifting focus from the tasks to be done, to becoming the person who is most likely to accomplish those tasks.
The identities that we associate with ourselves actually influence whether we succeed at forming a new habit.
New identities require new evidences.
So how then can we begin to change our identity? It's a 2-step process
- Decide the type of person you want to be.
- Prove it to yourself with small wins
Every Small Action is a Vote of Confidence to Your Identity.

Progress often feels non-existent until we reach a critical threshold. SMART goals are crucial, but systems are the true drivers of success. Winners and losers alike set goals, but it's systems that determine outcomes.
