Do you like scary movies? Cause we certainly do this season. Our second original vs. sequel pairing for horror movies (or third if you count Alien as many do), includes the quintessential 90’s horror series: Scream! Steve takes on the responsibility of defending the original Scream that kickd off an entirely new generation of slasher films that lasted more than a decade. And Jeff gets the honors of trying to prove that it’s sequel (the first of many) is better than the original. Will the meta nature of small-town feel of the first movie take home the victory? In our most recent original vs. sequel pairing, we have a couple of movies that many of you know very well and are part of one of the biggest franchises in history: Batman. This week we take a look at the Christopher Nolan reboot Batman Begins and it’s revolutionary sequel The Dark Knight.  Nate gets to defend the start of the reboot series with Batman Begins. And opposing him will be Steve arguing on The Dark Knight and it’s merits. Will the “hero’s journey” structure of Batman Begins give that movie the victory this week? In space nobody can hear you scream about which movie is better, the original or the sequel. Luckily, we’re not in space, we’re on a podcast and you get to hear us argue about which is better between the first two films in the Alien franchise: Alien and Aliens.  Jeff will defend the original that started it off with Ridley Scott’s Alien (which we discussed in season 1 if you want to go back and do some prep before this episode), and James Cameron’s (making his third appearance this season) Aliens. This is the week that we’re sure many of you have been waiting for. Week three is here and we have a good one! After two weeks of the original taking the win, will a sequel finally be able to break through? This week is as good of a chance as any with the epic films of The Terminator and the Terminator 2: Judgment Day. This will be the first week in which there is a clear difference between budget and production values between the first and second movie. As we laid it out in our first episode this season, the argument “the special effects are better because of the bigger budget” is not a viable argument. So how will these bee defended?  To find out, Steve will have the honor of defending the original The Terminator and Jeff will take the defense of the sequel The Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Without the obvious argument of better special effects (especially ones as revolutionary as T2) how will the arguments for the film hold up? Is it still better from a character and story perspective?
