Drink that tea and blast them death metals! Alberta's heaviest example of what's good in the west sits down with yours truly to discuss tea (of course), the grind of social media presence, what it means to be a practicing Satanist, and more! It never ceases to amaze me that even in an overly saturated extreme metal market, there are those who think wildly outside the box, and stand out. Not just in music, but in marketing as well! This chat was a great one that you must check out! Get your tea and quality metal straight from the source! www.satanicteaco.com
A meeting of the empaths!! Be sure to check out this special interview - I expand my mind and lighten the soul through the channelings of good-viber Sean Sirianni, of The Creative Imbalance. In efforts to broaden my spectrum of interviewees, I start new exploration off on the right foot by conversing with one of Toronto's finest podcast hosts. Lots of ground covered here, and definitely a chat you don't want to miss! The Creative Imbalance:https://www.thecreativeimbalance.com/https://www.youtube.com/@CreativeImbalancehttps://www.instagram.com/thecreativeimbalance/
Another amazing interview for your viewing pleasure! Come sit down with Martin Leth Anderson of the massive Strychnos, where we talk of life/band balance, the writing process for their debut album "A Mothers Curse", what's coming up in 2024, and more!!
Kicking off season two with a bang! In my second chat with Sam Dufour, we discuss the mighty Phobocosm dropping an amazing album later this year called "Foreordained". Stick around and find out what he has to say about the new LP, secret studio tricks, the supporting tour, and more!
Easily one of the most creative collection of minds in the death metal biz, Horrendous have outdone themselves with every release they have put out. Each album is so distinct from the other, all the while making absolutely sure that it is most definitely Horrendous. So many entertaining versions of themselves to discover across their entire discography.. I normally have a quick something-to-say in these few words, but I am at a loss. Horrendous releases are always going to be top-shelf in my collection, and I consider myself a better person for having experienced them. If that doesn't make you want to take a listen, i don't know what will. I've been waiting for this sit-down to happen since I started this little project of mine, and it's finally here!
It's a dead giveaway that I'm into a band when I have the honor of a second round interview! I said it when Death Unchained was out: Nexorum are THE band to keep an eye on. Excellent death metal, with all the right blackened edges, set to smash you flat! Such a blast to listen to, and still gets repeat spins to this day. The new drop, Tongue Of Thorns, is just about to be unleashed, and I again have the pleasure to sit down with Roger and chat about what is happening with this release. Disclaimer: This album is fucking amazing.. And I say that more than a few times in our conversation!
The search for the best melodic metal is never-ending.. So many bands, so many melodies, but when nothing seems to break through and take you away, here is one band that you must be turned on to.. An Abstract Illusion sets the bar high. VERY high. The way they build their soundscape is not only unique in craft, but also in quality. I guarantee that you won't find anything out there quite like this little outfit from Sweden. Pushing the envelop amongst a metaphorical sea of washed-out sounds and half-hearted melodies, they excel in doing what they do best: combining intelligent and modern-leaning compositions with a beautiful and effortless balance of melody and aggression. Very hard to pull off, but An Abstract Illusion don't even break a sweat. Its plainly obvious that the crew here love what they do, and it shows in every second of every song they write. A very recent and extremely pleasant discovery for me! If you haven't heard yet, then most definitely for you too! Do yourself a favor and check these guys out, and enjoy the interview!
Music at 4am. No sleep, the brain is wired. Nothing makes sense. Finding a way to try to sink back into much needed REM, one may turn to music as a way to slip back into slumber. If this sounds like a familiar tactic, then it's likely you have a go-to list of bands that help you on your path. If this is you, then you need Phobocosm. Quebecs's answer to atmosphere and metal, this music is a stunning example of what a soundscape is. Compositionally strong music is what I typically lean towards, and while Phobocosm has that in spades, it's their unique brand of darkness that is what really makes them stand out from the pack. Not just any common death influenced atmo-metal that you can find anywhere mind you, I'm talking about a band that carefully crafts an auditory sensation which distorts the senses: riff, time signature, and even music itself means something different with this act. I consider them to be a part of a small group of bands that not only paint pictures, take you to places, but bridge gaps between what you hear and what you imagine. Nothing else out there gives me visuals like Phobocosm does... Much like sleep deprivation. Which is also a track of theirs that you should most definitely check out.
Hath. Look em up in the dictionary. Google defines it as "archaic third person singular present of have" As in, "Hath this band some of thine best'ith chops in the recent histories?" - The answer is a resounding "Ye". or "Yay". Hath do not fuck around. Their debut LP "Of Rot and Ruin", and their latest monster, "All That Was Promised" is one MOTHER of a one-two combo. I am absolutely a fan of melody and riff alike, and it's safe to say that pretty much anything that comes out these days, I stack it up to this band. Key phrase being "up to", and not "against". That wouldn't be fair to those being measured. One of the happiest of my discoveries during the lockdown days, I turned to this uniquely sick brand of discordant/elegant sound-scapage almost daily, and with all these recent interviews I've uploaded, I have pulled out Hath's discography time and time again throughout, constantly reacquainting myself with this special creative beast. To build something as strong as this band, with as few albums as they have out, is a feat you won't find anywhere else. And believe me, I've looked. I finally sat down with the man behind the kit, A.J. Viana. We talk about studio magic, fatherhood, macros, and more! Have yourself a click and enjoy some quality conversating!
Podcasts are not something I typically indulge in. I know I've been missing out. There are some decent ones for sure, plenty of which are informative ones rooted in debate and opinion, but it's not often that one holds my attention. Enter the pod that broke me in: Men Of Misfortune - Three broskis from Dubuque, Iowa, who have found themselves working a very organic and natural flowing formula, and have been delivering engaging content for well over a year now. Its a pile of laughs, and engaging content that you'd be hard pressed to find elsewhere. Originality is definitely not lost with this crew! What makes them such a time to listen to is not only the topics they cover, but the ways in which they cover them. One segment, Morning Cup of Chaos, is an excellent example of covering crazy shit that us humans are capable of! I wont disclose the formula, and I will not do it justice by attempting a rundown. You'll have to grab a cup of your favorite java (or beer!), and have a listen for yourself! It's as real as it gets here!
Space. Metal.. So many bands have their own interpretation of how this blend should go. NONE do it quite like Iotunn. These guys stand out from the rest in a big, big way. While looking for bands that dare to be different, the world of death metal offers as much innovation as it does imitation. How Iotunn managed to be so unique in a genre that shares so many common threads is beyond me, but they did it! Access All Worlds is one hell of a journey. Anyone who makes a point of knowing their music must have this LP in their library. It is vast, introspective, and intelligent. It is brutal as it is beautiful, and a brilliant example of the finest sounds death metal has to offer. This is a long-awaited interview, and I'm overjoyed to finally share it with you. Jesper is a stand-out person in a stand-out band, and I believe he and his bandmates are on the cusp of something truly great. May we follow their path through the stars, and enjoy every light-year of it!
Byzantine need no introduction... but should they do, here's the news: They are the best example of hard work paying off. In their infancy, they released a number of albums through Prosthetic records, hitting the ground running. They break up, and after a few years, return with a vengeance! Releasing both their self-titled album, and To Release is to Resolve with no help from a label, but with the support of friends, family, and fans. MetalBlade snagged them up, they dropped The Cicada Tree, survived Covid, came back AGAIN with a soon-to-be-released ep, playing shows, sounding dope, and kicking all kinds of motherfuckin ass!!! It is criminal that these guys are not as big as they deserve to be. I'm down with every single album they've put out, but they are one of the few bands out there who have an album out that I can place as a pivotal release in my life as a human. Their self-titled album got me through some times where there was no sun to be found, metaphorically and literally, and their forward-thinking compositions set the bar for all of the music in which I judge to this day. Thank you Byzantine for making excellent music!
Some bands just got a formula that can't be fucked with. Most bands that I've come across take a few albums before they come into their own, with each one to showcase bumps and hiccups until they truly shine. Nexorum skipped all of that. Death Unchained is their debut, and if this what they are in their infancy, then I think us fans are witnessing something special in the works! Nexorum has been on my wanted list since this channels inception, and it was absolutely worth the wait. Smooth, entertaining conversating is what makes this whole operation work, and this was one of the smoothest!
The music is awesome. There is no surprise there. I personally find it to be one of the most creative, diverse, and technically amazing spectrum of sounds that exist on this planet. Through all my endless searching, one sometimes crosses paths with those who show appreciation for the genre in their own unique way. Enter: Jon Lambert, of Noise Dosage Media. This guy actually put together a top-shelf documentary on the subject! 3hrs of straight up quality content. I wont give anything away, you'll have to check out the link below and get what's good! It's extremely refreshing to conversate with someone who shares a passion for the music, outside of creating it. Some people create it . Some people podcast it. Some people document it. No matter how you slice it, it's just one more avenue in which someone can provide an outlet for their enthusiasm! This is one awesome chat you don't want to miss out on!
Altered Dead are one of the best examples of a total package. The name fits the sound. The artwork fits the vocal imagery. Everything just works. Also, there are few others out there with the nastiness that these guys put out there. This is a band who knows exactly what they are about, and are all about their formula to get there, and deliver to the world some vicious, greasy death metal! Rarely does a two-piece sound so cohesive and focused in their delivery, and it was my pleasure to sit down and chat with Mic about what's good in the A.D. camp, and in life in general!
GTA is one of the best known hotbeds in Canada for quality music. A melting pot of musicians from around the world, there is just as much quantity of fine music's, as there is in greatness. One wonders how a band can stay afloat, and be noticed among a sea of talent... Cryophilic don't worry themselves with such matters. They do what they do, they do it well, and people take notice. An awesome example of what the GTA has to offer when it comes to music. An amazing band with an amazing sound, these guys do death metal right!
Genuine. This is a word that has been of constant use throughout my first run of interviews on this YouTube experiment. I've been extremely fortunate to have "real" people sit down with me and chat about their music, and their lives. Both on and off camera, few come close to the generosity that the boys from Mutilated By Zombies display here. This interview has feel-good vibes all over it, and you would do yourself a disservice not checking this one out. From the new music on the way, to potential plans for the back catalogue, these guys serve as an excellent example of what real people are, both inside and outside their band. Genuine people rip. Especially those who sound like these guys!
Cryptosis are a special kind of awesome. Their brand of thrash is so forward thinking and innovative, it literally must come from the distant future.. Since their LP Bionic Swarm came across my desk, these guys have been on repeat for a LONG time. They are a staple in my metal diet, and are a constant recommendation by yours truly! It's refreshing to know that there are bands out there who keep things revitalized by pouring originality into a tried and true genre, and Cryptosis are at the top of the heap! Join me as I sit down with Frank te Riet, and we cover what's good in the world of Cryptosis!
Discovering metal gems from around the world! Gutslit are THE example of what is hitting heavy in India, and on the international metal scene! Having released two crushing LP's, they are a monument to hard working bands who get back what they put in! Join me as I sit-down with Gurdip Narang & Aditya Barve, and discuss the health of the Indian metal scene, places of sentiment to reset and reflect, and much more! Very genuine content found inside!!
For the uneducated: Fractal Generator are one of the best examples of what's out there in the Canadian DM scene. Mega-talented and MASSIVE, there is nothing comparable to the sound these guys have, and yours truly has the pleasure of sitting down to discuss how metal survives in rural Ontario, "pain-states", and a new LP that currently is in the works! Have a click, and watch some genuine content between fans of unique music!
