We are officially one episode away from being in the "top 1%" according to Alex Hormozi. Which is exciting.  In this episode, we do a deep dive into how the average career lifespan of people in the fitness industry is so low and why this may be the case.Joe touches on the systems he looks at when trying to ensure that his staff want to stay around and stick in the industry for as long as possible. He also dives into strategies he has used as a coach to maintain his love for it. We hope you enjoy the episode!
In this episode, we go into a deep dive on Joe's speciality, both starting and running a successful gym business. We look at high level details of running the business such as leasing, finding the right space and the importance of being on top of all your financial management. As well as Joe's key lessons he has learnt. This episode is for all of you young health professionals that are looking to own and run a gym in the future.
Why training for longevity is the way forwardIn this episode, Matt and Kieran discuss the longevity approach to training and why this has been popularised recently as the key to a healthy, long life. Longevity looks at a sustainable approach to training so that you can continue to train and stay healthy all the way from 15 to 85. The boys touch on how the old way of training, going in and smashing yourself through high intensity training and weights, where you’re left feeling more sore than good, is not an effective way to train for a long period of time. Over time, something has to give, more often than not, resulting in injury. If you’re a young athlete or gym goer, this is especially the case for you as you want to be able to maintain this level of function for as long as possible. If you have missed any previous episodes, click the link in the bio for all episodes.
What makes a great team a great team? This episode sees the return of Joseph Agresta to talk about all things hiring, managing and growing staff through their career journey. Science of Fitness has a unique internship progression model where you can shape and mold young health professionals into highly qualified and knowledgeable health practitioners that are able to carry forth the businesses values and standards. The boys look at how to effectively grow staff from within, identify areas that you may need to hire someone for and also once you have all your staff, how do you turn them into a well functioning and efficient team. If you have missed any previous episodes, click the link in the bio for all episodes.
In this episode, Matt and Kieran discuss the evolution of the group fitness classes that are offered at Science of Fitness.Growing from high intensity 'primal' sessions, which was the foundation for the rest of the group fitness classes, Science of Fitness has evolved into a one stop shop for all your health and fitness desires. With yoga, pilates, and strength and conditoning classes being the base with specialty classes like breathing, core and move all complimenting this. We discuss the importance of longevity when it comes to health and fitness and why smashing yourself all day, every day in strength classes or high intensity classes may be doing more harm then good. Doing the hard work which may look like actually slowing down and completing a yoga or breathing class, is what a lot of people may actually need.
The final part of this three part series is finally here!So far we have discussed the mechanics and neuroscience of breathing and today we tick off the chemistry portion of breathing.Simply put, breathing is an exchange in gases, oxygen and carbon dioxide. But that exchange in gases impacts so many different aspects of how we function and feel.We take a deep dive into the importance of balancing between enough oxygen and carbon dioxide and why carbon dioxide isn’t the bad guy after all.If you missed any of the other episodes, please check them out above.
THE NEUROSCIENCE ABOUT HOW WE BREATHEIn the last episode, we covered all things breathing mechanics. In this episode, Kieran goes in depth about the neuroscience around the importance of breathing and how this impacts our overall health. Our bodies are essentially governed by our nervous systems and one way we can directly influence which system is dominating is through our breath. We can increase our 'readiness' and 'arousal' through breathing but we can also settle down and calm ourselves through our breathing. This is part two of our three part series about breathing. If you missed the earlier episode, make sure you listen to that and stay tuned for part three. If you liked this episode, please leave a rating above.
Welcome to our three part series about all things breathing. This part one, where Kieran Maguire goes into depth about the specific mechanics that are necessary to breathe effectively.Breathwork has taken the world by storm, mainly popularised by Wim Hof, so much so that it is being integrated into peoples daily health regimes. Although breathing is something we do from our first moment until the last, we rarely stop and think about how we breathe. In this episode, we dive into the musculature of how we breathing and how it can be a whole body movement, the difference between chest breathing and diaphragmatic breathing and the chronic effects if we are breathing incorrectly plus so much more.Stay tuned for the next two parts where we discuss the neuroscience and chemistry of breathing. Huberman Lab post about how breathing can slow down your heart rate:https://www.instagram.com/p/COeSxVGnTF0/

None of this would've been possible without Jacob. This creation of a community to assist clients through the rehab journey has been so important for increasing positive outcomes from injuries.
