Σε αυτό το επεισόδιο, θα γνωρίσουμε το μοναδικό μουσείο στην Ελλάδα το οποίο είναι αφιερωμένο αποκλειστικά στην τέχνη και τις αρχαιότητες της Ασίας και δεν είναι άλλο από το Μουσείο Ασιατικής Τέχνης το οποίο θα βρεις στην Παλιά Πόλη της Κέρκυρας. Το μουσείο στεγάζεται σε ένα από τα πιο ξεχωριστά αξιοθέατα της Παλιά Πόλης του νησιού, στο Ανάκτορο Αρχαγγέλων Μιχαήλ και Γεωργίου το οποίο με τη σειρά του κουβαλά τη δική του μοναδική ιστορία. Όπως ίσως γνωρίζεις, η Κέρκυρα δεν βίωσε Οθωμανική κυριαρχία, όμως πολλοί κατακτητές της Δύσης κυριάρχησαν στο νησί μεταξύ αυτών και οι Άγγλοι οι οποίο έχτισαν το ανάκτορο. Όμως σίγουρα θα αναρωτιέσαι πώς βρέθηκε εδώ, σε ένα νησί του Ιονίου, ένα μουσείο που παρουσιάζει μέσα από την τέχνη την ιστορία της Ιαπωνίας, της Κίνας, της Νοτιοανατολικής και Κεντρικής Ασίας. Σε αυτό το επεισόδιο σε ξεναγούμε στη συναρπαστική ιστορία του Παλαιού Φρούριου της Κέρκυρας που βρίσκεται στην Παλιά Πόλη του νησιού, η οποία έχει χαρακτηριστεί ως ένα μνημείο UNESCO. Θα μιλήσουμε για ένα εμβληματικό φρούριο το οποίο διαμορφώθηκε κυρίως από τους Ενετούς, οι οποίοι κυριάρχησαν στο νησί για πάνω από 400 χρόνια. Μέσα από την ιστορία του θα γνωρίσεις όλους τους κατακτητές που πέρασαν από το νησί οι οποίοι έπαιξαν καθοριστικό ρόλο στην διαμόρφωση της ταυτότητάς του. In this episode, we introduce you to the Museum of Asian Art – the only museum in Greece dedicated exclusively to the art and antiquities of Asia. It is housed in one of the most impressive buildings in Corfu Old Town, the Palace of St Michael and St George – which in turn carries its own unique history. Corfu didn’t experience Ottoman rule like the rest of Greece. But many Western nations did rule the island, including the British who built the palace. In this episode, we take you on a tour of the Old Fortress of Corfu, located in the island’s Old Town, which has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We tell you the story of the iconic fortress, which was largely built by the Venetians who ruled Corfu for over 400 years. Through its history, you will be introduced to all the conquerors and rulers who have passed through the island, shaping its identity and creating one of the strongest fortifications in the Mediterranean. Your first question might be: Why is it called old? The answer is simple. It is to distinguish it from a newer Venetian fortress, with which it was once linked with perimeter walls enclosing the Old Town.
