On September 25, 2000, Kevin Hines, then 19 years old, approached the Golden Gate Bridge with the intention of ending his own life. CNN reports that the iconic bridge in San Francisco is the leading suicide location in the United States and the second most utilized globally, boasting a 98% fatality rate. Remarkably, Kevin is one of only thirty-four individuals to survive the fall, and he stands as the sole person to regain full physical mobility. Although the fall shattered his body, it failed to break his spirit. Today, Kevin devotes his life to saving others and promoting mental health awareness, urging individuals to seek help and fostering empathy by sharing his message of hope. He has become one of the most respected and admired voices reflecting lived experiences. Kevin's story serves as an extraordinary testament to the resilience of the human spirit and as a poignant reminder for all of us to cherish the lives we lead. In this episode of LaidOff.LifeOn!, Kevin joins me for a candid conversation, providing insight into his life leading up to the day that could have been his last. He shares the harrowing experience of attempting to take his own life, the miraculous events that allowed him to survive, and the profound messages he now seeks to impart as he embraces the gift of life.  Kevin Hines is a storyteller at heart. He is a best-selling author, global public speaker, and award-winning documentary filmmaker. In the year 2000, Kevin attempted to take his life by jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge. Many factors contributed to his miraculous survival, including a sea lion that kept him afloat until the Coast Guard arrived. Kevin now travels the world, sharing his story of hope, healing, and recovery while teaching people of all ages the art of wellness and the ability to survive pain with true resilience. #BeHereTomorrow and every day after that.   #LaidOffLifeOnPodcast; #KevinHines; #SuicidePrevention; #MentalHealthAwareness; #GoldenGateBridge #SuicideSurvivor#Depression #HopeAndHealing #SuicideAwareness #BreakTheStigma #VeteransMentalHealth #LifeAfterSuicide #CelebrateLife #YourStoryMatters     For more information on Kevin Hines, visit https://www.kevinhinesstory.com/ or follow him on social media: YouTube –    / kevinhines   Instagram –   / kevinhinesstory   Facebook -   / kevinhinesstory.us      For more information on Kelsey Waldrop, visit www.kelseywaldrop.com or connect on Linkedin: www.linkedin.com/in/kelseywaldrop List of mental health support and suicide prevention resources: National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (NSPL) Phone: 1-800-273-TALK (1-800-273-8255) Website: National Suicide Prevention Lifeline Crisis Text Line Text: HOME to 741741 Website: Crisis Text Line International Suicide Hotlines Website: Befrienders Worldwide MentalHealth.gov Website: MentalHealth.gov American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) Website: AFSP NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) Helpline: 1-800-950-NAMI (6264) Website: NAMI To Write Love On Her Arms (TWLOHA) Website: TWLOHA The Trevor Project (LGBTQ+ Youth) TrevorLifeline: 1-866-488-7386 Website: The Trevor Project Veterans Crisis Line Phone: 1-800-273-8255 (Press 1 for Veterans) Text: 838255 Website: Veterans Crisis Line Rethink Mental Illness (UK) Phone: 0300 5000 927 (Mon-Fri, 9:30 AM to 4 PM) Website: Rethink Mental Illness Remember, if you or someone you know is in immediate danger or experiencing a crisis, please call emergency services or go to the nearest emergency room.
