🔹Ven Pomnyun’s Dharma Q&A Ven. Pomnyun's Answer to " The Balance Between Our Own Happiness And Other People’s Happiness” Selection from a Dharma Q&A session at Google (Nov. 10, 2014) 🔹Question : I’m not sure if you are suggesting that appiness is sort of the state that we should ideally be seeking. But if it is, I think to the people that I know who are the happiest and they are actually the people that are most selfish. And I observe that they’re very happy because they spend, you know, all of our time and energy are limited. And they spend their time and energy on their own goals and their own interests. And they don’t really help others. And that doesn’t seem to be the ideal way of living. The ideal way of living seems to be some balance between seeking your own happiness and also seeking others’ happiness. On the other end of the spectrum, I see other people who are very selfless and help a lot of people selflessly. But actually because ey’re so neglectful their own needs they are unhappy. So it seems like we need some sort of balance, right? How would you suggest striking an appropriate balance between addressing other people’s needs increasing other people’s happiness, and our own happiness? 🔻Jungto Dharma School (Introduction to Buddhism): https://www.jungtosociety.org/jungto-dharma-school-online-course/  🔻 Find more at the following links: http://www.jungtosociety.org http://www.pomnyun.com https://www.instagram.com/jungto.society/ https://www.instagram.com/ven.pomnyun.sunim/ https://www.facebook.com/pomnyundailyquote https://insighttimer.com/jungtokorea  🔻 All Jungto Society’s social platforms: http://linktr.ee/jungtoint
🔹Ven Pomnyun’s Dharma Q&A Ven. Pomnyun's Answer to "Worldly Life Versus InwardLife Selection from a Dharma Q&A session at Google (Nov. 10, 2014)🔹Question : In your first answer that was a really beautiful. You talked about the importance of the how instead of the what. And I was wondering as people try to go down this path and look more inwards, how do you advise them in terms of spending their time inwards. Maybe people come to you for the monastic tradition. How do you advise people if the career or the worldly life versus more of an inward life? Do you have any advice?🔻Jungto Dharma School(Introduction to Buddhism): https://www.jungtosociety.org/jungto-dharma-school-online-course/ 🔻 Find more at the following links: http://www.jungtosociety.org http://www.pomnyun.com https://www.instagram.com/jungto.society/ https://www.instagram.com/ven.pomnyun.sunim/ https://www.facebook.com/pomnyundailyquote https://insighttimer.com/jungtokorea 🔻 All Jungto Society’ssocial platforms: http://linktr.ee/jungtoint
🔹Ven Pomnyun’s Dharma Q&A 2019. 12. 24. 🔹Question : I’ve always been a curious person ever since I was a little boy. For example, when there was an ant’s nest, I would watch to see where the ants are going, where they’re getting their food and the trails they make. Now in English speaking cultures, there’s a saying ignorance is bliss. Actually I’ve found curiosity to be one of the more positive factors in my life. It doesn’t seem like ignorance is bliss, is one of the approaches of the Jungto Society. For example, I’ve seen you give talks with a podium like this where it says Happiness school in Korean, and then later on we see a video about some three minute clip or so about some starving children in North Korea or a bird dying full of plastic. So is it possible for me to become happy without losing the awareness of those things that are happening in the world?OK. (Laughs) It’s something that I hope is true, but I don’t know if I can have blind faith that it is true. 🔻Jungto Dharma School (Introduction to Buddhism): https://www.jungtosociety.org/jungto-dharma-school-online-course/  🔻 Find more at the following links: http://www.jungtosociety.org http://www.pomnyun.com https://www.instagram.com/jungto.society/ https://www.instagram.com/ven.pomnyun.sunim/ https://www.facebook.com/pomnyundailyquote https://insighttimer.com/jungtokorea  🔻 All Jungto Society’s social platforms: http://linktr.ee/jungtoint
🔹Ven Pomnyun’s Dharma Q&A 2023. 8. 5 🔹Question : I have a goal of impacting the world on a global scale which has involved several reliminary teps including becoming a positive influence for everyone I meet and encounter. I found that impacting veryone around me has been necessary for my own growth because the people I interact with can influence me as well. I have successfully motivated many people to live prosperous, fulfilling lives. But I have encountered many disconnected people either under trauma or suffering from depression or doubt. They reject the most basic lessons of creating inner happiness and fulfillment. And I believe that they don't mean to do this but instead, I believe that they do this because of loss of identity and they believe that they don't deserve to be happy. So, here's my question. How can one start to believe in their own happiness, believe they deserve it and obtain the courage and knowledge to start growing happiness and compassion for oneself when their life views have become badly misshapen by trauma, self doubt, or depression. I know that working towards something in this magnitude is one of the hardest things that one can do. And I want to help others achieve this substantial goal, people who have been lost and forgotten about. Thank you very much. 🔻Jungto Dharma School (Introduction to Buddhism): https://www.jungtosociety.org/jungto-dharma-school-online-course/  🔻 Find more at the following links: http://www.jungtosociety.org http://www.pomnyun.com https://www.instagram.com/jungto.society/ https://www.instagram.com/ven.pomnyun.sunim/ https://www.facebook.com/pomnyundailyquote https://insighttimer.com/jungtokorea  🔻 All Jungto Society’s social platforms: http://linktr.ee/jungtoint

🔹Ven Pomnyun’s Dharma Q&A Selection from Casual Conversation with Ven. Pomnyun Sunim (October 10, 2021) 🔹Question: Sometimes at school, whenever my friends are hurt, I always go and may help them, but then some of their friends just get there, and then I slack. Can I help too? They just slack. I don't know what to do. If I try and tell the teacher, they just say. Sometimes I overreact, so what can I do in that situation?   🔻Jungto Dharma School (Introduction to Buddhism): https://www.jungtosociety.org/jungto-dharma-school-online-course/  🔻 Find more at the following links: http://www.jungtosociety.org http://www.pomnyun.com https://www.instagram.com/jungto.society/ https://www.instagram.com/ven.pomnyun.sunim/ https://www.facebook.com/pomnyundailyquote https://insighttimer.com/jungtokorea  🔻 All Jungto Society’s social platforms: http://linktr.ee/jungtoint
🔹Ven Pomnyun’s Dharma Q&A Selection from a Dharma Q&A session at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Sunnyvale, California (Nov. 8, 2014) 🔹Question: As we live, we encounter problems such as love and betrayal. We encounter people that betray you like friends, business partners or even your loved ones. For me, it's very hard to forgive regardless of what happened. A lot of my friends tell me that I should for give the person regardless of what happened. I think betrayal is worse than getting love because betrayal means that you were being loved and thrown back. I tried to understand that we should forgive. But, then am I wrong? Animals don't forgive each other. Animals attack back if they were being betrayed. Am I wrong if I have no feeling, if I have no reason to forgive the person back?   🔻Jungto Dharma School (Introduction to Buddhism): https://www.jungtosociety.org/jungto-dharma-school-online-course/  🔻 Find more at the following links: http://www.jungtosociety.org http://www.pomnyun.com https://www.instagram.com/jungto.society/ https://www.instagram.com/ven.pomnyun.sunim/ https://www.facebook.com/pomnyundailyquote https://insighttimer.com/jungtokorea  🔻 All Jungto Society’s social platforms: http://linktr.ee/jungtoint

🔹Ven Pomnyun’s Dharma Q&A Selection from a Dharma Q&A session at Harvard University (Sep. 20, 2017) 🔹Question : My question is about relationships. With people in our lives, there can be people who are very, for the lack of a better word, toxic. Sometimes we just give up, try to forgive them. At that point, we don’t hate them anymore. We don’t dislike them anymore. We just leave them out of our lives. I was wondering how you would feel about that? Would you insist that we try to remediate that relationship? Or do you feel that just leaving them out of our lives, letting them lead their own lives apart from yours, is that okay? 🔻Jungto Dharma School (Introduction to Buddhism): https://www.jungtosociety.org/jungto-dharma-school-online-course/  🔻 Find more at the following links: http://www.jungtosociety.org http://www.pomnyun.com https://www.instagram.com/jungto.society/ https://www.instagram.com/ven.pomnyun.sunim/ https://www.facebook.com/pomnyundailyquote https://insighttimer.com/jungtokorea  🔻 All Jungto Society’s social platforms: http://linktr.ee/jungtoint
🔹Ven Pomnyun’s Dharma Q&A Selection from a Dharma Q&A session at Jogye-sa Temple, Seoul, Korea (Jun. 15, 2018) 🔹Question: I'm an Australian university student and I come to Korea to see my parents because they moved here two years ago, after every semester. So I've lived in Australia since age one until now and I study there. The issue that I'm facing is that I love Australia, but I keep feeling that I am less Australian now compared to my peers and my friends. Because my new home is in Korea now. And after I catch a plane to go home and everyone else lives down the road. I am facing a bit of an identity problem because of that as well. So I don’t know how I should deal with that. 🔻Jungto Dharma School (Introduction to Buddhism): https://www.jungtosociety.org/jungto-dharma-school-online-course/  🔻 Find more at the following links: http://www.jungtosociety.org http://www.pomnyun.com https://www.instagram.com/jungto.society/ https://www.instagram.com/ven.pomnyun.sunim/ https://www.facebook.com/pomnyundailyquote https://insighttimer.com/jungtokorea  🔻 All Jungto Society’s social platforms: http://linktr.ee/jungtoint
🔹Ven Pomnyun’s Dharma Q&A Selection from a Dharma Q&A session at Southdale Library, Minneapolis, Minnesota (Sep 12, 2018) 🔹Question:  I have studied a lot of different philosophical spiritual practices and religions. I come to the conclusion that a lot of our sufferings are from fixation on materialism from my understanding. Attachment to things, attachment to homes, attachment to people, attachment to money. At an early age I realized there was more to this world than what you can feel, the tangible, the material. I always thought I was a seeker of something beyond the material world. When I see people suffering because of materialism, I don’t know how to help them. I don’t know how to help them in their suffering of attachment and seeking materialism, money, greed. I see it in my way coming and I see them suffering because of it. It;e not to say that you don’t need money or things. Obviously everyone needs money and things. That’s not point. I am just wondering how one deals with being surrounded by people that you see them suffering and they cause suffering to others with their attachment to things, money, materialism and creating suffering in the process of that.  🔻Jungto Dharma School (Introduction to Buddhism): https://www.jungtosociety.org/jungto-dharma-school-online-course/  🔻 Find more at the following links: http://www.jungtosociety.org http://www.pomnyun.com https://www.instagram.com/jungto.society/ https://www.instagram.com/ven.pomnyun.sunim/ https://www.facebook.com/pomnyundailyquote https://insighttimer.com/jungtokorea  🔻 All Jungto Society’s social platforms: http://linktr.ee/jungtoint

🔹Ven Pomnyun’s Dharm Q&A " Why Do We Get Bored of Things?” Selection from a Dharma Q&A session at Jogye-sa Temple, Seoul, South Korea (June 15, 2018) 🔹Question:   I was wondering about why we get bored of things. I have smart phone, I bought it last year, but now I'm bored of it. I have a girlfriend now. But maybe in one year or maybe in three years, I will be bored and maybe move on. I just wanted to know, why humans always wait for something to happen, wait for something new to arrive? Why we cannot be satisfied with stability and just enjoy the things we have without having more? 🔻Jungto Dharma School (Introduction to Buddhism): https://www.jungtosociety.org/jungto-dharma-school-online-course/  🔻 Find more at the following links: http://www.jungtosociety.org http://www.pomnyun.com https://www.instagram.com/jungto.society/ https://www.instagram.com/ven.pomnyun.sunim/ https://www.facebook.com/pomnyundailyquote https://insighttimer.com/jungtokorea  🔻 All Jungto Society’s social platforms: http://linktr.ee/jungtoint
🔹Ven Pomnyun’s Dharma  Q&A “I am being too judgmental” Selection from Casual Conversation with Ven. Pomnyun Sunim (November 14, 2020) 🔹Question:   Hello Sunim, I've just graduated from something equivalent to Korean Middle School and will be going to high school soon. Today, my worry is about how I can be less judgmental and become more understanding to others. I think I tend to be quite judgmental when it comes to making friends and during this process, I tend to lose a lot of good friends. I tend to make a judgment too fast and I think I know everything about that person before I really make friends with that person. Maybe this is because of social media. So how can I stop being so judgmental and be more open to making new friends? I know I will benefit a lot from it. #Judgmental #makingfriends 🔻Jungto Dharma School (Introduction to Buddhism): https://www.jungtosociety.org/jungto-dharma-school-online-course/  🔻 Find more at the following links: http://www.jungtosociety.org http://www.pomnyun.com https://www.instagram.com/jungto.society/ https://www.instagram.com/ven.pomnyun.sunim/ https://www.facebook.com/pomnyundailyquote https://insighttimer.com/jungtokorea  🔻 All Jungto Society’s social platforms: http://linktr.ee/jungtoint
