Description

As a beauty & health journalist working on mags like Vogue and Glamour and as founder of Beauticate I've been reporting on external beauty for over 20 years. After a spiral into anxiety and burnout landed me in a treatment centre, I came out with a mission to help others heal. On Beautiful Inside, celebrities, experts & thought leaders share own their stories of mental health, growth, and self care. We'll go inside their homes, routines and inner lives, discussing the science and psychology of beauty and self care to give you the tools to look and feel the best you ever have - inside and out.

For this episode, we're turning the tables and I'm the one getting grilled. My dear friend Georgie, an amazing journalist and the editor of Marie Claire suggested I do an episode where I share the backstory of how this podcast came to be and the experiences that have shaped its purpose and direction. I also figured that if I expect my guests to be completely vulnerable and bare all, it’s only fair that I share my own story... This interview is deeply personal for me. I open up about my childhood and the lead up to my decision to go to a rehab facility for depression and anxiety. Thankfully, Georgie was there to support me through it all. Georgie and I first met over 16 years ago at Vogue, where we quickly became close friends. We're godmothers to each other’s children and have been through all the hard stuff together. Georgie is not only a fantastic journalist but also the former host of her own podcast and founder of The Grace Tales, a media site dedicated to motherhood. I've always admired her creativity, determination, and entrepreneurial spirit and she constantly encourages me to step out of my comfort zone. In this intimate conversation, we reminisce about our magazine days, explore why I left Vogue to start Beauticate, and dive into the pivotal, life-changing experiences that led to the creation of this podcast. It's a lot to cover, but I'm hoping that by sharing my story, others will feel validated, and even encouraged. So many of us suffer in a silent vortex of emotion, feeling that if we speak up or ask for help we'll be labeled weak or problematic. But these feelings and experiences are more widespread and universal than we think, and opening up the dialogue around mental health can only help us feel more accepted and heard. Beautiful People, I'm beyond excited (and quietly freaking out) to share something deeply personal and incredibly close to my heart with you all today. Beautiful Inside by Beauticate is finally here, marking a new chapter for us at Beauticate. This isn't just another podcast—it's a journey into what truly makes us beautiful, inside and out. Last year, life threw me some unexpected challenges that left me feeling like I couldn't keep up. After years of pushing through, I made the terrifying decision to check myself into a treatment centre to deal with anxiety and some hard stuff I went through as a kid. It wasn't easy, but it was transformative. This experience became the driving force behind Beautiful Inside, where I aim to destigmatise mental health discussions and empower all of us to embrace our vulnerabilities with grace. In this podcast, I'll be sharing candid stories—my own and those of incredible guests like Trinny Woodall, Pip Edwards, and Poppy King—who have faced their own battles and emerged stronger. Together, we'll cover their mental health journeys, self-care and daily routines the profound link between inner peace and outer radiance. We'll also be talking to experts in aesthetics, longevity, wellness and mindset to uncover their secrets to looking and feeling our best. But that's not all—what sets Beautiful Inside apart is the way we will bring the stories to life. As a video pod, we'll be filming in the very spaces that define our guests' lives, from their pantries to walk-in wardrobes, surrounded by all their personal stories and treasures - look out for our Sacred Six (the products and practices our guests swear by for inner and outer wellbeing). This podcast marks a new era for Beauticate, where we continue to celebrate resilience, authenticity, and the courage to live boldly. Thank you all for being part of this incredible community. I hope Beautiful Inside will inspire, empower, and uplift you, just as it has me. So, grab your favourite beverage and join me on this beautiful journey inward. Don't forget to subscribe and leave a review on Apple Podcasts—it means the world to me! 🎧💖 With gratitude and excitement, Sigourney xx
Welcome to my interview with the remarkable Trinny Woodall. Trinny's life has been devoted to style and beauty: first as the co-host of the hit show What Not To Wear and now as the founder of Trinny London. At 60, Trinny is a social media force, sharing daily outfits, workouts, and beauty tips. Her loyal Trinny Tribe adores her, and she champions women over 40, giving them the attention they deserve. Despite her success, Trinny's journey wasn't easy. In her twenties, she struggled with addiction, but after two stints in rehab and years of daily NA meetings, she has been sober ever since. She also tragically lost her ex-husband and the father of her child, Lyla, a few years ago to suicide. In this episode, Trinny shares candid stories, from her early makeovers and entrepreneurial ventures to dealing with acne and the emotional toll of 16 rounds of IVF before having her daughter, Lyla. Her honesty and energy are inspiring, and her reflections offer valuable lessons in resilience and self-care. If you enjoy today’s episode, please rate and review us on iTunes.
