Today’s episode is hosted by Antonio Guitérrez, who will be speaking with Fernando Morales, current PhD candidate researching Ecosystem Restoration at the University of Granada and coordinator of the project, “Cabulat Initiative.” In this episode, Fernando shares his reflections on COP 27 which occurred in Egypt in November, 2022, and the role of youth movements for climate on advocating for higher education to push for nature-positive change. 

As the climate crisis becomes more and more pressing, there is no way to keep ignoring that if we want to address the environmental topic we need to expand our focus on many other issues of social justice. Studying abroad is an incredible resource to open people’s eyes and minds, but we can always improve - and will need to update - our methods of delivering study abroad experiences. Antonio Gutiérrez Pérez shares his ideas on how we need to change study abroad for the better through regenerativity. Join CANIE co-host Amy Marcus for a conversation with Suzanne Willever and Rebecca Collins, who share with us all about their collaboration across departments at Temple University. In the second episode of the #TravelwithCANIE series, CANIE co-host Kelly speaks with Mariëlle van Es from Leiden University about Mariëlle’s effort to convince her colleagues to travel with her to EAIE in Barcelona, 2022, by train from the Netherlands. Mariëlle shares the rationale she used to convince her colleagues to make the journey by train, and convince her supervisor to fund the tickets, as well as how her previous experiences using rail travel helped her make the case.

Welcome to Season 2 of the CANIE Climate Dialogues! The first episode of the season focuses on #TravelwithCANIE, an initiative launched out of the Europe chapter in the spring of 2022. #TravelwithCANIE focuses on traveling sustainably to conferences, a feat which has been accomplished by over 50 travelers as they made their way by train and boat to the EAIE and EMEA Forum on Education Abroad conferences in the Fall of 2022.

COIL, short for Collaborative Online International Learning, is a hot topic of conversation. In this Episode, CJ is joined by CANIE Co-Host, and CANIE Summit [Europe] Presenter, Simone Hackett - senior lecturer and head of internationalization at The Hague University in The Netherlands. Simone has worked with COIL since 2012 and in a surprise twist that CJ did not expect, also worked with guest Keiko Ikeda, Professor in the Division of International Affairs, and KU-COIL Coordinator at Kansai University on a COIL collaboration! In this episode Simon and Keiko introduce the topic of COIL, the opportunities it presents for internationalization at home, subject matter well-suited to COIL, as well as best practices for getting COIL embedded in an institution.
