Description

Chica and the Man came about when podcasters and authors, Sonia Iris Lozada and Alex Greenwood met on Alex’s podcast Mysterious Goings On. On his podcast, they laughed, joked, and discussed many subjects besides the reason she was there in the first place, to be interviewed regarding her books. They had so much fun that Sonia had Alex on her podcast Poetic Resurrection. A friendship developed and here we are with Chica and the Man.

It's the end of a journey for Chica & the Man. We've been working together for two years and talking about our separate creative projects on each other's podcasts. First, Sonia Iris Lozada from Poetic Resurrection and Overheard at Chica's Café was an invited guest on Alex Greenwood's Mysterious Goings On show to discuss her book Follow: Akashic Dreaming Through Time. Then, Alex came on The Poetic Resurrection Podcast to talk about his writing journey and John Pilate Mystery Series. Now, it's time to say farewell. Sonia is devoting more attention to her acting and writing along with her pods, while Alex is creating another podcast focused on true crime in Kansas City as well as continuing to write. Here's this month's update for Chica & the Man while we're on hiatus. I'd like to direct you towards our February 2023 episode about Writing and encourage you to give it a listen. In that episode, we discuss various aspects of writing. We address AI, which is one of the Writer's Guild Strike negotiations topics. I'm an actor with SAG-AFTRA and we are currently on strike, along with the Writers Guild. So, in this month's update, I'd like to express my admiration for the Writer's Guild and their strength. SAG-AFTRA is now on strike, and many of the Hollywood unions have reached unparalleled levels of unity. In this video, Negotiating Committee Co-Chair Chris Keyser discusses what this means and how we should proceed. https://www.wgacontract2023.org/videos/writing-is-our-home The Writers Guild of America negotiation includes several important components: episodic television, streaming channels, artificial intelligence, pension benefits and health. We're on hiatus for the summer. Us writers have to get some work done. Sonia is reviewing three of the most popular episodes on Chica and the Man. Episode 16: Writing - Alex and I discuss the challenges and joys of writing. https://spotifyanchor-web.app.link/e/53nYLaBA3Ab Episode 09: Chica and the Wo-Man. Alex was away on a work project for several months and during these months we had guest co-host. If you're from Chicago you'll enjoy this episode. We talk about growing up in the wonderful city and all the crazy experiences. https://spotifyanchor-web.app.link/e/cCDzceBA3Ab Episode 15: Goals and Many Other Things: This episode Alex and I discuss goals because we refuse to talk about New Year's resolutions. We know most people don't stick to them including ourselves. We thought we would title them goals, just to see how long we would stick to it. We didn't. https://spotifyanchor-web.app.link/e/KuRuhbBA3Ab
In this episode, we give our two-cents worth on AI - how we use it as writers. We touch on the concerns of AI regarding the Writers Guild strike. How we, as writers use it. Yes, it is a suitable tool for grammar checks and getting a story idea when stuck, but we both find it lacking for story, plot and creating emotion. We are going on hiatus for the summer. But we're not forgetting about you and plan on doing the best of during the summer and for fun we talked about doing some live episodes. We are going on hiatus because we both need time to write and Sonia will work on some of her skits. Vacations- YES. Sonia went to Mexico and Alex will be off to an island by Savannah for his vacation. Stay tuned, have an amazing summer and enjoy the best of Chica and the Man podcast. Many Blessings!

This is our introduction to The Chica and the Man Podcast. Poet and actress Sonia Iris Lozada met author and podcaster Alex Greenwood as a guest on his show, Mysterious Goings On. The pair recognized their chemistry immediately, and soon, Greenwood guested on Lozada's show, Poetic Resurrection. However, they have never met in person. "We just clicked. Alex and I became fast friends," Lozada said. The pair quickly settled on a cheeky name for their podcast, Chica and the Man, a riff on the 1970s hit TV show about a Latino man and his white friend. In this case, a reference to Lozada's heritage. "And I'm 'the man' purely by virtue of my sex," Greenwood said. "Sonia and I want the name of the show to suit our attitude, to be playful. We're pretty sure listeners of a certain age will get the pun." Please listen in. This month Alex and I discuss—well everything. Our intent was to discuss goals, but if you’ve listened to any of our episodes, we go off on tangents. We initially were going to review the goals we set in December, but we discussed what is listed below because we’re all over the place. The links are listed below after the episode notes. 1. Unfortunately, this month my mother passed and we briefly discuss what happened. Alex was so kind, endearing, and supportive. You can hear a dedication episode at Poetic Resurrection podcast. 2. We discuss short stories and films that were made from them, i.e., Arrival & The Martian. Alex is also a quarter-finalist in the Screencraft Cinematic Short Story Writing Competition. He’ll find out in February if he makes it to the semi-finalist. 3. We discuss a story I’m writing about the Amazon and the Mayan exhibit. 4. Sonia’s Overheard at Chica’s Café’s guest this month is Denise Sanchez of Bosch Legacy. BTW, Bosch Legacy is one of Alex’s favorite shows. 5. Mysterious Goings on and PR After Hours are keeping Alex busy and they are progressing. 6. We mention celebrities (Al Pacino & Sly Stallone) we’ve met and shows we’re watching. https://overheardatchicascafe.com/chicas-cafe-podcast/ https://poeticresurrection.com/podcast/ https://mgopod.com/ https://prafterhours.com/

The month of November the theme is Gratitude. Alex and Sonia talk about Thanksgiving, Christmas and being grateful for all of life's experiences big or small. We talk about cooking for the holidays - turkeys, lechon and coquito recipes. What and what not to do on a podcast (we really like this subject). Writing books and just grateful for those around us. Tune in we laugh (as usual) and just have a good time.
Alex is back! We’re catching up. As many of you know, Alex has been on hiatus during the summer. Last time we recorded an episode was in July, which I released during the summer. We discuss our summer, life, careers and, as always, have a few laughs and, of course, we banter. We discuss our other podcast. Alex has his Mysteries Goings On and PR After Hours. My other two podcasts are Poetic Resurrection and Overheard at Chica’s Café. Both have been fun and exciting. It’s great to catch up with Alex. We’ve missed talking to each other. Alex has had book signings and has had a great summer with his family. Now he’s back to work in his PR firm and enjoying life. He working on a new book and writing a screenplay. I’ve been busy with auditions and I booked a Bosch Legacy episode to be released in the Spring of 2023. I’ve done several print ads which I can’t disclose until they’re publicized. But one was Walmart because that one has already passed.

009 Chica & the Wo-Man

Alex is out this month and we have guest co-host Evelyn Eccard. If you've listened to Poetic Resurrection, she has been a guest there. She's my sister, so we had a great time bantering, laughing, and reminiscing about growing up in Chicago. Anyone from Chicago could relate to the antics we experienced. It was Father's Day when we recorded this episode, so a Belated Happy Father's Day. Some of the topics/antics we cover are: In our youth - Evelyn in a marching band, Jose/Papo's sleeping cot (rollaway bed), playing three-outs (like baseball), and enjoying an opened water hydrate (pump) on a hot summer day. Ice skating at Commercial Park. Teenage years: Navy Pier, Chicago beaches, drinking age, and dancing. Catholic school uniforms, fashion design, and working at Woolworths on Michigan Avenue. Miscellaneous Chicago stories: Punk days, roller skating and rollerblading College and careers, and pivoting careers. The bottom line is to start living. Don't wait to start your dreams and careers. Much success.
Overheard at Chica’s Cafe Listening back to this month’s episode as I edited, it felt like I was overhearing two friends talk about what has happened in the past month. This month and any other months that sound like you’re overhearing us talk will be at the non-existing Chica’s café. Where you have permission to overhear our conversation. We actually hope you listen in all the time. This month Alex speaks about grieving a collaboration with a producer who recently passed away. I address acting and its pitfalls. Alex and I address some instances of writing and how you should hon your skills before going to the big city like Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York.
