It's been a while. Hello and welcome. I've had a really healthy break from podcasting and social media for the past 5 months. It wasn't intentional and I didn't even plan to leave it this long to record another episode, i just went with the flow and saw where it would take me. Today felt like the right time to get back behind the mic again and it feels great. I cannot tell you how good it feels to switch off your socials, have you tried it? Plus, instead of posting, just watch and observe what others post about, why they post and what re-actions they are looking for from their actions. I've been taking it all too seriously in recent months. Obsessing over posts, trying for hours to come up with compelling, creative content and then on some occasions almost posting borderline BS stories, just to seem interesting. On reflection, theres definitely a madness in todays world of social media in comparison to how we used to communicate with family and friends 20 years ago. I'm still on social media, so you can still reach out and give me a follow, details below. However, from here on i will not be chasing the likes, the follows or going over kill on the hashtags. Your vibe attracts your tribe, so here goes. Have a chuffing brilliant day! Have you ever heard the saying "it takes a village to raise a child"? Great saying, but are you fortunate to have a village? And in this day and age where its the norm to move cities for work, education or love, where's our village then? Louise Salih is mum to 3 girls and works full time. Like any parent she's juggled, spun and multi tasked the hell out of work/home/parent life. Earlier this year, she questioned what was the village from this age old saying, where was her village? Did she even have a village? And how does one go about finding a village? From this came her podcast "Mums, work & Chaos", which Louise launched in February 2023. It's a hub for Mum's looking for advice, reassurance and inspiration whislt trying to embark on the journey of life and motherhood. Like the say, 'no-one gives you a handbook'. Mums, work and Chaos podcast is full of incredible guest speakers helping and guiding your through the unknown waters of parenthood and Louise is a Gem. She's honestly like a breath of fresh air and keeps things real, honest and achievable. Theres no mum shaming here. You can find Louise on insta and her podcast is on all major platforms. If you're a parent who's struggled with finding their village, look no further, help is at hand. This week has been a rollercoaster of emotions. Not only is your child starting school a 'nerve racking' experience, but when they're starting school and non-verbal it feels 10 times worse. I have had sleepless night and all sorts of scenario's have been flooding through my mind "what if this?" "What if that?" This week has been tears of joy, relief, pride... you name it i've been through it. but watching my little man take it all in his stride has made me chuffed to bits, not just for me as his mum, but for him, because i know how incredible he is, he just needs the right environment to shine. Plus, i ended up in hospital, take a listen, long story, but the 'gunt's' still here! Sending love to all the mummies and daddies who have been through the mill this week. When i ask you to reach out, i genuinely mean it. I love hearing form people who are listening and enjoying the podcast, especially when they put themselves forward to be a guest speaker too. Emma did just that, we have never met and she dropped me a message introducing herself and putting herself forward to be a guest on the podcast. Emma is a dietitian, yet hasn't always been. She has over her own hurdles and adversity and is now helping other parents who are being challenged by 'little fussy eaters'. Can you relate? Emma has some great free material which you can access, so its certainly worth a listen if you have a child who is weaning or going through that 'beige phase' currently. Theres hope! Reach out to Emma below, she welcomes a message. And as i always say, please do reach out, its wonderful to hear from people all over the world. Speak soon. I know that the title alone of this episode will potentially trigger people. Its a word which i think is being over used and many times in the wrong context. I'm not taking your triggers away from you, but there are many who are using it far too loosely and almost as a fashion accessory. There are a few other words in our modern day language of 2023 which are starting to niggle too. Do you feel the same? Reach out on the links below and share your thoughts. Or, would you be interested in begin a guest speaker? Links to socials are below. Thank you for taking a listen, have you rated and subscribed yet? Alison Blackler is a mind coach, facilitator and published author. My first connection with Alison was through her book 'A path Travelled, How to make sense of your life.' In fact the story behind our connection is just bonkers, wonderfully bonkers. Alison has worked with individuals, groups and businesses for over 20 years, helping those who want to work for on the solution and not the problem. Her business is called '2minds' which you can find on the links below, where you can also learn more about her Master Class programme, which is video lead, for those who prefer to watch, rather than read. This episode is a wonderful conversation with a lady who genuinely wants to help others through her own journey, findings and experineces. As promised links to connect with Alison are below. If you'd like to be a guest speaker on the podcast, drop me a message or a 'reach out' below, look forward to it. How often do you 'fall out' with your wardrobe? Constantly for me, even more so since becoming a mum Nobody tells you your body goes back together in a different place? Meet todays guest speaker Kate Harrison, colour and style specialist, 'A dopamine dressing expert." Which is a title she can carry with great conviction as i have seen her in action and she is amazing! As most of my guest speakers, Kate popped up onto my insta feed and it was her style and use of colour that really caught my attention. Here was a woman, wearing fabulous affordable clothing making it look effortless. There's no judgement with Kate, no sense of ego... even though she knows more than anyone i have ever met regarding colour and style. She simply just wants her clients to feel incredible, boosting confidence and positivity from the outside in. I know you are going to love this episode, it was a pleasure chatting to 'Kate and sharing her story, i am so chuffed to meet amazing women like this who are helping other women feel fabulous. Its been a while... I've been organising everything that goes with the re-brand as-well as taking a family holiday to Cornwall. I am absolutely shattered! I am also full of cold, so apologies for the snotty nose, but i really do need a holiday after this holiday, hence the episode name. Lots of fun things going on though and some huge milestones for Roman, which makes my nose scrunch and my heart smile. Plus, hilarious going on's at my mum and dad's place, who were dog sitting whilst we were away. Reach out on socials below, love to hear from you. Re-brand in process, and a full explanation as to why i decided to wave bye to "Adventures of a Geriatric Mum" and hello to "Chuffed". I'm so proud to be a geriatric mum, i always will be. However, the name "Adventures of a Geriatric Mum" was more of a personal joke and without intending to, I've turned people off. It's still the same podcast and the same host, just with a bit more sexy. Thank you so much for listening and coming back for more. I'm so excited to be re-branding. Flip flop weather is upon us in the UK, possibly my favourite time of year. However, my feet are far from flip flop ready! They're shocking in fact, so bad that i'm even embarrassed to take them to a nail salon. haha. Whoever invented socks and sandals is clearly a genius. Since when did crocs become so cool? I was mocked years ago for my crocs and now they're literally all the rage, with them even being a favourite for the blokes!! I'm stunned. Or am i completely wrong and are they still a fashion faux pas? We have also been swarmed with flies and mosquitos AGAIN for another year, i make it no secret, i absolute hate flies! They poo and vomit over everything. They are horrendous! So, i am looking for ways to clear the vile beasts from my house. And the big rebrand is happening. Still the same great conversation and fabulous guests, just a new name and look that will keep you smiling and just the look of the word makes you feel great!! Watch this space, its taking me a while to pull it all together! Thank you for always listening. Reach out on socials below. After 2 1/2 weeks, i finally woke up in my own bed this morning. Roman is most definitely having a leap. He's beemn having restless nights and a nightmare, which you could tell scared the life out of the poor little guy. It was so upsetting to see him so upset in the middle of the night. Especially as he can't tell me what was scaring him. Bless him. I have never been a fan of scary movies. I was traumatised as a kid when i begged my brothers to let me watch some horrendous budget 80's horror, which scarred me for life. I still, however like to watch the fairly mild ones and with the help of my trusty finger fan, this is made bearable... it'll make sense. And if its soooo scary that i know it'll play on my mind when i sleep and give me nightmares, then theres alway some 'Pride and Prejudice' or old school 'Disney' before bed! Make sure you're following me on socials below. Theres some really exciting changes happening and i'm starting to talk about it on insta... link below. I've been meaning to record this episode for a while now, but have yet to feel the need to share this with everyone as its about my little man Roman. The reason why I started my podcast was to break down taboo's surrounding infertility and i keep coming across more and more taboo's as this podcast grows. Roman is now 4 yrs old and is non verbal. I don't really like using the term "non-verbal" as he isn't really. He can say some words, when he wants to and he babbles and is vey expressive all day long. He loves making noises and chatting away to himself. What i find shocking is how some people react when Roman doesn't respond. "Someones grumpy today" seems to be the most common response he gets, to which i always reply "he's not Grumpy, he's non verbal". This then leads to all sorts of diagnosis' from the general public, who don't know me or my son and feel the need to share what they would do. Awkward! Roman is delayed in speech and communication, but he understands everything you say to him and is very aware of energy and really picks up on good vibes. He starts school in September, which is scaring the life out fo me, so i am doing everything i can do, to make sure he has all the help he needs. Please reach out on socials below if you can relate to what i am sharing today, i would love to heard from you. Easter over Christmas all day for me. I love Easter. The lighter evenings, the spring weather and the outdoor fun. Its been a fab Easter weekend for us, complete with our first Easter Egg hunt in the village, organised by me! I out did myself with my Girl guide and Blue Peter skills. In fact my wife and mothership points have been off the scale this weekend, by getting up at 4am and throwing a shoulder of lamb in the slow cooker for Sunday lunch. Hope you enjoyed the Easter weekend, if it's something you also celebrate. I've a new muff after Roman chewed my other one and partially ate it! haha. I know the thought of sponge and cotton wool between the teeth can make some cringe, not my son. Plus, any tips on how to get rid of flies, i'd be grateful for the share. Since the death of our utility room spider, Terry, we have been invaded by flies and i absolutely hate them. They Poo and puke on everything, they're vile. Reach out on socials below. My muff is in pieces... it'll al make sense once you start listening. I'm still clearing out clothes and baby toys and walkers and jumperoo's etc and came across my wedding dress, which, after 9 years, i can't seem to part with. I loved my wedding dress and it was such an important part of my wedding plans, but now its just sat, dirty in a cupboard and i've never taken it out. I hope its still there! haha. Any ideas welcome. Do i sell it? The sun is shining today and for me this is a huge relief as i have really struggled with the winter months this year, it feels as though the cold weather has lasted forever and my feet are craving some flipflop action, life really is better in flipflops. Are you feeling a bit stagnant? frustrated? lonely? Are your group of friends a reflection of who you are? or who you want to be? When my career in radio ended and i embarked on my journey with IVF, i literally squirrelled myself away from everyone, even the women who i had the most in common with and could relate to. Why? i don't know, i was scared, confused, desperate to be a parent and never imagined that i would have been in that situation. In launching my new business in the car trade, i've realised i ned to put myself out there again. Yes, i'm scared and feeling a little awkward and uncomfortable, but i'm fully aware that this is what needs to be done to achieve my dreams and goals. Do you go networking? Do you enjoy the company of others who are on your wavelength? Networking is so powerful and can lead to so many new friendships, opportunities and connections. Just from getting out of my own way and booking onto an event last year, it has opened up some incredible doors for me. Including access to the fully funded business course, i am now on... Who knew eh? Whether you want shifts in your business or personal life, i highly recommend putting yourself out there and start raising your A game.Other highlights of todays episode... Roman is 4! xxxReach out on socials below. I am a big believer in just 'Putting it out there to the universe", I'm not great at 'Trusting the universe to make it happen."... just yet. Towards the end of last year I started networking with my new business. It's something that i have not done for a long time and was therefore a little apprehensive and nervous. On the way there in the car i decided to do some affirmations, asking for new energy, new connections, opportunities and signs. It was at this event where i met todays guest speaker and a couple of other guest speakers were there too. And I met a gentleman who introduced me to the current business course, which i am now on. Who knew eh?! I was so grateful to be sat on a table of hilariously funny, smart women at this event and sat next to todays guest speaker. Judi Hastings is always immaculately dressed, she oozes class and yet has the most dirtiest laugh and sense of humour! She is infectious! Judi was sharing the work that she does with clients and corporate surrounding the menopause. Hang on a minute, i'm going to be going through this in a few years. So i listened. Judi speaks from the heart, having gone through the menopause twice. She has years of experience in the coaching field under her belt and the more and more events i attend, I keep bumping into people who know Judi, or are connected to her in some way. She is so passionate about her work from coaching to retreats and most recently i met one of her personal clients who described her to me as 'just amazing'. I am so grateful for you to meet Judi, she is relatable, caring and best of all bags of fun. This is an opportunity for you to learn how 'The change' which effects all women is not the end. It feels like i've been hibernating. I've taken a big step back from many things so far this year and its only January, well, the end of January. One huge decision that Scott and i have come to so far this year is that we are not going to go ahead with another round of IVF. Our journey was not a simple one to parent hood and If you've listened to the 3 parts of 'My Journey to Motherhood' you'll understand. This next step of our journey was to embark on egg donor overseas and subconsciously i have made the decision not to continue. I feel like i have failed myself in some ways, but i know that i am on the right path, as i have not even attempted to make any appointments and the thought of going through those same emotions again for a 4th time fills me with discomfort. I am so blessed to be a Mum to Roman and to be honest, having him is a miracle in itself. I've only realised whilst recording this episode just how absent i'd been from social media too, but i am grateful for the break... even though i have probably screwed up the algorithm... oh well. Life really is a rollercoaster. Phew! If you're not already, i'd appreciate a follow on socials below. Thanks for listening. Happy New Year! The tree is finally down and back in the loft till next year, be it a little bit damaged from too much Roman love. Easter eggs are already on the shelves in the shops and the fat loss adverts are on overdrive!! Which is why I just had to call this episode 'New Year, New Me... oh piss off!' It feels like as soon as the clock struck 12pm on the 31st of December, i've seen nothing but weight loss ads, shred plans, sign up here, colon cleansers, pretty much everything to make you feel like crap after a little over indulgence over Christmas and this is where i say, no more. I used to fall victim to this every year. I'd set resolutions, only to break them in a matter of days/ weeks. I'd buy a magic tea, to make me shit my pants in hope of losing the mince pie ass i'd grown from Christmas and i'd hashtag the life out of #newyearnewme ... but whats wrong with the old me? Yep, i'm done with that now. I had a lovely Christmas and New Year, my healthy option this year is to declutter and clear out some of the junk i have accumulated in recent years emotional and physical, i'm also going to goal map, which i haven't done for a long time. Have you ever heard of Goal Mapping? oh, take a listen, its incredible how it worked for me and its a great way to get your brain in the game and get creative. Yep, this year i refuse to send myself on a guilt trip to "shamesville" I've laughed, eaten, over indulged and had an amazing time with family and friends in the process. I wish you all the best for the year ahead and i hope you continue to stay on this journey with me. Sending so much love, reach out on the links below.
