In this episode, host Lee Ann Pepper broaches the controversial topic of politics. Reunite, Don't Debate: Your Guide To A Politic Fre Class Reunion. We'll explore why it's essential to avoid politics discussions during your reunion and share pctical tips and tricks to divert the conversation if it starts heading that way.  Why avoid politics? It's important to drive unity over division, respectful reconnection and creating a welcoming environment.  To divert conversations away from politics, you can steer toward shared memories by bringing up fun and nostalgic topics that everyone can relate to, such as favorite teachers, memorable events, or hilarious moments from school. Introducing fun activities can also help keep everyone engaged and focused on the event rather than personal opinions; consider games, photo booths, or trivia about your school days. Preparing neutral topics ahead of time is another good strategy. Have a few conversation starters ready, such as asking about hobbies, family, or travel experiences. If politics do come up, change the subject gracefully by gently steering the conversation back to reunion-related topics with phrases like "Let's catch up on what we've been up to since high school!" Finally, enlist help by encouraging fellow organizers and friends to help keep conversations light and enjoyable.

Could the classic TV sitcoms from the 70s and 80s teach us a thing or two about the complexities of race and society today? Wistfully, I recount the days when shows like "All in the Family" and "The Jeffersons" weren't just sources of laughter, but powerful catalysts for conversations on race, class, and the American dream. Our latest episode is a homage to these cultural touchstones, an exploration into how they mirrored societal shifts and prompted us to confront the issues of the day. We look back at the impact of these shows, discussing the evolution from the racial tensions that underscored the past to a time when diversity in television was celebrated. Shifting gears, we grapple with the generational divide and the role of Generation X in today’s societal climate. It's a candid heart-to-heart, touching on the complexities of identity politics and the yearning for unity through shared experiences. We reflect on our responsibility in shaping the narrative for younger generations and how the inclusive narratives of the 70s have given way to a more fragmented media landscape. Join us as we converse about the richness of life's journey and the importance of fostering understanding and open dialogues across all generations, inviting listeners to engage with these cherished memories and pivotal discussions.
