The defense for Dan Campbell's play calling is that he lived by the sword, died by the sword all year. The issue is that it didn't need to be that way. If somehow play calling decisions were made to protect kicker Mike Badgley then the issue lies with GM Brad Holmes. It's irresponsible to enter the playoffs with that big of a liability. The reigning MVP put up 70 pts to pass Wilt Chamberlain as the Sixers franchise single-game scoring leader. Philly was all smiles around Embiid's accomplishment. In Minnesota, Karl-Anthony Towns single-game scoring record was not met with the same excitement. The Timberwolves lost 128-125 to the Hornets despite KAT's 44 pts at the first half and a franchise record 62 pts to finish the game. Head Coach Chris Finch ripped his team for becoming preoccupied with Town's quest to put up points. The trade deadline is just over 2 weeks away and another early trade was executed this morning. The Miami Heat received Terry Rozier from the Hornets; In return the Hornets received Kyle Lowry and a lottery-protected 2027 first-round pick.
Kevin Durant drops 40 as the Suns beat the Pacers for their 5th straight win. The Clippers have moved past their early season struggles. They sit just 2.5 games out of first place in the West. Kaz is not ready to anoint them the best in the West, but they will be a tough out in the playoffs. It took until the 21st home game of the season but the Celtics have finally lost at TD Garden. Their home winning streak of 27 straight wins dating back to last season was snapped by the reigning champion Denver Nuggets.
Alright, its time to move past the Jalen Brunson is an All-Star talk and start the Brunson for MVP conversation. You can call it east coast bias or New York media, but the numbers make a case. It's time to redefine what it means to be an MVP and Brunson's importance to the Knicks is up there with any star player. Anthony Edwards took over in the second half with 26 pts in a 118-103 victory over the Grizzles. The T-Wolves are 30-11 and sit alone at the top of the Western Conference.

Thursday was a bloodbath in the NBA. The Thunder destroyed the Trail Blazers by 62 and the Celtics pulled their starters early in an embarrassing 135-102 loss to the Bucks. Injuries have shaken up the battle for MVP, Joel Embiid is expected to miss more time which may disqualify him from MVP consideration. The Celtics continued their home dominance with a win over over the Timberwolves in OT last night. Boston has yet to lose on home court this season. The Warriors have struggled all season and find themselves 3 games under .500. The writing is on the wall for the end of the Warriors dynasty. Erik Spoelstra has landed an 8 year, $120 million extension with the Miami Heat. It's the biggest contract for a coach in terms of total salary in NBA history.
The Knicks have been on fire since their trade with the Toronto Raptors bringing in OG Anunoby, Precious Achiuwa and Malachi Flynn. To start 2024, the Knicks have won 4 straight games. OG Anunoby's impact has been felt on both sides of the ball. The Knicks are just one more trade away from being a true threat to challenge the Celtics and Bucks. Draymond Green is in the midst of indefinite suspension in which NBA Commissioner Adam Silver had to talk the Warriors forward out of retirement. The Pistons got so close to ending their NBA record 27 game losing streak against the Celtics. Up by as many as 21 pts the Pistions couldn't hold off Boston and eventually fell in OT. Detriot will have one more chance to end the losing streak against the Raptors before the end of the year. Nikola Jokic put up his third career perfect-shooting triple-double, tying Wilt Chamberlain for the most in NBA history. Behind Anthony Edwards season high 44 pts the Timberwolves beat the Mavs without Luka.
Jalen Williams and SGA each dropped 36 in the Thunder's 129-120 win over the Knicks. The Cavs were down Mitchell, Garland and Mobley but still took down the Mavs 114-110. The impressive victory propels them into the 6th spot ahead of the Knicks. The Sixers had entered Wednesday's matchup with the Magic 0-4 without Embiid on the court. Tyrese Maxey was able to lead the Sixers to their first victory without the reigning MVP.
Jalen Brunson finally led the Knicks past the Bucks on Christmas day. The Knicks had been 0-9 against Milwaukee. Brunson led the way with 38 pts in the 129-122 win. The conversation has moved past Brunson just being an All Star, is it crazy to say that he's a top 10 player in the league? Luka Doncic is at it again, dropping 50 pts on Christmas Day against the Suns. Adding even more pain to phoenix, are the reports that KD is unhappy. The slow start has the Suns a game under .500 and out of a playoff position. Capping off an OT victory Ja Morant celebrated a dunk. Was he just dancing or does the celebration look similar to his online antics?
Ja Morant returned to Memphis for his first home game since returning from his 25 game suspension. Morant had 20 pts in the Grizzles 103-116 win over the Pacers. Somehow Joel Embiid has found a way to get even better. On Wednesday, Embiid dropped 50 pts for the second time this season. It's looking like no one can stop him on the court or from getting his second straight MVP. The Pistons have now lost 25 straight games and chants of "Sell the team" have rained down from the disgruntled home fans. Is there any hope in sight for Detroit?

The Knicks beat the Suns 139-122, however on the second night of the back-to-back their defensive woes caught up. The Clippers put up 144 and beat the Knicks. Extending their winning streak to 7 games. Joel Embiid may be setting himself up for another MVP title. He currently has more points (752) than minutes played (746). On top of that he's set a franchise record 11 straight games with +30 points.
James Harden put up 28 points last night in the Clippers 121-113 win over the Warriors. Harden became the 24th player in NBA history to reach the 25,000 point milestone. The hottest team in the NBA has now pushed their win streak to 6 games. Following the loss to the Clippers, Warriors Head Coach Steve Kerr acknowledged all the issues with suspended forward Draymond Green. Saying it's not about the number of games in his indefinite suspension but making sure Green gets the help to change. Former Kentucky guards Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and De’Aaron Fox each put up +40 points in a dual between two young stars. Fox and SGA have become leaders of their respective teams with Fox getting the upper hand on Thursday night. The Kings defeated the Thunder 128-123 in a fantastic regular season matchup.
A scuffle in Milwaukee between the Bucks and Pacers had the internet buzzin last night. The argument started when Giannis went looking for the game ball to celebrate his franchise record 64 pt. game. However, the Pacers had already taken the ball for rookie Oscar Tshiebwe’s first NBA point. So was it a misunderstanding or is there evidence the Pacers are practicing extreme gamesmanship. Draymond Green has been suspended once again following his third ejection of the year. The team seems fed up with his antics and it could spell disaster for ability to keep the dynasty core together. The Suns big 3 are finally getting on the court together (Beal, Booker, Durant) but it didn't guarantee a win. As the suns fell to the Nets 116-112. But, just being on the court together is something at this point.

The Pistons lost their 20th straight game last night and Kaz's message to the fans is "just order the wings" Wingstop offers free wings following a Pistons win and at this point it's not looking good.
LeBron had one of the more eventful weekends in sports, other than maybe Ohtani. LeBron and the Lakers claimed the first NBA Cup, LeBron was named the in-season MVP and then went to watch his son Bronny make his NCAA debut. Chet Holmgren made everyone aware that the Thunder had a good weekend, defeating the Warriors once again. Holmgren took to instagram to revive the old Thunder meme "Mom Made Pizza Rolls". Many around the NBA are starting to question Zion Williamson's conditioning after his slow start to the season.
Once again LeBron James is in the finals, this time the NBA's inaugural in-season tournament finale. LeBron's 30 points, 8 assists and 3 deep three's all in just 3 quarters easily pushed the Lakers past the Pelicans. The Lakers will faceoff against the Pacers and Tyrese Haliburton on Sunday. Haliburton has gone from "maybe he's a superstar" to "is he an MVP candidate?". Sunday's showdown for the NBA Cup is set up to be a good a finish. The Prop Queen is watching Steph Curry tonight with revenge on his mind after SGA posted clips of him getting the best of Curry in their last matchup.
