Being the “quiet type” comes with certain quirks like thinking thoroughly, empathizing, and going with the flow. In what can feel like an extrovert’s world, these particular qualities don’t always feel like strengths. So how’s an introvert to get ahead? A podcast is a lot like starting a business. It can be a scary plunge, but it can also be rewarding. Like most business ventures, things can go well. Talent can come naturally, the work feels easy, growth just sort of… happens. What do we do when things don’t work out? What happens when our business flops, gets difficult, or just fails to grow?Today, I’ll be talking about the Growth Mindset. Maybe you’ve heard it as a vague productivity buzzword, but when applied to podcasting it’s an indispensable tool. What exactly is it, and how does it help with podcasting? Tune in for answers and 4 lessons that will give you a head start on your own podcast!Topics Covered:Growth Mindset vs. Fixed MindsetHow to dissect and reframe failureWhy you should make the most of your journeyTips for growing a communityPodcasting With Impact Facebook CommunityBook a call with Maddy for podcast support
“Everybody has something to teach, and something to learn” Broadcasting your truth into the world is straight-up scary. This fear is an obstacle for many would-be podcasters, and can slow you down if you don’t want to say “the wrong thing.” Understandable! Sometimes we have a hot take or a spicy opinion, and we feel like we should keep it to ourselves. Ultimately, this isn’t productive and actually hurts discourse. So how can a podcaster overcome that fear of screwing up?Today, I’m grateful to host our first guest: Karen O’Connor! Karen is an international bestseller with an impressive resume, including certifications in public speaking, NLP, and coaching. She’s here to chat with me about confidence and speaking authentically. By the end of this episode, you’ll be on your way to a more confident message!Topics Covered:“Like,” “uh,” and other filler wordsWhy do we water down our opinions for others?Tips for public speaking and concentrationHow to power through self-doubtContact Karen:Book a 15 minute confidence booster session with KarenEmail Website Facebook InstagramYoutubeConnect with Maddy:Podcasting With Impact Facebook CommunityBook a call with Maddy for podcast support
Networking–It’s an important part of growing any type of platform or business, but one of the biggest complaints I hear is that it’s disingenuous. There’s some truth to that. All of these interactions have an undercurrent of business. Forced chit-chat that often goes nowhere can get exhausting, especially for introverts. It can leave many people feeling burned out and discouraged. As an introvert myself, I’m happy to tell you that it doesn’t have to be this way!In today’s episode, I’ll share some strategies for grabbing an audience that stays engaged and interested in your content. Beyond that, growing a community is one of the most rewarding parts of the business! By the end of this episode, I’ll show you how building relationships like this can create new opportunities and connections you never thought were possible.Topics Covered:Strategies for involving an audienceWho is your ideal listener, and why should you know?Showing your community that they are valuedConnecting with other podcastersPodcasting With Impact Facebook CommunityBook a call with Maddy for podcast support
Vulnerability is a common hangup in podcasting. How much of that crazy anecdote is appropriate to share? What will the listeners think of you? Should you be embarrassed? This fear of judgment can create a wall between a podcaster and the audience which can ultimately hurt the relationship and compromise the quality of the podcast itself. In this episode, I’m exploring that feeling of self-consciousness and how to deal with it as a podcaster. Everyone is different, so there’s not really a quick fix that works across the board. However, on my own journey I’ve found success with some small changes and habits. My hope is that some of my examples will resonate with you and help you open up to be the best podcaster you can be!Topics discussed:Reflecting on self-trustHow do we embrace the cringe?Audience perspectives on vulnerabilityHelpful journal promptsEstablishing a unique voicePodcasting With Impact Facebook CommunityBook a call with Maddy for podcast support
Planning is everything in podcasting. The more concrete details you plot for your project, the better. So, where to start? Some things are intuitive, like keeping a regular upload schedule. However, it’s equally important to have a contingency plan, like a stockpile of “emergency” episodes. But how do we know our plans are working? How do we measure success?Today, I’ll be discussing the 1,000 download milestone. For a beginning podcast, 500 -1,000 is a landmark number of downloads. Hitting these numbers indicate that a podcast is cultivating an audience who values the content. I’ll lay out my own plan to reach this number with you, and how to restructure if that goal can’t be met. While one size does not fit all, my hope is that you’ll be able to take away some actionable tips and tricks for yourself!Topics Covered:Scheduling your podcast to accommodate lifeThe power of 15 minutes a dayWhere do future listeners come from? What is thinking small, what does it look like, how does it help?Where do we go from 1,000 listeners?Podcasting With Impact Facebook CommunityBook a call with Maddy for podcast support
