We're joined once again by Jon Cross from the PM Entertainment Podcast and the After Movie Diner to discuss a Sam Firstenberg erotic thriller double feature, "Criss Cross" and "Motel Blue." Before we get in on the first film, Jon tells us about "Countdown" with Carol Vorderman, and I connect it with an 80s video from the band Survivor. And then with "Criss Cross," we try to make sense of these two episodes of "Tropical Heat" aka "Sweating Bullets" mashed together with some toplessness thrown in. After a break, we chat about Grasshopper Junction, AZ, a fascinating stop on the way to the Grand Canyon, before we get stuck in on "Motel Blue," an erotic thriller starring Soleil Moon Frye and Sean Young. You can find the PM Entertainment Podcast and After Movie Diner on all major podcatchers, and on YouTube. And if you're in the New Milton, CT area, check out his VHS and DVD store, Be Kind Movie Vault! Our theme song is done by Jon Cross's Miscellaneous Plumbing Fixtures, which you can listen to on Spotify, or go here for his Bandcamp https://miscplumbingfixtures.bandcamp.com/Check out my newest book, Nadia and Aidan, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DPKXRP16For my author page on Amazon, go here: https://www.amazon.com/stores/Matthew-Poirier/author/B085HTVYNJAnd you can grab our DTVC merch at our Threadless, https://dtvconnoisseur.threadless.com
DTVC Extra 49, MCU Phase 4

DTVC Extra 49, MCU Phase 4

"DTVC Extra" are shorter solo episodes that I'll be posting on some weeks in addition to the main podcast. In this episode I'm looking at Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 4. In the first part I look at the successes of the Infinity Saga, and how Disney wanted Kevin Feige to "Feed the Monster" post pandemic, especially with the launch of Disney+. While there are still successes in the early part of Phase 4, there are also signs of what was to come in Phase 5. In the second part, I look at 2022 for Phase 4, and how we could see things turning a bit more, and how "feeding the monster" was starting to see lesser results. From there I talk about the current movie environment. Is the lack of success of comic book movies a sign of "comic book fatigue," or do people just want more variety? And what does that variety look like? For Miscellaneous Plumbing Fixtures, you can listen on Spotify, or go here for his Bandcamp https://miscplumbingfixtures.bandcamp.com/My newest book, Nadia and Aidan, is available here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DPKXRP16Check out Bainbridge, my short action novel about a cop on the edge in early 90s LA: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CH7V3SK5For my author website, go here: https://www.matthewpoirierauthor.com/And you can grab our DTVC merch at our Threadless, https://dtvconnoisseur.threadless.com
"DTVC Extra" are shorter solo episodes that I'll be posting on some weeks in addition to the main podcast. In this episode I'm looking at Fox's Mutant Movies. In the first part I do some background on the X-Men comics, then get into the lead-up to the first film, the two after it, and the debacle that was X-Men Origins: Wolverine. In the second part, we get stuck in on the films they made after that that were released before Disney bought 20th Century Fox, where they had some real hits, where they had misses, and what contributed to each. Finally, I look at the final two Fox X-films that were released after the purchase, plus the legacy of the films, "Deadpool and Wolverine," and my ideas on how Disney should've been integrating the X-characters all along--but before that, I do a mea culpa on a couple things I said about Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3 before I'd seen it.For Miscellaneous Plumbing Fixtures, you can listen on Spotify, or go here for his Bandcamp https://miscplumbingfixtures.bandcamp.com/My newest book, Nadia and Aidan, is available here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DPKXRP16Check out Bainbridge, my short action novel about a cop on the edge in early 90s LA: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CH7V3SK5For my author website, go here: https://www.matthewpoirierauthor.com/And you can grab our DTVC merch at our Threadless, https://dtvconnoisseur.threadless.com

"DTVC Extra" are shorter solo episodes that I'll be posting on some weeks in addition to the main podcast. In this episode I look at Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the first segment, before I look at the first six films in the phase, I look at the intervening year or so between "Ant-Man" and "Captain America: Civil War" and some of the important moments in comic book movies. I also get into what my thoughts were on the MCU at that time. Then with the six films, I look at the ones I liked best, and what made all of them work. With the second segment, I look at the two Avengers films and the impact they had on comic book movies as a whole, including the two MCU films that come out between them. Finally, I wrap by looking at the overall legacy of the MCU Infinity Saga.

In this special episode I look at the Blade franchise with "Blade," "Blade II," and "Blade: Trinity." With the second film, we look at how Snipes keeps the ball rolling, and how del Toro as director gave the film an extra gear. Finally, with the third film, we look at why it was such a big miss, but then the overall legacy of the franchise, and where it could go next.
