We all live a spiritual life, manifested in the material world. Jesus came to reclaim fallen humanity, and to offer us a life of overcoming the things which have long held us in bondage. The question is, what does this overcoming life look like, and how do we acquire it, today?

Tim Keller wrote, “Friendship is a deep oneness that develops when two people, speaking the truth in love to one another, journey together to the same horizon.” Yet, as wonderful and needful as that sounds, how many really struggle to find, cultivate, and maintain that kind of genuine friendship? In this episode we talk the Biblical model, particularly as seen between Jesus and Peter, and we hope to encourage you to pursue genuine friendships with those God would knit your soul together with. The Way of Holiness is not a solo journey!

Thoreau wrote that "the mass of men live lives of quiet desperation." So, among the redeemed where is the joy?Joy, in the believer, cannot be lost, because, like Love, true Joy is in the person of Jesus Christ, he owns it, he alone is the source, and the keeper. Joy can be misplaced, abandoned, seemingly lost, but it is there, we just need to find the way back to it, and that way is in Jesus. This week we discuss:1. How joy becomes displaced in our lives.2. Joy is more than an emotion; it is a condition of the soul.3. How does hope in Jesus secure joy?4. Joy is fiercely opposed, and it must be fiercely fought for!

How do you resist a chemical attack? You've got to clear the air. So long as the agent remains airborne, you will be in danger of being taken out by the effects of the chemical. One of the greatest counters to Satan's arsenal is confession. Calling out what is inside of us (our thoughts, feelings, perceptions, and errors,) will allow room for the clarity and healing work of the Spirit within us. The question is - are we willing to take the hard look inside, and deal with what lies within?
Phosgene was a colorless, chemically reactive, highly toxic gas used in World War 1, and was reported to be responsible for 80 percent of all the chemically caused deaths in the war. What made it lethal? It caused severe damage to the lings, literally taking the breath away! The comparison to the warfare of our heart is this - Satan tries to disconnect us from the breath of the Spirit of God in our lives. If he can succeed in taking our breath away, we will simply operate from our flesh, which leads to the life of offense, blame, and accusation, ultimately rendering the Church ineffective and powerless. We must fight back!
The phrase "fog of war" feels a little outdated. Not that it is irrelevant (for it is certainly still something to contend with,) but it seems the current strife of disorientation, fragmentation, and frustration being felt, exchanged, and blamed toward one another, are coming from something far more like a chemical warfare attack. There is a toxic gas in the air, and it is doing crazy stuff to our souls!Today, we discuss the effects of this method of attack on our souls, and how we are to safeguard our hearts to resist the effects on our lives!
The key to staying strong in the warfare of the heart is remaining in the refuge of God. We can choose to live our lives outside of the safety of the refuge, but when we do, we succumb to the lies and accusations of the enemy, and turn our attention to defending ourselves against the offenses of others, and engaging in attacking the wrong enemy! It is why our heart must remain centered on God. Dwelling in the shelter of His presence will give us the perspective we need to wage the war as it should be fought!
One of the great tactics of the enemy is denial of the existence of spiritual warfare. For many of our problems, the conclusion we seem to draw is, "What is wrong with me? Why am I the way that I am? Why can't I fix this?" The blessing of having the context of spiritual warfare is that, all of a sudden, the problem isn't just us! But rest assured, the enemy wants to keep your heart in the fog. Denial of the reality of warfare will keep your heart captive, and rob us of the joy that comes from the life lived liberated by Christ!
