Welcome back to Edu with you, teacher podcast. We have educator, Kristie Hernandez who zoomed in with host, Michael Garcia to discuss her path to the classroom, experiences, teacher burnout, and gap years. Teacher burnout has continued to be one of the most common reasons teachers leave the profession. Teacher burnout has been described as "an extreme form of chronic stress that can affect any teacher, regardless of how experienced or passionate they are about their jobs. One quarter of all teachers view their jobs as extremely stressful, and 46 percent report high stress daily during the school year. This places teaching alongside nursing as one of the most high-stress occupations in the country."Kristie shares her desire to enter into the teaching profession and some of her highs and lows of her first three years in the classroom as a middle school English teacher, middle school science teacher, and a 3rd grade. Although being extremely happy and proud to be a teacher, Kristie shares various stories that led were consistent with common signs of teacher burnout such as:Emotional and physical exhaustionDepersonalizationLow self-esteem and moraleAnger, frustration, or sadnessJob dissatisfactionTeaching is such a rewarding profession but it seems like so many educators can share stories and similar moments of high stress and pressure. This episode is not meant to be an anecdote or solution as much as a fellow educator who wants us all to know we are not alone. Kristie additionally goes on to share her experiences taking a "gap year." By borrowing the concept that is traditionally used after college/university, Kristie was able to use the year to decompress, study, work, travel, and much more. Listen to this fascinating story by an educator who just wants to be in the classroom teaching. We appreciate Kristie's mindset on the topic and we hope you enjoy this awesome conversation as well.Kristie's InstagramEdu with you, always for you!Buzzsprout - Let's get your podcast launched! Welcome to episode #30 with Elementary Teacher, Valerie Sanchez. This high energy 10 year veteran educator sets high expectations for herself and her students and it shows. From the Imperial Valley, California, Valerie sits with host, Michael Garcia to describe her career and share her unique path to the classroom. We discuss Mrs. Sanchez and her covid experience as a 2nd grade teacher. Our grade levels will always reveal their own individual challenges and this was an eye opening discussion to be able to converse about the struggles in a primary classroom. Prioritizing standards, teaching students and parents about edtech, and lots of prep seems to be the formula. Even with a mountain of work, Valerie seems to find fun and engaging strategies to always keep her students positive and with their eye on the prize, but never getting too caught up to celebrate the tiniest of victories. Valerie's support system at home is her family and the teamwork of her and her husband gives Valerie the space and confidence to lead in and outside of the classroom. Stick around till the end of the episode to hear Valerie's Edu with you message that is positive and uplifting but the call to action is positive and challenging. Thank you for listening and a special thanks to Mrs. Valerie Sanchez for a great conversation and insight!Edu with you, always for you!🎙🍎🎧Support the show (https://www.paypal.com/biz/fund?id=XXLL2FG9XPBTG)
