What is the Dialogic Teaching Method? Dialogic teaching emphasizes dialogue and discussion to promote critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving in a student-centered classroom. This method includes creating a dialogue-conducive environment, posing open-ended questions, engaging in respectful debate, and constructing new knowledge through facilitated discussion. It's effective for all ages and subjects, and it develops social skills, student voice, and identity. Jamie Keddie is a master of dialogic storytelling, using authentic materials to engage students and facilitate language learning.

What is the Lexical Approach Teaching Method? The Lexical Approach is a language teaching method that prioritizes multi-word lexical phrases over individual words and grammar rules. It aims to develop learners' ability to recognize and use these phrases for natural, fluent speech and communicative competence. It emphasizes practical language skills and is seen as an alternative to traditional grammar-based methods. Michael Lewis developed this approach in the 1990s.

What is Learning by Teaching (German: Lernen durch Lehren)? Lernen durch Lehren (Learning by Teaching) is a teaching method that involves students in the process of teaching a subject to others. The approach is based on the idea that the act of teaching promotes deeper understanding and retention of knowledge. In a Lernen durch Lehren setting, students are assigned the task of presenting and teaching a portion of the course material to their peers. This can take the form of group presentations, individual mini-lessons, or other forms of peer instruction. By assuming the role of the teacher, students are encouraged to take an active role in their own learning and to engage in reflection and critical thinking. The method is used across a range of subjects and has been shown to be effective in promoting student motivation, engagement, and achievement. Developed by Jean-Pol Martin in the 1980s, the LDL approach similar to the protégé effect. We breakdown this innovative classroom technique (lernen durch lehren anleitung für schüler). #LernendurchLehren #LearningByTeachingMethod #LearningByTeachingApproach

We look at 5 steps to give clearer classroom instructions proposed by Jim Scrivener in his book 'Learning Teaching'. In language classes teachers have to give instructions for activities in a new language even though their learners may not have a very good command of the language. This means that teachers need to use classroom language which is natural but clear, simple and familiar to learners so that they can understand what to do.

What is the Engage Study Activate teaching method? The Engage Study Activate (ESA) teaching method emphasizes active learning in a meaningful context. This method is based on the idea that students learn best when they are actively engaged in the learning process and when they are exposed to authentic and meaningful language use. The ESA method is often used in the Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) approach, which emphasizes the use of real-life, communicative activities in the classroom. The three stages of the ESA method are:
1) Engage: The teacher begins a lesson by engaging students through activities that activate their prior knowledge and create interest in the topic.
2). Study: Students engage in activities that allow them to study the language and grammar structures in a meaningful context.
3) Activate: Students activate their knowledge by practicing and applying what they have learned in a communicative task.
The teacher provides feedback and correction during the tasks and activities, to help students improve their language use. This student-centered method promotes authentic language use and can be adapted for different subjects and age groups.

What is the Practice Presentation Production Teaching Method? The Practice-Presentation-Production (PPP) teaching method is a method for foreign language instruction that emphasizes the gradual development of language skills through a sequence of activities. This method is based on the idea that language learning is a process that involves practice, presentation, and production. The PPP method is often used in the Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) approach, which emphasizes the use of real-life, communicative activities in the classroom. The three stages of the PPP method are: *Practice: The teacher provides opportunities for students to practice language structures and vocabulary through controlled activities such as drills, exercises, and games. *Presentation: The teacher presents new language structures and vocabulary in context, using authentic materials such as dialogues, texts, and videos. *Production: The students are encouraged to use the language they have learned in communicative activities such as role-plays, discussions, and presentations. This method focuses on the development of all language skills, such as speaking, listening, reading, and writing. The PPP method is widely used in many language classrooms as it is considered an effective approach for developing communicative competence. What does PPP mean? Check out this video to find out!

What is Communicative Language Teaching? Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) is a teaching method that emphasizes developing learners' ability to communicate effectively in the target language using authentic language in real-life situations. It focuses on holistic development of language skills such as listening, speaking, reading, and writing, with the goal of producing competent and confident communicators.
In the Teaching Methodology Exposed series, we take a look at notable language-teaching methods which have influenced us and wider education. We, as educational professionals, explain the history and rationale behind these methodologies and analyze a real class example to better weigh each method's pros and cons as an effective teaching approach.
What is The Silent Way? The Silent Way is a language teaching method developed by Caleb Gattegno in the 1970s that emphasizes learner autonomy and minimal teacher talk. The method is based on the idea that the teacher should remain "silent" as much as possible, allowing the students to discover language for themselves through visual aids and their own experimentation. This approach aims to foster self-expression and independent thinking, rather than relying on rote memorization and repetition. It also employs Cuisenaire rods for demonstration and coloured Fidel charts for pronunciation.
In the Teaching Methodology Exposed series, we take a look at notable language-teaching methods which have influenced us and wider education. We, as educational professionals, explain the history and rationale behind these methodologies and analyze a real class example to better weigh each method's pros and cons as an effective teaching approach.
What is the Suggestopedia Teaching Method? Suggestopedia is a 1970s teaching method that uses suggestion and psycho-physiology to create a relaxed and motivating environment for language learning. The method aims to help learners overcome psychological blocks and tap into their unconscious resources for learning. The teacher uses a variety of techniques, including drama, storytelling, and positive suggestion, to create an atmosphere of positive expectations and to encourage students to believe in their ability to learn the target language.
In the Teaching Methodology Exposed series, we take a look at notable language-teaching methods which have influenced us and wider education. We, as educational professionals, explain the history and rationale behind these methodologies and analyze a real class example to better weigh each method's pros and cons as an effective teaching approach.
What is Community Language Learning? Community Language Learning (CLL) is a student-centered teaching method that promotes language learning through interactive communication within a supportive community setting. Developed by Charles Curran in the 1960s, CLL emphasizes the use of the target language to encourage students to actively engage in the learning process. The teacher acts as a facilitator, providing feedback and helping students express themselves in the target language. CLL helps students develop communicative competence and is effective for adult learners who are motivated to use the target language in their everyday lives.
In the Teaching Methodology Exposed series, we take a look at notable language-teaching methods which have influenced us and wider education. We, as educational professionals, explain the history and rationale behind these methodologies and analyze a real class example to better weigh each method's pros and cons as an effective teaching approach.
What is the total physical response method? Total Physical Response (TPR) is a language teaching method that uses physical movement and gestures to facilitate language learning. It involves the teacher giving commands in the target language, and students responding with physical actions. This method gradually introduces new vocabulary and grammar structures, and focuses on the development of listening and speaking skills. TPR is effective for young learners and beginners, and is often used as a support method in the classroom.
In the Teaching Methodology Exposed series, we take a look at notable language-teaching methods which have influenced us and wider education. We, as educational professionals, explain the history and rationale behind these methodologies and analyze a real class example to better weigh each method's pros and cons as an effective teaching approach.
What is the Audio Lingual Method (ALM)? The Audio-Lingual Method, also known as the Army Method or New Key, is a teaching method for foreign languages that emphasizes the use of repetitive drills and patterns to teach language skills. This method is based on the idea that language learning is similar to habit formation, and that language can be acquired through repetition and practice. The focus of the method is on the development of listening and speaking skills, rather than reading and writing, and it is typically used to teach practical, everyday language.
In the Teaching Methodology Exposed series, we take a look at notable language-teaching methods which have influenced us and wider education. We, as educational professionals, explain the history and rationale behind these methodologies and analyze a real class example to better weigh each method's pros and cons as an effective teaching approach.
What is the Direct Method? The Direct Method, also known as the Natural Method, is a teaching method for foreign languages that emphasizes the use of the target language as the primary means of instruction. This method is based on the idea that language is best learned through direct and natural exposure to the language in use, rather than through translation or analysis of grammar rules. The Direct Method emphasizes spoken language and the use of real-life situations and materials in the classroom. The teacher uses only the target language in the classroom, avoiding the use of the student's native language. The focus of the method is on the development of speaking and listening skills, rather than reading and writing skills.
In the Teaching Methodology Exposed series, we take a look at notable language-teaching methods which have influenced us and wider education. We, as educational professionals, explain the history and rationale behind these methodologies and analyze a real class example to better weigh each method's pros and cons as an effective teaching approach.
What is the Grammar-Translation Method? It is a traditional approach to teaching foreign languages that emphasizes the translation of texts from the target language into a student's native language. Historically, this method has been used to teach classical languages like Latin and Greek, but it is also used to teach modern languages, especially in academic settings. As part of a GTM curriculum, students typically study a textbook, memorize grammar rules, learn vocabulary, and complete translation exercises focused on developing reading and writing skills.

We, as educational professionals, explain the history and rationale behind these methodologies and analyze a real class example to better weigh each method's pros and cons as an effective teaching approach.
What is DOGME? DOGME is teacher-driven method that focuses on allowing teachers to have more autonomy and creativity in their teaching practices. It prioritizes student-centred, authentic learning experiences over a pre-determined curriculum and emphasizes a supportive classroom environment. It has its roots in an article by the language education author, Scott Thornbury.

How to be a teacher everyone remembers? You teach like Michel Thomas!
Michel Thomas was a polyglot language teacher, author, and Holocaust survivor. He was born in Poland in 1914 and grew up in Germany. He fled to France before the outbreak of World War II, and was later arrested by the Nazis and sent to a series of concentration camps. After the war, he moved to the United States, where he began teaching languages.
Michel Thomas developed his own method of language teaching, which is based on the idea that students can learn a new language quickly and efficiently by breaking it down into its component parts and building it up again. He emphasized on the use of repetition and association to help students learn quickly and effectively. He believed that traditional grammar-based language instruction was ineffective, and that students should learn a language by listening and speaking it, rather than by analyzing and memorizing grammar rules.
Michel Thomas's language teaching method is widely known and popular. He recorded a series of audio courses, which have been used by millions of students worldwide. He also wrote several books on his method of language teaching. He passed away in 2005, but his method continues to be used and praised by many language learners and teachers.
We award @MichelThomasMethod_Official with the best teacher prize of being a 'Master Teacher' for the inspiration and motivation he brought to educating. https://www.michelthomas.com/#MichelThomas #MichelThomasMethod #MichelThomasTheLanguageMaster
