@DBPardes | A swell from the swells

Click here to reply to @DBPardes "I wish there was a scratch and sniff. I'll take a photo for you if I could turn around and do it. Yeah, let me do this now. I'll do it while I'm talking because that's the cool thing about swell. You can use the camera while you're talking. So use camera. Gonna do a little pull in there. Whoops. Okay, I think I got it. Yeah. Use photo. And that's a pelican talking."

@DBPardes | The great Northwest

Click here to reply to @DBPardes "And I've always wanted to do a kayaking week where I just kind of hopped in a boat and kayak different places and had a sort of a base camp. But in this situation I was, I got the best of both worlds because I rented a home through Airbnb that was literally on the water, that had two kayaks. But also we were able to go into the Olympic Forest and do some hiking as well. So the trip was both hiking and water and everything in between."

EMT in Training #HUMANSdbp Click here to reply to @DBPardes "So do you think you'll go into the specialty of it pretty soon after you get your training and your certification? That's the goal. I think becoming a dive safety officer takes a little bit more time and experience, because usually you're working with, like, universities or, like, major organizations where you're, like, responsible for managing and organizing a group of divers."

@DBPardes | Watching a caterpillar 🐛 transform

Yes, it’s a crazy metaphor for life Click here to reply to @DBPardes "In the case of really being witness to what this egg becomes, you can actually take that leaf off and put it in a container that has a lot of moisture with a bunch of other leaves, leaves of the same kind, and you can watch that egg become a very small caterpillar. And then that caterpillar grows and grows over a week period, maybe 10 days maximum, and it's ready to change. And then when it changes, it hangs on this little thread and becomes a cocoon."

@DBPardes | Is there a question that you love to answer when asked? Feel free to answer it here as well. :-)

Click here to reply to @DBPardes "It's more like something that sort of sparks their personality or a part of them that they're really happy about. So I want to answer this also because there's a question I get a lot about why did I move to LA? I've been here now, gosh, I guess 15 years, and people ask me, why did you move to la? And isn't it crazy? They ask? They always followed up with, isn't it so much traffic? And blah, blah."

@DBPardes | In Memorium: Bill Moyers

Link : https://s.swell.life/O1Upj4o0tvdEImB Click here to reply to @DBPardes "A great journalist died last week, Bill Moyers. And I wanted to just reflect on his life and what he meant to me growing up and what he meant to me as somebody who was so committed to media literacy. In fact, I'm going to share a link to an extraordinary media literacy website run by one of my mentors and heroes in media literacy, Renee Hobbs. But I wanted to specifically share this link because it's all about grandparents of media literacy."

Click here to reply to @DBPardes "I am sitting in Baltimore right now waiting for my nephew and his wife to come with their kids, two little girls, my great nieces. And I've been up a lot thinking about the news of the war in Iran and the wars around the world and the funding of lots of terrorist groups around the world that have been a part of our reality ever since I can remember."

@DBPardes | If we all get washed by the rain

Together…. Click here to reply to @DBPardes "I want you to hear something. Just listen. I'm standing outside and it's just in the middle of a big thunderstorm. But there's a break here in Baltimore, Maryland and you still hear the raindrops dancing on the leaves. But just a minute ago there was a huge clap of thunder which we never hear on the West Coast. It's just so beautiful. It makes me want to go outside and become my 3 year old self and jump in the puddles."

@DBPardes | Micro adjustments in conversation, in life

Click here to reply to @DBPardes "I imagine a bird does it too, when they're flying, like these little shifts in the wind. But to talk about it as a skill and as something we're aware of and something we could celebrate, I think is. Is particularly moving to me. And that conversation I had today really made me realize how much we do things in terms of accommodating, but not in a bad way."

@DBPardes | NEWS / powerful letter signed against misinformation that’s causing more loss of life

Link to Deadline article and letter : https://s.swell.life/O1Un5nyM5e8IWov Click here to reply to @DBPardes "We call on all our colleagues to reject this extremist rhetoric and the spread of misinformation so that we can all work towards a future in which all Israelis and Palestinians can live side by side in peace and dignity. I want to make an observation here that this letter does not talk about the politics of the war itself. It does not say that, that we support the war, that the war will or will not stop if hostages are released. There's been over 600 days when they've tried so much."

I would love to hear any thoughts you have about this. Please hit reply in the episode notes. @JasonSchonMD | Health and wellness

#sportsmedicine #prevention Click here to reply to @JasonSchonMD "And the ability to even just walk without pain, to sleep well, to enjoy life outside of work, to play with our kids, to be fully present with the people we love is really the most important. That's everything. That's everything to me. And when people get sick, especially from something preventable, it has a huge ripple effect, not just on the individual, but it. It affects families, it affects work, it affects communities. So I just wonder about this a lot."

@DBPardes | Death, Love, and Lady Bugs

Click here to reply to @DBPardes "So there's a lot. There's a lot of gratitude for things that happen quickly in some ways. But this conversation, we're sort of talking about this profound cycle of life that we are always trying to navigate. In times when we're confronted with it, sometimes we don't have to talk about it because we don't think it's part of our everyday existence."

@DBPardes | WHY TALKING IS SO POWERFUL FOR OUR PSYCHES

Click here to reply to @DBPardes "There's a level of I am breathing in air, I'm pushing out words, I'm smiling, I'm thinking as I talk, and it's a very alive state. When I write emails, I'm much more in my head. I'm not expressing as deeply in email because I'm thinking so hard about every single word, even though I have a tendency to flow pretty well."

@DBPardes | Trump’s Health: Our illness - the war on drugs is not what you think

Link : https://s.swell.life/O1UlBV8Qn7OXkzx Click here to reply to @DBPardes "To the contrary, the very institutions that can help save our lives and the lives of ones we love are not functioning very well. Specifically the fda, which really protects us from a daily mishap. Instances of E. Coli are arising in this country because the FDA is not able to look at all the reports coming in that they need to check out, particularly in this case, the safety of lettuce. Over 58."

https://s.swell.life/O1UjtfuNnXnYrPM Click here to reply to @DBPardes "About how you know the news is reading you while you're reading the news, and what we can do about getting out of the cycle of biased news and getting into the conversation we can have with each other about what's important to us."

@DBPardes | Yom Hashoah Holocaust Memorial Day

Link to museum : https://s.swell.life/O1UjIYyZrv2beC5 Click here to reply to @DBPardes "So when I think about using the word Jews, I think about myself as a member of a people who were systematically murdered during a time when the world watched and did nothing until it was too late. But the link that I'm sharing to the Holocaust Museum of the US Has a database and I just type in the word pardes and 240 names come up with the last name of Pardes. That's my father's father's name. And I do it to just look at those names."

@DBPardes | 9100 books moved by 300 People ❤️❤️

Link : https://s.swell.life/O1UieXl4hcR8wvd Click here to reply to @DBPardes "So there's a small town in Michigan, and it's in the news because this bookstore wanted to move 9,100 books from one bookstore to the new bookstore. And 300 people created what they're calling a book brigade, where they wrapped around from the old store to the new store. They moved 9,100 books into the new shelves, the correct shelves, where they're going to be in the new store. This would have taken a moving company a much longer time."

@DBPardes | Ode to Redwoods - tree bathing Spring 2025

Link to Mendocino County: https://s.swell.life/O1UiUTTL5mfN72h Click here to reply to @DBPardes "It's called Trees by Joyce Kilmer. I think that I shall never see a poem lovely as a tree. A tree whose hungry mouth is pressed upon the earth's sweet flowering breast. A tree that looks at God all day and lifts her leafy arms to pray. A tree that may in summer wear a nest of robins in her hair upon whose bosom snow has lain, who intimately lives with rain. Poems are made by fools like me, but only God can make a tree."

@DBPardes | Swell + Authors and Publishers Convene in LA to talk about the state of writing in 2025 - Were you there?

AWP : link https://s.swell.life/O1Uh3SJAQ6kuQup Click here to reply to @DBPardes "It was really interesting to sort of walk the aisles, also be tabling to connect to people about the power of book clubs online and also the ability for organizations to use conversation to really connect and engage a large group of people, a membership group. And we're really excited about the flow we had between publishers and agents who were looking to position their authors and authors themselves who are looking to have more intimate engagement with their readers."
