Bella Canzano is a Phoenix-based Peruvian/Italian American artist skilled in singing, songwriting, and illustration. She started her digital art project Abeja Blanca in 2019 to highlight self-love and Latinx identity, and the project has since grown to encompass art activism. Last July, we talked to Bella about what drives her art and music, from the excitement people experience when they see themselves as illustrations to her motivation to make art about issues of identity in the Latinx community as she works to find her place within that community.Abeja Blanca website: https://www.abejablancaart.com/ Abeja Blanca Instagram: @abeja.blancaBella’s Instagram: @isabejitaCovid-19 Relief Grants and Resources for Artists and Musicians:Artist Relief Emergency GrantsCovid-19 Freelance Artist ResourceMore Covid-19 Emergency Resourcesʕ•ᴥ•ʔThank you to our creative collaborator, Breakthrough (@breakthroughtv), a global human rights organization driving the culture change we need to build a world in which all people live with dignity, equality, and respect. “I felt like I needed to find some kind of outlet to express this emotion so I designed a character of myself that is just bittersweet and angry that doesn’t give a f*ck … and created Koreangry.” Last July, we spoke with the creator behind Koreangry, Eunsoo Jeong (She/Her/Hers), who immigrated from South Korea to San Francisco in 2001 at age 13. After receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts through the Animation/Illustration program at San Jose State University, she headed down to Los Angeles to pursue her career in the animation industry. Eunsoo’s Koreangry is a comic that provides information on important topics such as calling out unrealistic beauty standards, harmful stereotypes surrounding the Asian community, and political issues such as zero-tolerance immigration policies and police brutality, all with dark humor and justifiable rage.
